@@johndesper9425 Why?
I've had the Nitro Acer 5 for almost a year now (GTX 1060, i7, 144hz) and it was a giant leap from gaming on a macbook air from 2013. Runs well but has HUGE problems with thermals. The CPU hits +90c in almost every game, throttles every now and then, and that's all after I've repasted, downclocked the cpu, undervolted and cleaned the fans of dust. Runs modern titles on medium at decent framerate, but the sucker runs rocket league like a charm, 9/10 great for car-soccer.
I have the Nitro 5 from this year and it is indeed a great bargain. The only real downside is if you're a power user, you'll want to double the RAM. And get the model with SSD!!
"Speaking of affordable..." SKIIIIIP

Honestly, I never skip sponsor segway, Linus does them in a way that they are entertaining in my opinion at least :D

Damn, these are pretty fresh.
I was actually sceptical of the design and was looking for a more toned down on like Lenovo's, but after buying it I can definitely say I love the design, especially the backlit keyboard.
hah you must be a highschooler
Still rocking mine 😂
5:25 "If Apple gets called out, Acer must expect the same treatment too" You do realise that Apple's poor thermals and issues are on a 3,000$+ Device, 4X more than the this poor device? And that this also performs on-par with that 3000$ Mac? And that you can likely under-volt and remove all these issues, because this isn't MacOS? Obviously, I am not saying that companies must start making throttling devices that burn, like back from 2005, but Acer definitely doesn't need to be compared to a shoddily engineered 3000$ devices

Nice spec bump and bezel improvement! I liked my 2018 Nitro. May have to jump on this one
Thank you for this review. I've been looking for an affordable gaming laptops, and came across the Acer Nitro 5, but wasn't quite sure if it was good or not. Now after watching this review, I think I've made the right decision. Amazing video, keep up the good work.
I have the 2018 edition and I can say it was well worth the money. My only complaint is that the ethernet port has this weird plastic door on the lower side that doesn't really secure cables correctly.
@Chrismon if you're thinking about getting a Nitro, do yourself a favor and look into getting one with a Ryzen chip. While it works quite well out of the box and you can't overclock it, you can do some pretty impactful tuning, like raising your power limit as those usually come set quite conservatively. My 2500u came with a 25W limit out of the box, but I can get it to do 35W comfortably without throttling and 40W for tasks that require short bursts of performance as it throttles hard to 2GHz on all cores if it hits the temp limit. Without tuning, it boosts up to 2.9 GHz and stays there, on 35W I can get about 3.3 and 3.5 on 40W. I tend to lock the clockspeed a bit lower so that the APU can maintain stable max clocks ( the power draw is shared between the CPU and the APU), which gives me a considerably smoother framerate ( which is also a bit higher) since I don't have a dGPU
@@micheledamian8671 IS IT THAT HARD TO DO A PROPER ETHERNET JACK THAT DOESN'T SPIT YOUR DAMN CABLE OUT? I had more luck using cables with less shielding, since they are softer and don't push against the port so hard.
@@jonixas1 Exactly. All of this is because they wanted to try and keep the laptop "thin", but it doesn't make sense for a laptop like this. Just make it thick and allow me to use proper ports, if I wanted something thin and light I would've bought an ultrabook.
Only on LTT would you hear an 800-1000 US laptop described as "budget".
For a gaming laptop, that is quite on the low end of true gaming laptops
I'm looking at one that's 3K for photography lol
He should have titled the video Budget Gaming Laptops, because the title gives the wrong impression, that he is referring to general purpose machines
compare to apple premium. 1000 is semi-premium. 400 is budget
@@michaelroberts1120 I agree with that, but knowing LTT they are going to do what gets them the most clicks sadly, instead of doing the best things for their long time viewers. Also in my book anything NEW under $500 USD is budget, but of course I'm the type to buy used Lenovo Thinkpads for under $200 USD(most of the time under $100 USD), and I'm find with a 720p screen, or better, since I don't usually game on my laptop with anything more taxing on Manjaro Budgie Linux beyond something like PacMan 256, or Sonic Mania, and do my major gaming on my desktops, so take my comment as you will.

I’ve had the Nitro 5(i5 8th Gen) since 2017. I %100 recommend. I’m no video editor so I can’t speak for that. However, I did put this thing through school & am now using this for work- I do a lot of writing & have never had any problem with the keyboard. For gaming you can run pretty easily on high settings for 60fps. However I recommend running on low to medium & putting the far vision setting on high. Like this you hover anywhere from 80-100fps easily. Only negatives are: The key pad is not “good” it’s pretty bad haha. I recommend getting a mouse. Also, it’s pretty heavy. About 5-6pounds.
“Key pad”
I have the bundle version, so i use the monitor and mouse.
Got my Nitro 5 AMD version about a year ago, love the thing. It almost 95% of the time does the job for what I do, just note, fan noise might be a problem for you in games like cs:go or other 3D-rendered & shaded games, but you really don't recognize it with a good pair of headphones on :). Overall worth shelling out the $800 or so I got it for. I'd highly recommend if you just want something to play games on or do work. One last thing, the screen looks amazing!
Can you tell me if this laptop can last 4+ years because I really don't wanna buy a new laptop every 2-3 years.
I bought the I5 model with the 1650 I love it it's an amazing laptop I use it nearly everyday and it was a great deal on sale for black Friday for about 700

@@erickhodorenko226 Oh pls, I've been using my laptop at least 6 years now and not once and I mean ONCE that I need or even want to use the webcam.
@@erickhodorenko226 I see the webcam in laptop like how the kinect is, an unnecessary feature. Plus is it a fact that a lot of people doesn't care about a shitty webcam that manufacturers keep on using time and time again. If the omission of the webcam can reduce the price of a product then by all means they should do it or at the very least manufacturer should give us the option to buy a webcam-less version. A price reduction is a plus to any consumer.
@@erickhodorenko226 99% percent of people with laptop have smartphones. Why the heck they need webcam if phone has way better front camera?

February 2020, I got the Acer Nitro 5 at best buy for $649 and I am beyond satisfied. Can run modern warfare, sea of thieves, fortnite, and overwatch perfectly fine. I was kind of surprised when I first played each of these games it recommended high-ultra settings. One downside is it makes me slightly uncomfortable that they run at high temps around 80-90 when playing but they've added a coolboost feature which increase your max fan speed and keeps it cool. I've played for hours on end with zero issues. Great pc
6:00 lmao that frustration was so infomercial

I love this channel but I will never understand Linus's obsession with webcams on laptops.
Seriously, Linus refuses to accept that 95% of people don't use or care about a webcam
This comment needs to go up high... I am sick of hearing Linus whine about something I honestly don't give a damn about.
Because portable machines are often used for work, not just gaming. If it's got one, there's no reason it can't be decent.
Considering that the major flagship phones have cameras that as a single component costs around 50$ it's a joke not to include a similar one on laptops. My 2 cents.

My biggest issue with sub-1000 laptops is almost always the user interface, as in the stuff you interact with. The display, keyboard and trackpad seem to be always lacking in those but I suppose you have to cut costs somewhere. I use a Macbook Pro at work and all of the above are top notch, it's hard to settle for less after experiencing that.
Meh I prefer not having a webcam at all. Saves me the effort of deactivating it, removing the drivers and putting a black sticker on top.
@CYHC no.
@CYHC its not stupid because someday without knowing someone can hack your laptop and literally can watch you from your camera all day.

Alright, but what about the 2019 asus predator 300?
I just got a 5 today. It looks nothing like yours (has ports in different places, ram slots are towards the center, etc... Maybe I have this years as it was a bit more expensive than what you say in this video. Mine has a 500gb ssd with 8 gig Ram (upgradable to 32) a spare slot for a HDD, Nvidia GTX1660Ti 6gb graphics card. and can out put 4k. It runs every game I own at over 100fps on max settings. It also doesn't have the red marks around the WASD keys. But those and the arrow keys are a bit more tactile than the others and have a better feel to them. I wish they'd have used that for every key. But the keyboard is really good, great positive feel to every key apart from the spacebar... Track pad on a huge TV is very fast even on the lowest setting and it's crying out for 2 dedicated mouse buttons. And the final point, you can not get this model with an AMD. It only comes with I5. I paid just over £800 so just over $1000... And I'm very happy with the video editing, alone. My old, not too, shabby laptop would output videos at about 1 minute per every 1% rendered at 720p @ 30fps. This will do 1% every 3 seconds @ 1080p 60fps... And that's while I'm watching hd vidios on YT Chrome... lol

6:02 Wow I didn't know Asus made the G502. Lol.
I bought mine cause it had awesome features, great reviews and it had the headphones and mouse included with it, and also I'm a high schooler and it looks pretty dope
What about the versions with the ryzen 5 coupled with the GTX 1650 and the ryzen 5 coupled with RX560x. Will the ryzen bottleneck with the 1650 in the first and will the performance be noticeably different with the second all AMD version
This is the kind of thing you watch at 4 in the morning (which is what I'm doing)
@ismaeel ahmed you live in Asia?
4:05 a.m. but I'm a day late to this video
& keep dreaming about it 🤣🤣
Oh boy a new budget laptop video >mentions the nitro 5/7 >aspire e15 5762 says "am i joke to you?"
Cries in aspire 5

As an owner of the Acer Nitro 5 I have over time been finding some things wrong with it. 1. Slight screen burn after a few minutes. 2. The number pad, and right shift key are really close to the arrow keys, so sometimes when I am going for right arrow I accidentally hit 0 and when I go for right shift I hit up arrow instead. 3. I found out from Dave Lee's review on this. I recommend you check it out as well. That the exhaust system is poorly set up and can result in overheating after over an hour of gaming. I have yet to personally experience this, but it is concerning. 4. I made the mistake of getting the model with the 1050 as opposed to the 1050 ti. Both are stickered as Oculus Ready, but I would highly recommend going for the 1050 ti. Better yet, get a 1060 if you are going for vr. 5. This laptop does not have a display port or mini display port which makes Oculus Rift S setup more difficult if not impossible. Oculus Rift ready? Yes. Oculus Rift S ready? No.
3 years in any review on the new Nitro 5? With maybe the i5 12th gen or i7 12th gen? Haven't had a laptop comparison in a long while.
800 is budget??? I thought that 500 is already too much for a budget laptop
Straight up, I can't justify $800 on a laptop. I'd rather put it towards building a desktop over time...
if u want to game for 500 then u would go for console not pc
@@cosmic3039 My 300€ pc can out perform any console by a lot. Triple AAA titles on high-ultra settings 60fps+ Esports tiltes like csgo and fortnite get 200-400 on csgo and 144-240fps with some drops in fortnite
he should have said "budget GAMING laptop" instead of just "budget laptop"

Last time I had to sell my house when you talked about budget laptop. I think many people know which video I am talking about. Now, let's see this video. Fingers crossed. 🤞😳
You got a house to sell? Bruh I'm on the streets cause of how much houses I've had to sell for these budget laptops
not to be rude but its only 500 yeah its alot but it only took me a month and two weeks to get a 1000 dollar one and i make like 5 dollars more than the mimium wage
2022 and I have the Nitro 5 i5-11400h with RTX 3060 for just $699. Also planning to add more RAM to it since 8gb is just too small.
