Nest is located in South Estonia, Võrumaa.
A military base is close, so it is not unusal to hear motor sounds from trucks and other vehicles, sometimes even shots.
A fish farm, as well as a river, is not far, so good hunting conditions for Ospreys.
Ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) reach body heights of 50-66 cm, and wingspans of 1,27 - 1,74 m. Females are bigger than males.

Spend 1/2 a day, watching mom or dad?, teaching the kids how to fly..a Wonderful Experience of Pure Love. Imagine how I feel watching your Masterpiece. Thank you. Thank You Very Much..for now I Know, that some of those Love shots, that I Took at the Weddings back in the 80's in NYC...were Amazingly FAKE

  • Daddy there is quite the character! I’m going to name him the Bedding King! Better yet, the Baby Smash Bedding King, since every time he came in, determined to keep that nest fit, he landed his find on top of a chick! What a character! Truly, joking aside, beautiful pair, doing exactly as God developed them to; Mom laying, nurturing, feeding & teaching the young while dad is building the house, hunting & protecting mom & chicks. What a beautiful example of birds of prey! I was shocked at how well-behaved the chicks were at feeding time, being true predators. Seeing their little chick battle reminded me of the true predators at heart they are. Thank you so very much for sharing such a special time; seeing hatching to fledgling is a gift from God. ❤

  • It seemed like something happened to the mother and she was gone. Luckily the chicks were just barely old enough to survive without her but with father bringing food still. It was interestng when they did not know how to feed themselves and the fish rotted in the nest. I wonder if the father moved the rotting fish out of the nest. At the end i believe maybe a new female moved into the nest? the chicks left the nest not too early I hope because of the new female?

    • They are neither:) These birds are ospreys; they look like hawks and a bit behave like eagles, with a nearly fish-only diet, but ospreys aren't related to either species. They are beautiful and so tough, aren't they? Did you know they are migrating birds, covering thousands of miles journey?
