The Godhead consists of God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Each member is a different, individual being, yet all three are united in thought, knowledge, power, and purpose. They work together in perfect unity with the hope of bringing all God’s children back to live with Them again.
God is the Supreme Being and all-powerful Father of mankind. He is the literal Father of every human spirit, and every man and woman is created in His image. God-or Heavenly Father, as He is often called-has a glorified, physical body of flesh and bone.
Jesus Christ is the firstborn Son of God and the great example for all people. He is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. Like His Father, Jesus Christ has a glorified body of flesh and bone.
The Holy Spirit, or Holy Ghost, is the final member of the Godhead. He is a messenger, revealer of truth, and witness of the Father and the Son. The Holy Ghost is also known as the Comforter; His companionship brings truth, peace, and comfort. He is able to dwell within people because He does not have a physical body and exists only as a spirit.

I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no Savior.” John 1:1-3 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. • In this verse, the Lord is referring to the practice among Israelites of worshiping other gods along with worshiping the Lord, which is a direct violation of the Ten Commandments. He's essentially saying Ba'al won't save you, Ra won't save you, Zeus, Horus, Marduk, etc. won't save you. Only I, the Lord, can and will save you. Later on in the verse He actually talks directly to the idols as if they were things that could comprehend anything. Context is important.

    • Right, ISAIAH says there is no other savior, only one. Only one God is called savior. There is no other is correct. That's refering to Jesus alone. The father is obviously not that one savior. The holy ghost is not that one savior either. Therefore ISAIAH is not contradicting Joseph Smith. There is only one God called savior. That doesn't mean Jesus didn't have a literal father who he prayed to. Truly the Bible supports Joseph Smith and not popular Christian theories.

Read Colossians 1:15-20, as well; it helps in explaining this matter. No man has seen God (the Father) because He is invisible. This is true. But, it is also true that Jesus is the full embodiment and radiance of the invisible God. Additionally Jesus explains it Himself. Here's John 15:8-9 : Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? John 1, John 15, and the passage in Colossians are just a few of the many examples of passages that has led us Christians to believe in the trinity. I can certainly give you more examples if you'd like.

    • I think it just makes sense. We have additional passages of scripture these days that clarify things, but even just looking at the way that Jesus prays in John 17 that his followers may all be "one" as He and the Father are "one", it just makes sense to understand their unity as not being the same actual person.

      @00Fisher00@00Fisher005 жыл бұрын
    • I'd have to question the term "Christian" if you do not believe in the Trinity. Why, may I ask, do you believe God and Christ to be separate entities? Is that biblical? is it theologically sound? What are your reasonings?

      @esava44@esava444 жыл бұрын
    • @@esava44 It's very Biblical (though Christianity predates the Bible) and it's theologically sound. In response to one of your other comments above, I listed John 17:20-22; studying that passage should make clear that Jesus desired the same unity for His followers that He and His Father had. It wouldn't make sense if he wanted us all to be the same entity. Numerous other passages in the Bible only really make sense if they are separate entities; even the fact that He is talking to His Father there, or the fact that the Father spoke from Heaven when Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, only make sense if there are two personages. After the Apostles were lost, so was much truth, and other ideas were introduced. Have you ever heard of the Johannine Comma? It's a few words that were added to the Bible in order to give greater support to the idea of a Trinity. It's bizarre. The word Trinity never even appears in the Bible, or at least it didn't in any early translations. I don't know if it has been used in any newer translations, but "Godhead" is the term that was originally used, and is still present in the KJV among others. Many of us have been raised with traditions of belief that aren't quite right, but God will reveal truth to those who seek it. I would invite you to read the Nicene Creed (or any similar creed) and then to read the account of Joseph Smith's First Vision (which can be found at www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1, in verses 13-17 in particular). Then judge for yourself which is sound and accommodates reason.

The Holy Spirit is not the Father. This is the doctrine of the trinity. Trinity isn't a word that's found in the bible. It defines what we see when we read the bible; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Book of Mormon, although based on a lie, did teach the trinity in its early days: one God in three persons, but was later changed as Joseph Smith began to lose his mind. The Mormon Church does believe in one God. They believe in many gods.

And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one". The unity that the Father and Son have is the same kind of unity we can have with Them. I testify alongside Jay Britton Fisher that you must refrain from causing more confusion. Jesus prayed to the Father, He never prayed to Himself. Jesus called God His God as well as saying the Father is our God, so He isn't God, He is the Son of God, given that divine authority by the Father in Heaven. While on my mission, I met a regional rep to the Twelve who heard about the story of my joining the church. While discussing my story with him and about my dad, he stopped me for a moment and then told me that my father would join the church. "Maybe not now," he said, and I said, "You mean in the next world?" and he smiled and said no, that he would eventually join the church, and that it would be in his lifetime. • @@bobbq8380 We have sin, and all the results of it. We have limits. we have guns. We have plenty of things that God does not have, because God is more that just supreme. He is perfect. we have imperfections while He does not. The fact that God is eternal means he doesn't have a beginning. Flesh and bone is something God gave us, not because he had his own, but because he is creative and can create things that didn't previously exist. I think he has form, but not a physical body because as the bible says, God is spirit. Jesus wouldn't have said so if he wasn't.

      @jojohnofu@jojohnofu4 жыл бұрын
    • @Carlos Benz And why not? The word "spirit has multiple definitions based on the context. In this context, the word "spirit" is used in two different ways. The verse (John 4:24) states "God is spirit" to denote that he has no physical body. Why would he, since He created the physical universe including that which makes up man's physical body and therefore exists outside said universe? The verse further says "His worshipers must worship Him in the Spirit and in truth." Note the use of the word "the" before the word "Spirit." This conjunction transforms this usage of the word "spirit into a reference to the Holy Spirit. As in, we must worship God in the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. For, as stated in the previous verse - John 4:23 - they (those who worship in the Spirit and in truth) are the worshipers the Father seeks." As an anti-example, take the Pharisees. They worshiped in word and deed alone and were rebuked repeatedly. They "worshiped" God for the sake of prestige and honor. The Spirit was not in them, nor did they worship in a spirit of truth.

  • 1. Last semester in school, I had a religion class which helped me identify the foundations of the restoration. One of the things we talked about was the Godhead. My professor helped me understand the context of the early Christian church shortly after Jesus Christ left. The main religion was Greek philosophy, which includes the belief of gnotism. Gnotism is the belief that the physical world is evil. To the ancient Greeks, gods were not fully human, because humanity itself was evil. This belief impacted the early Christian saints greatly. Some believed that Jesus Christ was a spirit, only appearing to have a physical body, while other saints believed that He didn't really die, and thus wasn't resurrected. Learning this, I could see and understand how this prominant belief effected the early Christian church, especially when there was no leadership on the earth to guide them. 2. The Godhead (as three seperate beings) fulfills the law of witnesses: "In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established" (2 Corinthians 13:1). Didn't Jesus, Himself, say,"I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true." (John 5: 30-32, KJV)? Didn't Jesus, Himself, also say, "It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me" (John 8:17-18, KJV)? 3. I can further testify that the Holy Ghost is powerful enough for his influence to surround the world, yet small enough to reach each one of us individually.

    • @@00Fisher00 Gnosticism is not one set of ideas but many. Gnosticism (from Ancient Greek: γνωστικός gnostikos, "having knowledge") is a collection of ancient religious ideas and systems which originated in the first century AD among early Christian and Jewish sects. These various groups, labeled "gnostics" by their opponents, emphasized personal spiritual knowledge (gnosis) over orthodox teachings, traditions, and ecclesiastical authority. They considered the principal element of salvation to be direct knowledge of the supreme divinity, experienced as intuitive or esoteric insight. Generally, Gnostic cosmogony presents a distinction between a supreme, transcendent God and a blind, evil demiurge responsible for creating the material universe, thereby trapping the divine spark within matter. Many Gnostic texts deal not in concepts of sin and repentance, but with illusion and enlightenment. Gnostic is defined as a prominent heretical movement of the 2nd-century Christian Church, partly of pre-Christian origin. Gnostic doctrine taught that the world was created and ruled by a lesser divinity, the demiurge and that Christ was an emissary of the remote supreme divine being, esoteric knowledge (gnosis) of whom enabled the redemption of the human spirit. The Ancient Greeks had many sects and cults which followed the Olympic pantheon of gods and goddess which is 100% separate from Gnosticism.

If you study the scriptures, you will find that this doctrine was never taught by anyone in the scriptures. It is arrive at by the creeds, it is man made and a philosophy by men and now a tradition for many centuries. Yet it is not taught by anyone in the scriptures. Many will say, yes it is, but truthfully it is not, it is inserted or inferred into scriptures as was shown in this video. John 10 I and my Father are one. Is this teaching the trinity, that three persons are one substance/essence/being or is this teaching the same teaching as John 17 that the Father and Son are one and we can be one with them? That is the question that needs to be answered as we study the scriptures.

Numbers 18:21-22 states how the Israelites couldn’t come near the tabernacle where God dwells or else they will die from their sins within them.

John tells us Jesus was there at the beginning and all things were created by Him and through Him… Jesus the Son was not created by the Father, but existed with Him in the eternal, the holy uncreated One.

    • The passage that I find the most useful here is John 17. In it, Jesus prayed to the Father, and He said somethin very interesting about Their unity. He said that He wanted all of His disciples to be "one" in the same way that He and the Father are united. How is this possible? By following Christ's example. As He said to the Father, "not my will, but thine, be done." as we rely on the grace and power of Jesus Christ, who is God the Son, we can learn to do the will of the Father and seek His purposes instead of our own, and eventually we can have great unity with Them even though we are different beings. That kind of oneness makes sense.

    • But everything Christ says points to him and God being one. You forget John 1:1-14 where John states that they are the same. In Mathew 24:35 Christ States “The heavens and earth pass away, but my words never pass away”. To the Jewish people listen to the teachings of Christ, they would have known for sure that Christ was applying the words of Isaiah 40:8 to him which says “the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever”. Now the Mormon response would be well this is mistranslated, but my response to them is if you learn Greek-Aramaic and Hebrew, the document, which would be the same Paul would’ve had don’t have different meanings for these translations. There are many more examples of Christ claiming to be God, and while there are examples of separation there are greater examples of being one. Water is a great example of this. Ice,steam, and water are all the same molecularly, but they are all different and can be in the same presence of each other while being the same. In fact there are many things in this life that are different but the same thing. Mormonism tries to explain an infinite being and makes promises God speaks against. Joseph Smith even gave a sermon that claims if we work hard enough we can become Gods. Isaiah chapter 14 talking about the fall of the king of Babylon talks about how if you try to be God or greater than Him, you will fall. Even Adam and Eve wished to know like God and wanted to become more on His level just to be kicked out of the Garden of Eden and get humanity cursed with death. I really pray that Mormons begin to really search for God rather than to pray to something with doubt and be preyed upon by the enemy! Look and you will find, because the wages of sin is death but the gift to though who find faith in the one true God is life!

      @jackhardy8276@jackhardy82763 жыл бұрын
    • @@jackhardy8276 "One" does not mean "the same being". You can see this in Jesus' own words. In John 17, Jesus prayed to the Father and use that very word--"one"--several times. It's instructive to review His words. Verses 20-22 are especially helpful: "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one". You can see that it wouldn't make any sense for Jesus to pray that His followers would be the same being. Rather, that unity is something else. The unity of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Ghost is unity of purpose and will, demonstrated most especially when Jesus prayed to the Father and said, "Not my will, but thine, be done."

The truth is found in the dying words of Jesus Himself, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Jesus didn't say "I forgive them, for they know not what they do." The Savior's last breath and dying words, was a prayer, directed to His Father.

In verses 20-22, He said, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. If Mormons don't teach that Joseph Smith is the way to God, but teach that Jesus is the only way to the Father, then I don't get what the argument is. If believing in the book of Mormon adds revelation of Christ to the Bible, then all good. If it teaches anything other than scripture, then its an issue. I don't see much difference and I'm actually quiet alarmed at the hostility against Mormons. Anyway as long as we can sing Jesus is Lord together, I'm cool with anyone! So fellow non Mormon believers, let's focus on Christ and stop with the name calling and welcome those who call Jesus God! Its only those who cannot say Jesus is Lord and Hes the son of God who came in the flesh to die for our sins and bring us back into relation with our Heavenly Father; those who do not share this belief are the only ones we must confront to tell the good news to. I really don't get the back and forth 😕

The Bible didn't exist at the time; it was compiled several centuries later. For anyone reading the Book of Revelation after John wrote it, it would have been obvious that John was indeed referring to the very book he had written: Revelation. It's interesting to note that Moses wrote basically the same thing toward the end of his writings, in Deuteronomy 4:2 and 12:32, but of course we don't reject all scripture that follows the books of Moses. Good luck in your further study of scripture, and I highly recommend that you include the wonderful scripture God has given us in the Book of Mormon.

In that passage, Jesus was praying to the Father and spoke of their unity, and as He did so He prayed that His disciples would all be one just as He and His Father are one. That gives you insight about the kind of unity They have, because it's the same kind of Unity that we can have someday through Jesus Christ. They are one God--the "Godhead", as referred to in the Bible (see Acts 17:29; Romans 1:20; Colossians 2:9)--because of their great unity despite being separate beings. John 4:24 is another potentially confusing passage when compared with others even in just the Bible; we read elsewhere about Jesus being on the right hand of God, for example, and there are other passages that refer to His feet. Latter-day Saints know that indeed, we must worship God in "spirit and truth", and we know the power of the Holy Ghost--the "Spirit of God"--who is the third member of the Godhead. In addition, we have received additional revelation that clarifies who in the Godhead possesses flesh and bone; Devon Blake cited this above. Given the potential confusion that arises, it is wonderful that God has given us more. God speaks to modern prophets who speak words of truth. • The traditional Christian concepts of the Trinity are both self-contradictory and contradict the scriptures. In particular, in the Garden of Gethsemane, when Jesus is suffering for the sins of mankind, He says "Father, if it is Your will, let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." How can one being ask itself for permission, then acquiesce its will to itself?

    • The Trinity is one being with three persons, each coequal and coeternal, neither confounding the persons or dividing the substance.

    • @BigBoyBrock 14 Generally, their wills are alike, though I can imagine that Jesus' will at the moment was different in a way. He was in an extremely physically and emotionally difficult circumstance, bearing more pain than anyone else has ever endured. He would have been physically experiencing a desire to not experience that pain. God the Father surely empathized, but each knew the importance of Jesus' task, and so Jesus subjected Himself to the pain, subordinating His natural physical desire to avoid pain. That's how I understand it, anyway.

    • @@00Fisher00 I disagree. When Jesus prayed to the Father and asked him to take away the cup of agonizing pain, I don't think his Father had any desire to comply because of his mission. He sent an angel instead to touch him and make him stronger for the additional pain he would be suffering in satisfying the infinite and eternal demands of justice, a pain so great that it would have killed him before all was completed and thwarted the plan of the Father.

    • @@wadsworththebutler9657 Actually, I think we agree on that part; God's will was always that His plan be accomplished. What I mean when I say that He empathized is that I think He felt something for His Son who was enduring such pain. As a mere, simple, mortal father, I feel empathy for my children when they go through pain and struggles, and even in my simplicity I still want them to do what they should. I'm sure the Father's will remained the same through it all, which is why Christ's words of "not my will, but thine, be done" carry such important meaning.

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 1 Corinthians 2:7But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.9But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. A Father of all, who is through all, and in you all. In 2014 your adoption, to wit, the redemption of your bodies was prepared. Why should you be stricken any more? You will revolt more and more?Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and "joint-heirs" with Christ (a Child); if so be that we suffer with him, "that we may be also glorified together."18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. The creature: denotes the whole creation, therefore; Ephesians 4:4There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; Ephesians 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Revelation 2:17He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. If you were to go to Gilgal in the days of the Israelites, what would you see? The answer; stones, some pretty specific stones. A rolling away, to a place of new beginnings. To roll away from their enemies. Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar ibb.co/GVLPD7C, in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is New Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him "my new name".13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. • We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. Also, Jesus Christ is Jehovah, the God of the Old Testament, and represented his Father in that capacity as well. Romans 8 - (17-18) 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

However, this cannot be taken literally, because there are plenty of passages in the Bible of God appearing to people. People who saw God: Revelations 1:17 Isaiah 6: 5 1 Samuel 3: 21 Deuteronomy 5: 2-4 Deuteronomy 34:10 Genesis 32: 30 People who saw the resurrected Christ: Matthew 28: 1-10; 16-20 Mark 16: 9-11 Luke 24: 34; 50-52 John 20: 19-28 John 21: 1-14 1 Corinthians 15: 6-7 (500 people) Acts 7: 55-6 Acts 9: 1-6
