Of all the historically great footballing nations - no other has managed to reach the World Cup final as many times as the Netherlands, and still fail to have ever won the World Cup. As a country that's tied for producing the most Ballon d'Or calibre players - they've fallen just a bit short of winning the coveted trophy. Let's look at a brief history of their tragic shortcomings and see if they have what it really takes to win it in the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

    • BS, Cruijff was a great player but Rinus Michels invented total football. Cruijf might have brought it to Barcelona as a manager, that only allowed Michel's proper successor Van Gaal to work undisturbed at Ajax and win the Champions League with a club that was financially tiny, beating clubs with something like 10 times the spending power.

  • As a Dutchman I still feel the struggle the Netherlands had in 2010 when they reached the finals only to lose to Spain. I was only 12 years old than. Many people in the netherlands still believe that the goal iniesta scored was offside. Even though I'm not sure about it myself. Still. I hope our country will one the world cup at least once. Also we miss individual talents to really be one of the best team. Besides this we also have a very difficult road having to beat Argentina and probably Brazil and then probably the French in the finals. It would be absolutely amazing if we can pull that of, but I don't see it happening :/

    • I don't think Iniesta was offside in 2010, but the German penalty in 1974 final was won by a clear dive, and the responsible player, Bernd Holzenbein, even admitted 20 years later that it had been a dive. So we absolutely got robbed in 1974.

For example would it be ideal if men could purchase (at low cost) harems of docile life-like forever-young sex robots? How would you respond to Muslim men who justified this by saying such robots are necessary to give men true independence, such that they are not forced to stay in relationships with women who are rude, jealous, controlling, manipulative, fat, old, or ugly? How would you respond to Muslim men who said that Muslim women need to "step up their game" such that men choose to be with them instead of a robot that is more friendly, beautiful, young, and thin? The cop out answer is to say sex robots are haram, but there are other conceivable halal alternatives that would do the same thing: flood men with cheap alternatives. Obviously such alternatives would weaken and ultimately destroy marriage because it takes away the dependence that men have on women for sex. But that is literally what giving women financial independence does; it makes them independent from men. And that's why no society or religion ever did give women that independence, except for our current dystopia.🎉For all of those who think it is ideal if Muslim women are not financially dependent on men: Would it be ideal if Muslim men were not sexually dependent on their women? We were talking if we had already beaten Germany. Also, we mostly start strong and after winning a few games we start talking about the finals, forget about the opponent and get cocky. So we lose.

    • 1978's final was the closest one, Rob Rensenbrik almost equalised when latched onto to a headed pass from René van de Kerkhof, but the shot was kept out by the boot of Ubaldo Fillol (Argentina's Goalkeeper). After Nanninga's goal, they almost won the game in the final minutes, when Rensenbrink latched onto a long ball poking a shot past Fillol due to a bad play, but the shot bounced off the post, and the match went to extra time. Then it came Kempes magic goal (The ball bounces on Jongbloed) and at that moment the Dutch were discouraged, Bertoni's goal a few minutes later is proof of this. At one point Neeskens hit a long pass that Galvan and Passarella couldn't clear properly and the ball landed in front of Johnny Rep who was quick to kick, but Fillol made the save of the tournament, jumping almost instantly to block what was the Netherlands goal.

Ferguson tried to make it work, with Scholes, Ronaldo and Giggs creating chances for him it didn't work, so he added Saha to do the centre forward's work so Van Nistelrooij could poach leaving the team unbalanced. So he had to go. Van Nistelrooij had is good years, but became far too selfish. In the Dutch national team he was always pretty poor, high maintenance, low return, mentally weak, not a team player.

  • Cruyff's Impact on Dutch football was so big that Morocco's best players:Ziyech,Amrabat and Mazrauoui were born in the Netherlands and were taught this system of Cruyff's football that they would go to the Semi-Finals this World Cup 2022

  • The Dutch have had amazing teams throughout recent years. After losing in 2010, leaving 2014 in the semi-finals, and now their extremely close game with Argentina, I think they deserve to win a World Cup.

  • Yeah I feel like the squad we had in 2014 in Rio was also very solid and close to the one we had in 2010. We had a very nice revenge match against Spain and won 5-1. But then penalties came and we had already used all our subs so Krul could not be subbed in. Maybe we could’ve made the finals but I think we would’ve lost to Germany anyways so doesn’t matter I guess.

PD: Sorry for the 1978's final, that Resenbrik hit on the post was what gave us our first star. That was bad luck as well.

  • Being a Dutch person, I think your analysis of the first final is totally correct. It is also the ONLY worldcup final we could have won. The final in Argentina, Cruijff resigned after mysterious circumstances and during the final, hundreds of armed soldiers were making sure no one felt safe. The final against Spain was a final of fear, but Spain knew the Fifa would grant them this title, just like the last title was also granted. Holland is just too small a country to win a worldcup final, it is not according to the way the Fifa sees itself maximizing value! Holland is not the only country like that, by the way.

By that logic Zidane is terrible because he headbutted a dude or Henry is the worst cause one time he pushed a ball with his hand and didn't get a red card. Typical Spain , you lose it the moment you get a bad result. 5 to 1 with ND , straight up 2 to 0 next match. And don't get me started on this world cup. • As an Argentinian I got to say they made us suffer much more than the French. During the extra time I truly thought we weren't going to win the WC. I am sure it is this WC most iconic match, there was a big controversy around what Van Gaal and some players said about us before the Match. The match itself looked lke a war, and had the most cards in a WC match. And after we won, Messi told a Weghorst who had annoyed him all thoughout the match "andá' pa' allá bobo" (Go away dummy), which has already become an iconic phrase. Fortunately Emiliano Martinez, Dibu, became a Penalty Shootout national hero. In 30 years I will tell my children about him
