In part 16 of the 9-week truck bed camping road trip, I've stopped at a stream that looked fishy from the road! It turned out to be INCREDIBLE! I still can't believe some of the fish I caught beside the bridge and some I've never seen before as I moved up the stream!
I started my 9 week road trip on July 31, 2022, and spent roughly 3 weeks in WY, ID and MT. Check out all the videos from this trip in the playlist linked below:

  • Excellent video!! What I've always enjoyed most about your videos is that they provide real world visuals for reading water. Seams, pockets, cushions around rocks, banks... Love it!! On this this one I especially like the close up shots of fish, too. For those out there still learning to identify the different species of trout these shots were spot on.

  • Was going over goals for the past year and writing new ones for the upcoming year. One that popped out was my need to get back to creating some adventures for myself. As a happily marred man with 2 kids, its been the typical scenario... focused on family and career (as we should) but not focused enough on doing what I need to keep my mindset right and focused...which is getting back out there like I did before kids... sleeping in the back of my truck so I could get my fly on the water at first light or be at the trailhead. As a 13 year full-time real estate agent here in far north Idaho, getting out in the summer months can certainly be tricky. But with some advance preparation, it will happen this year... especially having a wife who not only supports me getting out there, but helps me make it happen. Thanks for some inspiration.

    @theRealSteveHolly@theRealSteveHolly Жыл бұрын
    • That's the way it should be. From 2007 to 2015 I didn't fish out of my local area very often. My wife worked, our kids were young and me being the stay at home dad...it was my responsibility do all the home stuff...and I couldn't check out when my wife had days off. As they've gotten older, I'm able to travel, this is what you see on my channel. Dig what I can do now...but not a chance I'd change any of it!

  • Enjoyed the as always. The stream was just spectacular. Just a quick question: I don't recall seeing anyone resting their index finger on the rod. May I ask the reason for it?

    @schmoonkie@schmoonkie Жыл бұрын
    • Thank u. I do that when I'm using more finesse than power. Basically, I point at where I'm casting which helps with accuracy and presentation. My finger is usually more on the side, I put the tip of my finger on the hook keeper(if it has one). I believe it's a taught grip but I have no idea by who. I do a traditional grip when I'm streamer fishing or trying to generate power and distance.

      @LooknFishy@LooknFishy Жыл бұрын

    • Kokanee.

      @jimmymani@jimmymani Жыл бұрын
    • Yes Kokanee, a land locked Sockeye salmon. You would have seen them in Alaska alright. If They can make it to sea and return they’d average 5 to 8 lbs! If restricted to a life in freshwater 10” to 12” would be an average though some lakes such as Pond D’oreille in Idaho or Kootenay in BC they might bulk up to near the sea borne strains size.

    @nialllittle3820@nialllittle3820 Жыл бұрын
    • So I look for hoppers on bright warm days. I believe in dark colors on dark overcast days and light on light days. I've talked about why I choose an ant so often in part 9 of the series. But in the video. I was going with.. it's cloudy, the fish should be more aggressive...so a black ant was my starting bug. However, it was too productive and I couldn't keep the tiny rainbows off...so I switched to my top shelf hopper. Would have gone black/purple...but I didn't have that color on me. Brown/brown worked fine tho.

Most people don't expect southern Idaho to be as beautiful as it is. Silver city area is awesome all the way over to the canyon lands in eastern Oregon the owyhee river has amazing gorges and canyons. I think you would enjoy the area silver city area and the high areas of the owyhees is forested but the canyon lands and the majority of the owyhee wilderness is mostly treeless but still very very cool it's also the largest most remote area in the lower 48 states it is larger than the frank church wilderness. I just got back from the owyhees today as I am from Nampa cool stuff
