So adorable. That's exactly what you have to do when a new kitty comes home with you. Open their cage and let them come out in their own time. After a while, their curiosity makes them want to explore their surroundings.

When I got a kitten when I lived in China I brought him home in my jacket pocket. he hit the ground running when we got back to the apartment. He just ran around exploring and came straight back to me as he knew I was a refuge. I am not surprised that a kitten would stay in a box. They love boxes as they can't be attacked when they are in one - they feel secure.
That what we alway did, it take a little time and when they warm up to u they are on the back of your heels from then on.

When my boyfriend and I first adopted our calico, Kyrie, we did the same thing. We gave her space and let her explore on her own. On the second day that she was home, she became sick with the cat flu and my partner and I took turns making sure she got her medicine and watching over her to make sure it didn't get any worse. About two days after she got better, I had just finished giving her some wet food and was sitting on the couch playing the Switch and she climbed up next to me and crawled onto my chest and smooshed her face against my chin and just started purring and laid down and went to sleep on me. She did the same thing to my boyfriend not long after and that's when I knew she had accepted us as her humans.

Over the past several years, I've taken in three local stray kittens. It's amazing and wondrous how rapidly they go from "I am terrified please don't kill me" to "I am the Lord Of All I Survey. Bring me food, hu-mon servant!" Usually in 2-3 days at most. :)

My soul kitty went from depressed and shut down to "I hate everyone except you and will destroy your enemies" nearly overnight. You gotta love Siamese cats.

Trying a Kitty hammock, fluffy blanket, limiting accessible space for Kitty to explore, that’s a nice mirror and I would lay it horizontally to give Kitty broader images. Has Kitty been to vet to check for injuries and parasites and heart worms? You definitely don’t want that little sweetie infected with anything like that. Or better yet, why not just bring the Kitty to me! 🐾❤️🐾 😉 Love, Liz

Cats like to be ignored, not observed. You have to pretend to not notice them on their first day. If they want you to notice them, they let you know.
Give them their space so they can explore their environment and get accustomed to it.
A cat in a box doesn't want to leave box. That is exactly what cats do. They love to sit in boxes. The last kitten i brought home was small enough to fit in the pocket of my jacket so that is how I brought him home. It was the start of bonding.

Best way to acclimatize a kitten is to pick them up and cuddle them. Pet them and hold them, they find comfort in being “mothered”. ...also feeding them is a nice way to break the ice.
You're forgetting something. On the first day you must put their two front paws into the litter pan to show them where it is so that they understand that this is where they go to the bathroom. I've done this many many times and I've never had any problems with them pooping anywhere else.

I love the soft, gentle nursery music during the first part of this video when the kitten was adjusting to his new surroundings. But so glad to see him come out of the cat carrier and explore and claim his new home.

This is why you adopt a pair of siblings they do very well with each other not as traumatic as being separated from other cats and being alone . Give them time to get used to you and new surroundings they will come around pretty fast once they feel safe .

When my family brought my new little home it started exploring the house immediately. I was elated she found my bedroom but she chose too sleep in my mom's room at night. As a full grown kittie she slept in my Room. Before the 89 World Series Quake she was bouncing off the Wall like crazy and meowing louder than I'd ever heard cry out before. Then the house started rolling and shaking during The Quake. All throughout the night and the rest of the week we had After Shock's. She didn't bounce off the wall like with the big one but, she did hiss a lot. Mom made called the Fire Department which was insane due to the fact they were still working on the double decker Freeway (funny thing about Oakland, CA this Freeway went by two name's The Cypress & the 880 Nimitz), but they came right over because San Francisco was still smoldering in certain places after the Quake.

I remember my girls first day home 12 years ago like it was yesterday, a little ball of fluff then but now not so much!
When we first took or two kitties home from the shelter, they went wild exploring and chasing each other around the house. They weren’t bashful. A year later they are happy, healthy and loved.
I guess we have been lucky with all of our kittens, as none of them were as timid as he was... It just took a little time to understand that he was in a nice home, with people who were going to love him as long as they lived... Thank you for adopting, because you are going to give him a great life that he may not have had.
I adopted a 12 week old kitten from the shelter and he wasn't scared when he got home, he immediately began exploring. I tried to block him in my bedroom (I didn't have a door) and he immediately hoped up and over a 4 ft tall piece of plywood I had put across. I live and work in my shop and he loved exploring all the new and wild things....

Yes, love gives a shy kitten or cat time to come around. We adopted a 1 year old tom cat. He hid IN the sofa for a month. We spoke gently to him, served his every need and one day he decided he wanted to trust us. Now he loves to lie beside me. It was the longest time we ever had a cat need to adjust. Often cats immediately start to curiously sniff out their new place. This Gucci is a cutie pie. He is an adorable kiss from heaven.

First they come in and hide, then they play and are just cute, then they climb on you and go to sleep and they stay asleep purring for 4 hours and when you REALLY have to go to the bathroom they give you the stink eye and you feel so darn guilty. ;)
