Using Doppler radar and eyewitness testimony, the Meteorite Men track a strewnfield down to Dugway Military Base. Military officials grant Geoff and Steve exclusive access to the dangerous ammunition testing grounds to search for peices of the fall.

  • Too bad it dropped over a restricted area, cause they probably would’ve found something. It was intact all way very close to ground. The explosion wouldn’t have vaporized it. There would’ve been at least pebble size pieces. And it was such a nice, flat and bright surface to find it too.

    • Never heard that inexpensive HD video drones like we have now didn't exist in November, 2010 when this expedition was first shown?

    • Would’ve been awesome if they had a hd fpv drone. Just zoom a search pattern in no time, from the safety and comfort of the truck. They probably are still at it, so very likely have these new tools now.

    • That has been found out only fairly recently as it erases what might be useful information about the history of the meteoroid while in space. However, for already known meteorites from their already known strewn fields, it's not that important.

  • Unexploded bombs and weapons bother these greedy meteorite hunters? Other greedy hunters night get there sooner? Well, I feel no sympathy for them. Same category as tornado hunters (just more greedy) as far as I'm concerned.

    • These are responsible "greedy meteorite hunters" who do what meteoriticists LOVE them to do and usually don't do themselves - FIND new meteorites. These guys donate samples for analysis to the professional meteoriticists they PERSONALLY know at universities. When they search on private property, they ask permission to do so and come to an agreement with the property owner about what is done with what they find and how much the property owner wants as a cut if what they find is sold. About the tornado chasers, they provide on the ground confirmation and magnitude of tornadoes only SUGGESTED on radar, some help with serious research about tornadoes, and many stop their chases to help with rescue efforts.
