Mormon missionaries-properly referred to as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-are representatives of Jesus Christ who share His gospel with the world. Missionaries have been teaching about Jesus Christ since long before He came to the earth. The Old Testament describes missionary efforts of prophets such as Noah and Isaiah, and the New Testament is filled with records of Jesus Christ ministering, teaching, and atoning for the sins of the world. After His death, the Apostles continued to remind and invite people to follow His teachings. It is no wonder we continue the practice of missionary work today.
Samuel Smith served as the first missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1830, just two months after the Church was organized. Since that time, the Lord has sent over one million men and women to serve and help people all over the world. No matter where they serve, missionaries all have the same basic responsibilities: to love, serve, teach, and baptize. The intent is for all people everywhere to have an opportunity to learn about Christ and follow His example of faith and baptism.

  • I served a mission in Southern Italy (The Catania Mission... in Lecce, Bari, Tarranto, and on Sicily in Caltinessetta, Licata, and Ragusa) from 1995-1997... my oldest son is now serving a mission in Medellin, Colombia... Why? Because we believe in Jesus Christ, and we love his Gospel!

  • I've been called to serve in Philippines Antipolo Mission and I will report to the Philippines MTC on September. I'm grateful for this opportunity, and so grateful to help Heavenly Father to fulfill His plan for us. I believe that we are all children of God and Heavenly Father wants us all to be with Him someday. I applied to become a full time missionary because I love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Jesus Christ blessed me and I want other people to experience the blessing of knowing and applying His gospel in our life. He love us so much, and as I ponder about the gospel of Jesus Christ, my understanding about His atonement and the Plan of Salvation increased, that helped me develop so much love for His children and a desire to go on a mission. Im so excited and thrilled, I know Im still lacking but through preparation and through Him, he will help me to become a great representative of Jesus Christ.

  • I served as a missionary in the Province of Quebec, Canada between 1982 and 1984. Now, our youngest daughter is serving in the same mission, over 35 years later! (I just spoke with her a couple of hours ago.) We both serve(d) because we love the Lord and want to share His gospel with our neighbors, who we love as ourselves.

  • I absolutely love the Missionaries! After hitting a blue link online one night about receiving a new Bible, was followed up by a phone call from Utah, answered it and it was a female missionary who was from Australia. She was finishing her Mission at Temple Square in Utah's oldest and most famous, Salt Lake City! Then a follow up call came from the Elders locally. They brought me a new Bible and a Bonus; The Book of Mormon!That is where I began my best version of self ever in life, December of 2017. I was baptized properly and am now a grateful member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints! I couldn't be happier and have received a love like no other. If I was younger, than I would definitely want to join the Missionaries to spread the Gospel Word of Jesus Christ and I believe in the visions of Joseph Smith's account were real and true due to the feeling that came to me the day I prayed with the Elders! It was phenomenal and I love this Church, The Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith for being chosen to bring us back to the ways of Our Father in Heaven, through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour and The Holy Ghost...Amen.🌟💞🙏😇🌍PS. Now I know that I am not to old to be a Missionary! WoW!👍

  • Being a missionary is a great responsibility! A missionary must have great energy, fortitude, and courage. Wherever the missionary goes, no matter what part of the world he is in, he must spread the Word. Locals must understand what the missionary is telling them. The missionary must get the Word right! Therefore, every missionary must know the language of the local people! To everyone who is on a mission or preparing for one, I would like to recommend a very good workshop written by Yury Ivantsiv Polyglot Notes: Practical tips for learning foreign language. This wonderful book will give you answers how to properly learn a foreign language with a minimum of your time and effort. This book provides answers to many of the questions that everyone faces when learning a language. I wish you good luck in your important work!

  • I am grateful I served a mission in St Louis. I was a member for a year and half before going. I still love to share the gospel and I think the hardest thing was filling our time with meaningful efforts. Sometimes the pool was dry and sometimes it was full. Door to door was not effective where I was but I loved reactivation and serving people.

  • A Muslim follower of JESUS.... I know this sounds like a complete contradiction, but it's true! People from any culture can genuinely become a follower of JESUS. This is why JESUS' mandate to all of his disciples is to MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS (nations-cultures). If it weren't possible to be a follower of JESUS in any culture, then JESUS would have specified that you can only be a disciple (follower) of JESUS by denouncing your culture...but he didn't! He was primarily concerned with the person's relationship with him. (Samaritan woman, Roman official, Syrophoenician woman, the royal official, the demoniac of Gadara). I want you to hear the story of my friend, Faisal. Faisal's story is one of the most unique and genuine transformations I've ever witnessed. "I was born a Muslim in central Uganda," he says. "My Dad was a Muslim religious leader taking care of two districts in the central part of the country. He was an ambassador of the Ugandan Muslim Supreme Council, a body that oversees all activities of the Muslim community in the country. He spent 35 years supporting initiatives for the spreading of Islam. "As I was growing up, he taught me that Islam is the only true religion and that I should observe the Pillars of Islam and spend my time encouraging all my Christian friends to convert to Islam. I am very proud of my heritage and I identify myself as a Muslim.." "When I joined one of the Cornerstone Academy schools, where I was accepted as a Muslim, I learned more about JESUS. His message transcended what I had learned, while growing up. What I began to learn created what I can call an internal struggle within me, what in the true sense of Islam I would call 'jihad'. "During that time of feeling the internal struggle one morning at around 3 a.m., I heard a voice saying, 'Don't fear! Follow JESUS, because he is a word of truth.' I tried to check around to see who could have said that to me, but I did not find anyone. It was a strange experience. Later, I shared it with my friend. "I tried to resist this call to JESUS, because I thought all followers of JESUS are Christian and I did not want to become a Christian. I believed JESUS to be exclusively related to Christians and therefore, as a Muslim, I have no relationship with JESUS, even though JESUS' character and personality are so attractive and relevant to mankind. I also thought that I had to stop praying at the Mosque, join a Church or Christian gatherings and worst of all, I knew I could not tell my Dad that I had converted to Christianity. I remembered some time back, one of my elder sisters had converted to Christianity and things did not go well for her. She lost the relationship with the family and left home." "However, during this time of being all alone, I started studying the Injil (Gospels) with a very big motive of knowing who JESUS is and how can I live my life as a follower of JESUS. I found myself loving JESUS, because of his genuine concern for the total welfare of those he encountered. It was demonstrated, not spoken and included healing, moral teachings, crossing of social barriers, comforting, calming, freeing, touching the untouchables and befriending sinners. It was a genuine unconditional love! "A big surprise for me was to discover that according to the Gospels, JESUS was not a Christian. And JESUS never urged or required anyone else to become a Christian. To me, JESUS was greater than any religious classification. I came to the conclusion that JESUS is universal. He came for all cultures and that included my Muslim culture. After going through all of my internal struggles, I realized that following JESUS did not require me to abandon my Muslim culture. It's not a matter of religion or culture; it is about the revelation of God's truth as conveyed by JESUS' transformation of my heart. "It's difficult to explain what happened in me. I felt a definite renewal in my heart, as if a real connection was created inside me. I felt everything was new inside of me. I had only known doing what I was taught to do, but now with JESUS I found an inner peace and freedom I had never known. "I and a few friends have initiated small groups around different universities in Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda, composed of Muslim and Christian friends who sit every week to reflect on the teachings and person of JESUS. In addition to these nearly 20 universities, we meet in a weekly core group that sits every week in Kampala, Uganda.

    • The best source for an answer to a question would be the missionaries in which you can go to comeuntochrist.org or you can find the answer yourself at churchofjesuschrist.org

  • Is interracial marriage possible in this church

    @bellafarr4637@bellafarr46374 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Bella, thanks for your question. Latter-day Saint scripture and teachings affirm that God loves all of His children and makes salvation available to all. The Book of Mormon teaches that all are alike unto God: "(The Lord) inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile." (2 Nephi 26:33). Church leaders today unequivocally condemn all racism, past and present, in any form. The Church disavows the theories advanced in the past that black skin is a sign of divine disfavor or curse, or that it reflects unrighteous actions in a premortal life; that mixed-race marriages are a sin; or that blacks or people of any other race or ethnicity are inferior in any way to anyone else. • Does the church really believe that everyone on Earth died (except for Noah and family) in a great flood in 3000 bc?

    @tuckernielson1@tuckernielson14 жыл бұрын
    • The Church accepts the biblical account of the flood. I'll ask this, though: would Noah know if the *entire* earth was flooded? Did he have high-altitude aircraft or satellites to capture imagery and confirm the lack of any above-water land masses during the flood he experienced? Obviously not, so bear that in mind when reading his account.
