  • His clearance against Mark Williams in the world final a few years back was infinitely better. Williams missed an easy pink that would have won him the match, the title. Higgins came to the table, clearance needed to stay in the match, and he sunk every one. If the clip is on here and you haven't seen it please watch it, see what Johnno can do in a real situation. The king of composure!

Just opinion of course, But what a player.

    • @@jonathanlegg4308 Except that he wasn't and he isn't. He was snooker world champion at the time and with the blessing of Barry Hearn and the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association and his then manager Pat Mooney (who was a WPBSA board member at the time), as the reigning world champion John Higgins was asked to go over to the ex-Soviet Union countries on a PR initiative to help promote the game to a wider audience. No doubt whoever was reigning world champion would have been asked to do the same, but at the time it just happened to be Higgins. Higgins was cleared of the most serious charges, of agreeing to accept a bribe and agreeing to engage in corrupt or fraudulent conduct, but found guilty of failing to report the illegal approach and intentionally giving the impression he was prepared to act in breach of betting rules. Well since it was sprung on him minutes earlier by Mooney just before they went into the meeting in a hotel room Kiev with people Higgins was concerned about, being that the Russian mafia was an emerging thing back then, I know if it was me I would have agreed to anything just to get out of there safely and then swiftly taken a flight back home, which oddly enough is exactly what Higgins did.

    • In my opinion, the governing body of snooker were desperate to protect the image of the game and because he's one of the greatest players, they panicked and did the minimum they felt they could credibly do - a back-dated six month ban and a £75,000 fine. They found no evidence of match fixing because they didn't try to find any and it's not the kind of thing that people talk freely about. They appointed a RETIRED senior police office who happened to be on the snooker governing body to oversee a 'full' investigation. This gave the 'investigation' credibility by using the reputation of the RETIRED senior police officer but no actually criminal investigation or charges took place. Snooker took care of the situation 'in-house'. The outcome was a half-baked result that said that Higgins 'failed to report' this incident kzhead.info/sun/l7eAYJyFkKCYop8/bejne.html and 'gave the impression' that he would fix matches. Higgins basically kept his mouth shut about this and has ridden out the storm to the point where it's for the most part, forgotten. Watch the link for yourself and make your own mind up. I think the allegations were true and this event forever tarnishes a great player
