  • I think most of us strongly suspect what you are up to and you have my utmost respect and admiration. It is a BIG decision which is the right one and you will do just fine because you will approach it with the "I can do it" mindset of a great machinist. Your consideration of all us viewers is very humbling which is a testament to who you are, a really great guy. Abby is lucky to have you in her life and will be a big support as the two of you travel this road together. You have my prayers and best wishes for the success you so deeply deserve. As for Abby making chips on a substitute SS, a bowl of chips and dip setting on the cross slide while she narrates your progress would be a hoot.

You're entertaining and informative and SNS, in particular, has found a place in my weekend routine. I hope your time off goes well and I hope your elective goes off without a hitch! Cheers!

  • Best of luck on the procedure. On the cylinders, the pair are swing cylinders for the backhoe. On the assembly, a couple additional checks I make are when I I stall an oring, I check the parting line to be sure it isn't rolled. Additionally, after installing the rod guide (or gland as some call it) and the piston in the bore, I check to be sure I didn't shave any seal off on the edges. I usually just wipe off any extra grease and give it a quick rub with my fingers to tactically and visually check for anything. After 25 years, I have found a few that got scraped, but less than a handful. I spent 15 years in a Deere industrial dealership and resealed many, many Deere cylinders with the cap seal. I just did two swing cylinders and he needs 4 or 5 more done and I am thinking of doing a video on them. I have a couple of tricks that are worth sharing. Thanks for all of the great content and best of luck for you and your nurse.

Your additional understanding of fabrication techniques and your knowledge of and ability to accomplish basic good welding, makes for a nice variety of interesting projects. I certainly enjoy all the clips that you are able to get at the Fab Shop, including how what you've done, fits into the big assembly and what others have done. Me? I'm worn out, and retired. Thanks a million for your 2 channels!

  • good job on the cylinders. one trick i learned when working in a hyd shop was to put the seals in boiling water . it softened the seals and made it easier to install . those small cylinders can be a real bear to rebuild we also used automotive piston ring compressors to collapse the piston seals and sometimes some good old shim stock and hose clamps. those seal colapsers are practically indispensable for installing small seals. best of luck with your procedure. we are all pulling for you. .

I almost lost the best manager I ever worked for when his management team talked him into coming back too soon. He wound up with a lot of additional problems as a result. Theres a lot of stuff I need to re-watch anyway, so, we'll be good to go as soon as you are!

  • I do a lot hydraulic cylinders myself and enjoyed this video. Great tips for rebuilding even for us with experience. The kit king tool would definitely make installing rod seals easier even if it doesn't always work perfectly 😁. For lube I have always used petroleum jelly mostly because it comes in a tub with a good lid and it sticks to what ever it touches and doesn't wipe off easily. But just wanted to say thanks for all your videos and yes its my Saturday evening relaxation time and always look forward to watching and learning.

  • Good luck on your recovery excellent tutorial on hydraulic cylinder rebuilding. Have to say Hercules seal company is fantastic they treat the individual the same as a large company. Rebuilt 7 cylinders for my son's backhoe this winter and when I had to call customer service they treated me no different than their largest customers. Prices are great and shipping is fast and very reasonable. You can go online and order there or call for their free catalogs which I also like to work from and order by the numbers in the book. I also have a good relationship with the local hydraulic shop when I only need a few quick items. Thanks for the videos

I showed your video to the BOP repair guys and they loved it, some of the seals are deep in the bores. They what me to find or make them extremely lone set. Thanks for sharing.
