Snowy Owls | Why Is It The Most Skilled Arctic Predator? | Wildlife Documentary
Snowy owls live a life full of mystery up in the Arctic. Thousands of years ago, they built a community of fate with their neighbors - lemmings. About every four years, lemmings proliferate in huge numbers. This way, snowy owls have enough feed for their young. The owls lay up to eleven eggs and can successfully raise the chicks - each of them needs two to four lemmings per day. Lately, however, lemmings’ mass reproduction hasn’t been as regular in some parts of the Tundra. What will happen to them and the snowy owls? What is the ecological link here? And what will happen if one year the winter arrives way too early? The best way for many birds to adapt to the winter is to flee to the South. But lemmings can’t migrate and have to endure temperatures as low as -40°C. Meanwhile, if the winter is too cold and the snow level too high, even the perfectly adapted owls have to migrate in order to survive. A fascinating journey from the Arctic to Central Europe begins. Following the owls on this uncommon path, the viewer learns how animals adapt to the inhospitable climate conditions, what ecological restraints bear down on the northern fauna and which fantastic survival strategies the animals can develop. This unique documentary tells a fascinating and breathtaking story: as in a fairy tale, the snowy owls leave us a message from the changing Arctic.

Kudos to the camerman for not freezing 🥶 and flying along side with the owls for those beautiful shots!! Owls are soo pretty, ty!!
I believe they will bring proper and complete equipment together during this expedition
Yes. Incredible filming for all to see. Thank you for your sacrifices!
Sending lots of love for the snowy owls and the rest of the wildlife around the world. ❤🙏🏼🌎🧿
🥰🥰🥰
It's amazing how awesome this footage can be. I can't even take a proper picture of a duck from a few yards away 😅
Snowy owls are one of my favorite animals, they are so beautiful and fascinating to watch
Ah, the tale of Hedwig - the perils of raising a snowy owl post!
Awesome Video
So agree.
My boyfriend and I were walking in the woods in northern Minnesota when a snowy owl flew past us. I felt so blessed. Later, I heard that if they arrived so far south, it was because they were already starving. So sad. It has a truly huge wing span, about 6 feet. I was amazed that it could fly through the trees with such wide wings. It was perfectly silent. P.S. We had Northern Lights too.
THey go were they can find enough food to survive the winter. It's pretty simple. And is a bird not able to take care of itself, it will die!!
15:51 I can't with how funny seeing it plunge into the ground is hahahhaha
So breathtakingly amazing, awesome, endearing, & engrossing that I can't help doffing my hat to all concerned in this unrivaled, unparalleled, & almost incomparable transcendent arctic animal doc.of an outstanding proportions. Especially, those photographers certainly deserve some special attention, cause they had to spend for nights & days w/ an infinite patience in order to procure those brilliant, unmissable, & almost indelible momentous footages in remarkable close-ups one after another in the face of some adverse, austere conditions for over a period of one year. It simply exhibits to discern their single-minded determination & unwavering dedication for their professional commitment to their crafts at the level most of us could only dream of. By virtue of them all concerned in this one & only unlike any other arctic animal doc., we could enjoy, admire, & appreciate it to the core at the comfort of our cozy home. My heartfelt gratitude ,,,,(07/02/23)

I feel much flattered by your compliment, or could it be a piece of your sarcasm? I'd hope not, though. I've studied 2 other foreign languages decades ago when much younger but I find English the most complicated ( the grammar & spellings are truly a huge & nagging pain in the neck ) & yet interesting. You have a grandiose day, & stay safe & healthy wherever you reside on this planet,,,,,(03/04/24)@@steviealvaalbany2730

Very nice documentary. Love the parents feeding the babies a nice juicy lemming.
The Snowy Owl (Nyctea scandiaca) is a species of true owl native to the North Pole, it is known for having white plumage, which helps it blend in with the snow, it is known to prey on lemmings, hares, and ground squirrels, it is one of the few true owl species that is known for diurnal activity.
they've changed the latin name of the bird to bubo scandiaca. this is because newer studies show it is more closely related to the eagle owl :D
@williampuntervold5831, actually, the Bubo genus is polyphyletic, there are now officially just six extant species in the Bubo genus: the European Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo), the West Asian Eagle Owl (Bubo turcomanus), the Central Asian Eagle Owl (Bubo hemachalanus), the Chinese Eagle Owl (Bubo kiautschensis), the Siberian Eagle Owl (Bubo sibiricus), and the Blakiston's Eagle Owl (Bubo blakistoni), the snowy owl is moved back to the monotypic genus Nyctea, where its scientific name is actually now Nyctea scandiaca, in addition to many other species now belonging to three separate genera, Indobubo for six extant species: the Arabian Eagle Owl (Indobubo milesi), the Dusky Eagle Owl (Indobubo coromandus), the Forest Eagle Owl (Indobubo nipalensis), the Indian Eagle Owl (Indobubo bengalensis), the Barred Eagle Owl (Indobubo sumatranus), and the Philippine Eagle Owl (Indobubo philippensis), Afrobubo for nine extant species: the Pharaoh Eagle Owl (Afrobubo ascalaphus), the Spotted Eagle Owl (Afrobubo africanus), the Greyish Eagle Owl (Afrobubo cinerascens), the Giant Eagle Owl (Afrobubo lacteus), the Shelley's Eagle Owl (Afrobubo shelleyi), the Akun Eagle Owl (Afrobubo leucostictus), the Usambara Eagle Owl (Afrobubo vosseleri), the Fraser's Eagle Owl (Afrobubo poensis), and the Cape Eagle Owl (Afrobubo capensis), and Neobubo for two extant species: the Great Horned Owl (Neobubo virginianus) and the Lesser Horned Owl (Neobubo magellanicus), while the genera Nyctea (Snowy Owl Lineage) and Neobubo (New World Horned Owls) are officially sister taxa, the genus Afrobubo (African Horned Owls) is more closely related to the fishing owls (genus Scotopelia) and the genus Indobubo (South Asian Horned Owls) is more closely related to the fish owls (genus Ketupa), leaving the genus Bubo (Palearctic Horned Owls) as the most distantly related from all the other groups, in fact, all these genera: Bubo, Nyctea, Neobubo, Afrobubo, Scotopelia, Indobubo, and Ketupa are eagle owls, whilst only four genera being Bubo, Neobubo, Afrobubo, and Indobubo are called horned owls, horned owls are an informal group because the genera Neobubo (New World Horned Owls), Afrobubo (African Horned Owls), and Indobubo (South Asian Horned Owls) are all more closely related to the genera Nyctea (Snowy Owl Lineage), Scotopelia (Fishing Owls), and Ketupa (Fish Owls) respectively than they are to the genus Bubo (Palearctic Horned Owls).
A few travel and stay in Wisconsin for the winter

A wonderful channel that deserves all respect, appreciation and pride. Accurate and useful information in a sophisticated and beautiful manner. I wish you lasting success. I have the utmost respect and admiration for your great honor for these wonderful works. I hope you success
Oh yes, I totally agree.
This documentary is beautiful. In the region where I lived when I was a child there was (perhaps still exists) a kind of large owl with white feathers on the head and light gray on the chest. The Brazilian Suindara (Tytonidae) is very different from this white owl.

Had it not been for this superb doc., I would not have had any knowledge of the life & plight of a snowy owl in the Arctic, let alone its existence in such an extreme foreboding terrain. Thanks to this documentary, I've gained new insight into the behavior of the rare & unique animal like no others. Moreover, I just want to say that it is not only educational, edifying, but also so informative. Infinitely grateful & gratified w/ it to the core.,,,,,(07/09/23)
So we'll said, bless you!
Thanks a lot for your compliment.@@MaryDougherty-ge3mh
To survive in the magical world of winter, one needs particular qualities: Intelligence, sense of adventure, and immense power of endurance.
Feels like the owl is screaming in frustration at 11:31😂
What a beautiful sight to behold. Thank you so much for a well detailed documentary❤❤❤
The winter scenery was beautiful and the story was amazing thank you
Уникальный фильм, спасибо!!!
Amazing beauty, thank you Best Documentary....
Documentary marvellous, my friend! . Marvellous documentary, very good .
How come they have managed to follow a single owl? I am intrigued about the rest of its family during its journey. How have they captured its flight so well? Was the animal tagged?
DLSRRRR duh 😅
These types of documentaries typically take a lot of footage of different individuals, and edit together a story. Sometimes you get a doc that follows just one animal, but it's exceedingly difficult.
Thank you so much for the amazing documentary. Enjoyed every bit of it.
Superb photographic skills give us a wealth of beautiful Arctic scenery, flora and fauna in latitudes that are less than forgiving. The owl's flight started abruptly. Did ma owl and the threesome make it or did they starve? Thank you for a great documentary and to those hardy photographers! -40 hurts! As a Canadian I've lived days like that. Keep your wits even in the southern regions.
Most unskilled hunter ever seen😂😂😂. It himself gives the siren of arrival to prey😂😂😂
what a magical world.😮 Amazing, subhanAllah.
BEAUTIFUL NATURE.. THE LORD IS MAGNIFICENT 💕🙏🤗🫂💐...🥹😘

I think you should get an awRd for your beautifully well done video. I am only a person, but it is charmingly done.
We see snowy owls every year on Marthas Vineyard...so yes they do migrate alittle south...
The animals and the atmosphere is so beautiful
All owls are my favorite birds....❤❤❤
The Snowy Owl is very rare in the Waddenzee and they come from Canada not Siberia.
The most beautiful arctic wildlife animals from snowy owls all the way to little snowy mouths what a lovely place for all of the wildlife animals.
Yeah😢
I Absolutely love and enjoy watching the beautiful from snowly Owls to the different species of animals in the arctic .
Not the video title being, the snowy owl being the most skilled hunter, then the video proceeds to show that it stuggles to catch prey. 😅😂
This was amazing.
The animals hunting techniques are amazing. Thanks for sharing a wonderful documentary. 🙏🏻❤️🎥

Thank you! It's very useful
A 29:57, ce n'est pas une mouette, mais un jeune goéland !!! Je rectifie par rapport aux sous-titres en français.
Moral of the story; If you are a snowy owl you are almost GUARANTEED all winter long to watch every other predator species but your own eat.
Feeling to be in love with snowy owl, how marvelous he is when that too eager to be their in wait of all that which appear Infront of him, flew almost entire artic region, his habitual behaviour, taught him to be their after having a failure when condition and pray ability doesn't help him to, excellent it is to be just with him to fly, and could tickle on his nose,. Feel sorry for the duck, who dive, but still dies,
....I thought it was an AI production...Ok, the camera man is talented (if the video is real). Very talented!!! But The guy who did the voice-over...has a rare ...frequency" :) Sorry, loved his voice!
