    • he understands that scottish football has a lot of history, the crowds are smaller than england because the population is much smaller but scottish football has its own unique character because of the local people who lend support to their teamsbut he also makes it clear most people support either celtic or rangers in addition to their local team but some of the smaller clubs once dominated the scene in scotland and that belief in the impossible is what scottish football is based upon to slay the 2 giants is what it is all about

    • The problem is 2 fold. One is economics and the other is the lack of quality footballers. The likes of Aberdeen and dundee united aren't ever to get back to theircoverachieving days until there is a more level playing field economically ( as there was before the bowman ruling, tv money and commercialism of the game) and when Scottish youngsters are out playing football, getting quality coaching in every community. The second could be achievable but in the uk governments don't like to spend money on sport.

Other than the American way with league sponsorship divided equally and drafts on youth players with ownership of that player dependant on the development you put in. Now in the modern era obviously there's a ton of other influences (I'm Latino, in South Florida so obviously when I go to Inter Miami games all the songs are in Spanish and based on Argentine originals lol) but the motherland of American soccer is Scotland... • The only team in Scotland that opposed this ludicrous TV offer from Sky was Rangers. Every other team in the league voted in favour of it which is crazy. Scottish football is ranked as one of the top 10 leagues in Europe according to the most recent UEFA club coefficients (largely due to Rangers consistently reaching the later stages of European competitions). Scotland now has 2 Champions League teams in it but how can they compete with teams that spend almost a billions to build squads? Rangers faced a Liverpool team with a squad value of over £750m this season which is just nuts. Scotland has been condemned to become a perpetual 2 team league, with no hope of every competing again at the big table. People criticise the standard of player and lack of competition. A better TV deal means more money, more money means a better standard of player across the board, better players means better football, better performances in Europe, etc. It all has a domino effect. Scotland MUST get a better TV deal.

    @BillyMcMorran@BillyMcMorran11 ай бұрын

    • Shows Scotland needs Independence from the UK, in the UK they are fed scraps by English companies because they can. These same companies pump money into English football even English womens football and give us less than the bare minimum. Look at the BBC they pay about 200x the money for EPL highlights as they do for Scottish football highlights. How can they afford £70million per season for EPL highlights but only around £500k per season for Scottish League highlights? they buy the rights to the Scottish Cup final but do not show it on BBC in England etc meanwhile they put the English finals on Scottish BBC. Same with Sky Sports they are allowed to show like 65 games but they only show like 45, they have no interest in investing in Scottish football or promoting it but they will promote and invest in English lower League football and English womens football and English rugby etc, the English rugby deal with Sky is more than the Scottish football one even though Scottish football has more viewers and thats even with them giving Rugby less money than they used to, they used to give them £40million per season and cut it to £26million. All other small countries get more money as they have all their own national TV channels raking in the money, English companies rake in our money and then give us peanuts back.

    • @@jacksonbow2766 I’d have 3 leagues of 20 teams. 3 go up, and 3 down, every year. It’s the simplest and best format.

      @BillyMcMorran@BillyMcMorran11 ай бұрын
    • @@BillyMcMorran ok, thats one way to do it. I prefer 3 leagues of 16, then regionals. Or 16-16 then an 18 team National league with regionals behind that, 2 up 2 down and a play-off system like the English. We need to do something different in the Premiership though to allow other teams a shot at the title. I would use something similar to the Belgian style and American styles. Have a 30 game regular season, then split the league into groups of 4 for a further 6 games. Top 4 play for title and forst Euro spots. Next 4 play for remaining Euro spots. Bottom 4 to fight against the 2 relegation spots. We can even do something similar for the other leagues to keep them entertaining. We also need to open the pyramid properly. I would have 4 regional leagues at tier 4. HL, LL, East and West. All 16 teams. Have the Champions all play a mini league for 2 automatic promotion slots to National league. We also need league rules for squads changed. Maximum number of foreign players limited to 16 or 17 players. Homegrown player quotas to min of 8 and squad sizes no bigger than 27 players. I would even put youth player quotas in there. Currently even the teams in Europe have players extra for the league that are not in their European squads because of the UEFA squad rules. We also need to distribute the TV money evenly across the league. The OF cannot claim they get to keep it because of Skys preferences. Sky make that decision and it is not for the OF to milk. The proze money can also be distributed better. The focus should on bringing the other clubs up.

  • England is 10x the size of Scotland, population wise, and therefore it's understandable that their TV deals would dwarf ours. The real stark comparison is when you compare the Scottish TV deal with say Denmark or Norway for example. I think one of the big issues is that in a country like Denmark, for example, most of the TV execs negotiating the deals are Danish! They therefore have an inbuilt bias towards Danish football and value it accordingly. When it comes to Scottish football, wether it be Sky, BBC or whoever, the deals are negotiated at a UK level and the people doing the deals are generally based in London and you're dealing with people who literally don't know which one is "Dundee" and which one is "Dundee Utd". So is it any wonder that Scottish football is simply an after thought in the minds of these people. Scotland doesn't have it's own state broadcaster, we have the BBC instead. We are essentially "regional football" whereas in Denmark, Norway etc... those leagues are the national leagues and they have their own national broadcasters competing to televise those leagues. In Scotland we don't have that.

    • Agree, this is spot on. Other small countries run themselves and have interest in their own countries and their own teams, sports. In Scotland pretty much all big companies are run by England and their only interest in Scotland is making money, not promoting and advertising and investing in Scotland because they don't care about Scotland because they are English. The UK is a myth really, English people care as much about Scotland as French people care about Switzerland or Italians care about Croatia. Yet English people get to run Scotland.

In Scotland English companies give us pennies because there is no real Scottish companies. The BBC pay the equivalent of 35x the money for EPL highlights as they do Scottish Premier highlights, the BBC have the rights to the Scottish Cup final and don't put it on English BBC channels. England holds back Scottish football. It's not the case in Norway where their own people and companies have interest in their own country, in Scotland we are a backwater of England. The BBC put the English womens FA Cup final on all countries main channels but put the Scottish Cup final only on Scottish BBC.

The problem is that the powers that be in Scottish football, the SPL and the SFA, are dominated by Celtic and the new club Rangers and Scottish football is run for the benefit of those two. The SPL and the SFA only care about them and they only care about themselves. There's no interest in maximising revenue for anyone else. The rest of us are seen as feeder clubs (buy a St Mirren star, stick him on the bench and he won't score against us again).
