Debra DeWolff, a local artist from Wisconsin, started out as a fiber artist, she later added polymer clay and metal clay to her repertoire. She visited Cool Tools to demonstrate how to create a flower petal cane using the skinner blend process to create a strip that has a gradual color change, folding it using an accordion fold and then rolling it into a cane. We have included a second video in which Deb demonstrates how to make the center portion of the flower.

  • You do beautiful work. As a beginner, it would be helpful to know how much clay is being used to make the canes shown in tutorials. I am finding most clay artists don't post that information (or discuss it in the videos) and I always seem to end up with not enough. I know the amounts can be adjusted depending on how big of a cane is desired but knowing where to start (or what is used in the tutorial) would be great.

    @stacyburns8878@stacyburns88787 жыл бұрын
    • Thank you, Stacy. I think that for the Skinner blend I used for the petal cane, I used about 2 oz. each of purple, pink, and white clay. But then from that Skinner blend, I didn't use all of it for the petal cane. I think I used about one third of it to make the long strip that I accordion-folded into the petal cane. That would mean that I was working with a strip of about 3 oz. of clay. I usually don't work with less than 2 oz. of each color or blend, no matter what I'm making. I hope this helps. In future tutorials I'll try to say how many ounces of each color I'm using. -Deb.
