Why was this a popular question to ask guys in the 90's?
My best guess: In the 1980s, it was extremely common for men to wear white cotton briefs. (Wikipedia says they outsold boxers 4x in 1985.) Boxers became more fashionable in the late '80s with appearances in the media, so by 1994, it was a toss-up which someone might be wearing. At the time, it was a question that felt playful, flirty, and maybe revealed a little bit about that person's private life and personal style.
Nowadays you have to actually ask a Republican who won the 2020 election.
