One of the Most Infamous Missions in Helldivers 2 actually isn't that hard. We just haven't been doing it right.
Follow this strategy to complete more of these operations and reduce the detrimental impacts of farming to Super Earth

  • Just wanna say I'm proud to feel like I contributed to this as my squad and I figured this out within the first week they popped up. After which we all (while I know I did) taught any groups we could, this method to beat it. I personally ended up clearing this 5 times each with different groups on lvl 9. LMAO I even remember joking saying "watch this become the meta and people start posting on the sub to do this method" with my friend going "lol one week and there will be videos on it if they do" Lo and behold. It's not fun... But it's consistent. I do regret not posting it on the sub when we found it but I'll concede I'm not really one for making long detailed posts so I'm glad someone else is. Thanks for making this video and spreading the awareness 🍻

    • i really tried it , we did it the exact same way , but at some point 3 times in a row , there would come like 2 -3 ship and drop straight into the town

    • @@cykablyat3680 depending on the time left if you run from point to your squad they will follow. If you have enough time you can do that at least twice per match, sometimes 3 if you get a rough start. I've had it where I was doing the buttons and died to a drop ship but the moment I died the drop ship despawned (in real time lmao) and they started moving/spawning back where the rest were.

    • @@havefuntazarasu5367 stealth isn't fully working but if that happens just run. Also if you get a drop ship on you of just minor enemies that can be downed with your primary. Leave em. Don't kill em they won't get enough civvies to matter. And they shouldn't kill you if you're good at moving around. Once you kill them it alerts more to your position (kinda like a last known position search in many stealth games) so best case is if that happens, just let em walk around and practice their best stormtrooper aiming.

    • @@valeclaw1697 Not really? If you’re defending instead of attacking your priorities are evacuating civilians and killing enemies. If you’re on the offensive you’ll have a bunch of other operations meant to disrupt the enemy

    • Yeah, I find the mission itself really boring, but if it was only now and then I could probably deal with it, but needing to do it all the time because it shows up in every defence campaign sucks.

  • The bigger issue is that the missions are supposed to be 40min missions but when you land its 15min. This leads the game to think you've been already in for 25min and ramps the difficulty up immediately which is why it seems like you get rushed so quickly.

  • Another way to take care of it: two people doing combo recoiless taking down the drop ships as they come in while the other two do mop up. Takes a little skill, but it keeps the party together and is extra rewarding.

  • I joined a random lobby, me one other guy and the host. Host picked this mission then left us like 15 seconds into it. Me and the other guy tried until we were defeated. I salute the other guy for sticking it out with me.

  • The fact that this sort of cheese is necessary just shows how busted the missions are. They just need to implement a spawn limit on the enemies cos they pretty soon become overwhelming when playing the mission the 'normal' way

    • @@DrPooplove I do appreciate that it’s a stealth approach using diversion as a strategy, so fair play. Cheese is probably a strong word. But the fact that it’s (nearly) impossible to do it by just defending the points on higher difficulties suggests it might need tweaking (again) imo

    • Exactly. Stealth is fun. But the fact that we essentially HAVE to play this mission in a certain way to even have a chance at completing it just shows how poorly balanced it is. The balancing in this game in general is pretty poor but these escort missions are just ridiculous.

  • They should redesign these missions to include regular SEAF forces, as well as a bit more time to setup. How well you do with the mission can hinge upon how well you can support the regular troops.

  • the other group don't even have to stay still. they just have to make some noice and move around the map collecting sample while 1 person finish main mission.

  • I want to try this out. A strategy that worked for us, was 2 guys stay up on the landing platform each with recoilless rifles, and they do assisted reloads to shoot down all the incoming dropships before they land. It takes some practice, but after getting the hang of it they'll be able to take them down consistently. The sentries and orbital lasers take out anything else that lands. The other two just press buttons the whole time, and also have recoilless rifles to shoot down any stray ships or tanks.

  • This method works great! I got a group together and convinced them to try this method. We were on difficulty 7 i think and we landed at the edge and i ran to free the scientists. After i got about 21 i noticed bots starting to get close and eventually they were dropping on me so we all went at it but were quickly overwhelmed so we actually fell back to recollect ourselves and let the bots disperse before going back in and spamming the doors. After like 3 minutes we got the rest of the doors and just held out on the landing pad for the dropship to pick us up and we completed the hardest mission in the game for the first time

  • Took long enough for this to catch on, the hardest part early on was convincing public groups to even try rescue. Favorite loadout for the scout is both mortars, orbital railgun/500kg (for hulks in patrols), and auto cannon or railgun.

  • I find that most players are just so dense they cannot fathom that there are other way to complete a mission other than shooting everything on sight. Even telling them to not engage patrols and run from enemies reinforcement instead of locking themselves in a reinforcement loop is more than they can comprehend. On the flip side, I'm usually the quick one, so I leave them be and run for the objective.

  • Did this last night on a whim. My strat was SPAM BUTTONS all the time and just bruteforce it. This slows down midway as you get too many mobs to handle (on Sewer-slide mode) at about 25 - 30 scientists. Had a teammate say "all kite south" we all went south, i dropped my mortar sentry and ems, went back in after about 60 sec and was laughing !!

  • I knew it had to be something like this! Considering the map is way more open than the Reduce Numbers missions it communicates that standing in the objective is probably not the only thing you want to be doing. We lost this one, but next one we'll be ready.

  • was successful with this strat last night when i was trying to unlock Helldive. I had 2 legends of team PUG teammates who knew what i was doing when i dropped us in away and i was the stealth guy. same as you got killed by a devastator from one random patrol but when i got back to the area all that remained was a few tier 1 sentries easily dispatchable. Boom mission success and it was the last of 3 so Helldiver Unlocked!

  • I was playing with a veteran diver last week and he helped me understand this. I was a fresh lv7 rookie and this guy was in the 30s, bro was so surprised to see me fighting bots at a low level and really helped me out a lot with learning ways to deal with them. His advice made these missions so much less of a hassle, went from constant failures to clean successes in no time at all

  • If the problem is the neverending ships of reinforcements, then the solution is simple. Get rid of the ships before they land 🤷 Need two people, 2 mortars, 1 emp mortar, 1supplypack, and 1 recoilless rifle/boomstick. The last load out is whatever and the other two people can take whatever they want because their main job is go open doors. The one carrying the gun has the supply pack to resupply the loader, and the loader just does one thing, load him up and throw out his turrets. You need two people because you and your loader becomes the turret tower with recoiless. Your main job is to take out those ships coming down. You aim for one of the ships 4 engines on each end. One engine out is enough to knock it out of the sky ALONG with whatever they are carrying. Whatever you dont get, mortars and turrets should take care of. Remember, bringing democracy not only means bringing the bigger gun, it's knowing how to use the bigger gun correctly Also key tip, remember to constantly go through the buildings again, you need to press the buttons again to spawn out citizens to evacuate.

    • Easier said then done. you get 2-3 ships at a time every 2 minutes, even if you take out 1 ship, you still got 2 more ships with 6 units on the other two. Sometimes the ships wont go down, we shot 2 spears onto a ship and it didn't even take it down which I think is bull.

    • @@PrinceArtemis spear are for tanky units and must be aimed accurately, in case of a bio Titan, if it does not hit the head with a spear, it will not go down with one shot. Recoilless and anti-tank can one shot transports as I said before if you aim for the engines keeping them up. They have 4 on each end and with practice, absolutely doable. That's why you also need a loader and a guy good under pressure who knows his one and only job. Take your time aiming, the drop ships have a opening right as they stop moving. Doesn't matter if they have dropped their load yet, the transport dropping also damages everything around it. Only difference is the transports coming in with vehicles, they stop and go up a bit higher than regular troop transport. If you do this on high ground, success rates increase dramatically. I have been doing this on suicide and up already. Believe in the process, and democracy will be delivered fellow citizen

    • Both are valid startegies, but the diversionary one I think is more foolproof. All the other players have to do is stay alive and keep moving, they don't need to kill everything. Whereas you're much more likely to miss some drop pods resulting in a snowballing effect where you just can't recover from.

  • I Posted this somewhere and its pretty much the same thing but refined to make it as easy farming anything else someone told me to make a video but I'm not like that, so I'm just putting this with your video hope it helps. :) My hopes in making this is to make those double defend and retrieve essential personnel combo missions completely attainable for everyone so players who hit quickplay aren't solely getting into lobbies with ONLY farming and we can actively add to the saving of planet a little more. For those interested any way. It's essentially the same one going around the community but a little refined. Surprisingly, this strategy works with 3-4 teammates not JUST 4 or solo. To start, you must spawn away from the point but not too far almost a middle point between the edge of the map and the Objective area. Like usual 2-3 teammates distract and 2-1 teammates rescue civilians respectively. Now the teammate(s) that are saving, the civilians come out in waves of 3 when you hit a button for civilians #16 #17 and #18 ALL PLAYERS MUST LEAVE THE OBJ AREA IMMEDIATELY. That button every time you hit it to those number of civilians triggers a drop ship event very very soon after just enough time for to leave and for it to NOT trigger. Run back and there will be a patrol. It is important to wipe the patrol in less than 15-20 seconds or the drop ship event will begin and you will have to defend against tanks and everything. Do note that if you mess up and leave the area to despawn everything inside, ( which is caused by distance from those enemies and how many enemies are on your teammates). Tanks and hulks will not despawn in enough time and will have to be taken care of in that 15-20 second window but that would only happen if you caused a dropship event. Bots will occasionally trickle in, just make sure not too many get in the area at once and you'll be fine. Simply Rinse and repeat leaving after the button and coming back and killing the patrol in that window and its super easy. This guide may seem complicated but it really is only keeping certain things in our minds while doing the normal known strategy. Hope this helps people move on from only farming, the implications of it make me pretty sad... Notes: -It is very important that the distractors not all be dead at the same time. And stay away from the OBJ. Probably go get samples if you want. - Civvie Saviors - Bring things to kill a patrol with quickly that ISN'T a stratagem as stratagems have a possibility of alerting nearby patrols and causing a dropship event. - The Railgun on unsafe if mastered is the best gun in the game for survival. - The saving civvies role is the easiest but probably the highest pressure role. Its simple but little room for error but once we learn to keep all these things in mind its as easy as farming the mortar missions And you'll get even more rewards including saving planets while farming.

  • I'm calling it. This is a cheese tactic. A useful one, a necessary one, and I'm definitely keeping it in mind, but no one can convince me that this isn't cheesing. If you need proof, All you got to do is ask yourself is "would Bungie patch something like this out?" ... The answer is YES.

    • It's not cheese if it's how the mission is meant to be played. Why would they give us a huge map and only 15 minutes to complete it? The answer is that it's supposed to be hard as balls and requiring more thought and effort than just "shoot everything"

  • Oh my gooood I knew it!!! I figured this exact tactic out because I found it odd how there's a relatively huge map for a stationary mission, and how they drop so many hulks and tanks onto it. I also figured out how bots drop only to an approximate or earlier position to where they spot you so in theory the only agro necessary is the distraction ppl being seen and maybe shooting a little. That being said, it should actually be super fun fighting the waves without having to worry about scientists!

  • 1 person to run, 2 people team to operate a recoilless, shoot down dropships, have sentries in their loadout. and last guy has orbitals and eagles. That worked out for us.

  • Good strategy if you are on a team that is communicating. I've never been in a lobby with people using microphones. Kinda hard to orchestrate this tactic with silence.

  • This is how this mission works without too many problems, unfortunately many players tend to defend directly in the base. I always start the mission with high expectations but quickly realize that it was a mistake. Maybe smoke bombardment and the emp mortar is a solution to fight within the base.

  • i feel like this is ultimately a workable workaround for a mission whose design is ultimately somewhat flawed. like, why do they spawn essentially ON TOP of you? you have so much map to work with, so why dont they spawn further away? Then again, maybe this is WHY the map is seemingly bigger than it needs to be- maybe they WANT us to do it like this. Again, thanks for this tip.

    • They don't spawn any closer than in the eradication mission. I don't think the design is flawed at all, just that the INTENT of the mission isn't well conveyed to players. Most see a bunch of buildings and immediately think "we need to defend this area so we can free the scientists". If the mission description was more like "Create a diversion so a teammate can rescue the scientists" the idea would catch on much fster.

    • @@Razumen That is a completely inorganic objective that isn't communicated in any way at all. You need to treat the bots as braindead video game AIs in order to even realise this is a viable strategy. The bots are arriving in response to the extraction afterall, why are they ignoring their objective to just pursue helldivers?

Hell, they don't even care about the civilians, they have attack them because they don't care about them. So yes, doing the mission the hard way is what's braindead, and it sounds like you just don't understand the game.

  • I had the same idea, especially when I saw how big the map was. There was a reason the devs gave us such a big map, unlike the eradication mission, and that is that we are supposed to USE the whole map. Unfortunately, people still want to try and raw dog it, which leads to a clusterfuk, even if it seems promising at the start, eventually the bots just snowball to such ridiculous amounts that it's impossible to clear them at the base.

  • People tend to just run around and fight mindlessly..this mission requires a bit more to get through so heres what my group does. 2 people holding the middle (the lane) for civilian travel. 1 person on a door keeping it clear and sending civs through. 1 person w/ railgun sniping heavies. Typically we do 1 door usually and rotate to other doors if the door gets too popular. Usually bringing an eagle smoke is optimal especially for the middle to reduce automaton efficiency. Everyone should bring one orbital laser. It seriously makes a huge difference. Its a simple setup but keeping roles like this really makes the mission easier. We tend to have it rough for 5 minutes and then it gets quiet usually after the 10 minute mark.

  • Ive tried it and its difficult with randoms but we have to do this mission since you there is this one mission in every sector. I did a like a smoke strategy, I had a smoke orbital, smoke eagle, ems mortar to stun and orbital lazer when it got hectic. and we got to like 45. We just could not hit the 50 we needed. It was just too chaotic had like 3 tanks on us. And people left when we still had 5 min left.

  • I’ve played one like this I was the door guy and it worked flawless! I never fired a shot until extraction after objective complete and got lucky enough to never get enemies aware of me. I did throw one sentry Gatling out at very beginning just for added support but other than that I stood completely still lol!

  • This is what I gathered from my only high level success on this mission type. Was only 3 of us. Got overwhelemed fast. Me and my friend ended up running to the outskirts of the mission area and circling the compound kiting the enemies cause it was the only way to survive. The third, a random player who wed done another mission with prior, stayed in the middle to press buttons. He told us that the middle was basically clear and to keep doing what we were doing. It worked and we won and we all excitedly chatted about it afterwards. But Ive had 0 success replicating that strategy, especially with pugs.

  • I think a lot of the frustration from this game mode was the expectation that people had for the mode. Honestly, one look at the map and it does suggest that this tactic is the best one I’ve been exclusively hosting evac missions at Impossible and higher and this works consistently. But I can see how people would find this “boring” (i don’t, I like the feel and intensity of it) If they can fix the time and spawns of it and add a sub objective to keep the distraction team or runner engaged, it can be better!

  • I’ve posted a video today doing something similar with randoms on 8 and didn’t see this until just now. My team got it done by them slowly roaming and keeping a constant aggro while I went to free the scientists. I made use of eagle smoke to break line of site. I’ve had the scientists run alongside tanks inside the smoke without being seen. They didn’t need to for me because hardly any bots dropped.

  • I think it’s an interesting mission. I do like that there are different ways to accomplish this mission. I hope that we get some kind of defend base mission with a strategically placed base with one focal entrance and have to set up turrets mg emplacements and hold the line until some accomplishment. It’s kind of selfish cause I just really love to get on the mg emplacement lol

  • What if you used 2 heavies and 2 stealth? The 2 heavy players make noise, but stay mobile along the maps edge. The 2 stealth players run for the main mission. 1 stealth player runs circles to free scientists, while the 2nd stealth player provides overwatch. Then, if #1 dies, #2 can take over freeing the scientists while #1 makes the long trek back from respawn.

  • Smokes also help alot if you are the solo have the eagle smoke you can cover the civs path to the evac and lure the bots away to either kill them yourself and abuse stealth and just walk back in with the bots none the wiser.

  • I was playing with my brother and one of our friends, my brother said he saw this strategy before and suggested we try it. He went to free the scientists and I stayed on the other side of the map with our friend. It worked somewhat, but my brother ended up fighting more guys on his own than us two. Maybe we didnt have the right stuff, as you said we should bring "loud" things to draw attention. We did complete the mission, but our strategy was not a success lol

When bot drops come when your outside run to facility . When they drop in facility run back outside far away . And repeat . Or you can do it this guys way

  • My setups that work- assuming randos follow the plan,(rare) have most players pack alot of turrets, like 3, the 1 that goes in should have smoke and turrets but if they are quite it doesnt matter. On mediums to low difficultys you can split 2 and 2.

  • I did this mission with my friends and what I noticed as weird as it seems, the bot drops actually spawn close to the host, so when you begin a match make sure the that the host is within the 3 guys fighting the hordes. If you have been struggling because they kept spawning on the objective while most of the group was far from it, try this.

  • The two main issues I have with this mission are the possibility of it being bugged (Briefing says 40 minutes, you only get 15 thus the game thinks you've been in for 25 minutes and ramps up the enemy count, further proven by the fact that the map is a regular sized one and not some small map like the automaton elimination ones) and how no matter how much fire power you have, you will have multiple tanks, rocket devastators, hulks, etc dropped directly onto your location giving you no time to take them out, and even if you do they're replaced before the bodies hit the ground. This mission is the sole reason I don't play defense missions because it's just badly balanced. Hopefully a patch comes by to make these better.

  • Friend, I'm tired of farmers for extermination. but I'll tell you one more thing, smoke bombardment + eagle, you call to the zone where scientists are running and they will run even through crowds of robots (until there are too many of them), an electric mortar allows you to delay robots well. I didn't try it on 9, but on 5-6 difficulties it allowed me to complete missions even with random ones, provided even when everyone was in the area of the task object. for the super-earth, for democracy, for freedom! The one who leaves the mission disgraces his father's cloak

  • For a loud completion. I would say use both mortars, autocannon and orbital laser. For everyone. Two people plant mortars, and the other wait for them to despawn. giving you 100% uptime for 4 mortars at a time. EMS Mortar stalls enemies, and they stay in bigger groups that way, to be taken out by the standard mortars. And larger enemies, are less susceptible to being slowed. So, the orbital will take care of them.

  • The structure of these missions just kind of sucks ; running in the exact same circle hitting buttons hundreds of times just doesn't make any sense. [ also how is saving 30 civilians or Researchers actually helping fend off the invasion? ] Helping SEAF Infantry frontlines, outposts, and or trenches repel enemy's would have been way cooler and sensible IMO. Thoughts?

    • Those researchers were already there doing work, because the system was "Liberated" at one point. But once the invasion started it became necessary for the Helldivers to get those people out. That's just normal military operating procedures. For U.S. Military, if we have civilian personnel stationed abroad and local conflict or war breaks out, we are going to get our people out. It's that simple.

  • Yeah I noticed this happened while playing with a friend. He dropped us far from the objective for some reason so I ran to the scientists. I noticed all the robots spawned at him with all the ruckus he was making while I freed the scientists robot free. Cool strat. But I only play with friends and we like the stress of keeping the robots at bay.

  • This is a nice strategy with bots, but I got mixed results with bugs. My brother and a friend of his ran distraction on the first map we did this. I always use scout armor so I ran to get the scientists. I managed to get 25/30 before a patrol of scavengers showed up to try and ruin the party. Still completed that one fine. The second time we actually failed because a bug breach popped up outside the base before I arrived. It actually popped open in same place twice but the noise of the others didn’t lure them away. Even using stratagems to try and take them out after i had snuck around to opposite side of base didn’t help. The first set of scientists set them off and lured them inside. Time ran out and we all died. We barely got double digits for the scientists in second one.

  • Just so your aware, the reason this works is because enemy spawn events can only happen at one place at a time. The patrols also generally won't cause a spawn event if there already is one far away. This way of doing the mission is not intentional, and honestly the devs need to understand 3 tanks, 5 hulks, and 5 groups of various bots from all sides isn't that fun

  • I learned that the hard way after automatons overwhelmed my team so bad that we had to fall back out of base and while trying to silently come back to the base I noticed all of enemy attention is focused on the rest of my team. But just yesterday I did this mission normal way with only 1 random TWICE, mortar and autogun sentries is the key and it's really helpfull if one guy has orbital laser for when enemies start to overwhelm you to kinda reset all that threat.

  • Works when you have a team that does it. Had 53/60 and two of them decided to get closer and we lost with 57/60. They need to up the time on this mission. It should be a 40 minute mission like it says before you drop. There are a ton of mats on this map also, but you don't have enough time to even explore. One person could release and the other three could explore and get the samples, but the timer is way too short.

    • 40 might be too long. I think the idea behind this mission is that it's supposed to be super intense, like you're evacuating people right at the start of an enemy offensive. Maybe 20-25 would be better, but if they give players' too much time, then I think people won't learn that rawdogging it isn't the best way.

  • I tried to do this solo and it worked to an extent. You really have to time it correctly or else you will get bot drops on the base then they will just camp there. I got 36/60 on helldive but ive seen someone actually beat it altho he also used scorcher to injure himself then stim to regain stamina. I dont have it yet since scorcher is so expensive. Definitely need Jump pack to be mobile and smokes.

  • My two problems: 1: they need to have the defense operations have more variation and not always include a Scientist Rescue. 2: this method goes completely against the spirit of the mission and, in my opinion, this mandates that it needs to get looked into. It is clear that the volume/frequency of enemies is abnormal for the mission duration.

  • I can say i was one of the first to do this on helldive with this strategy a long long time ago. This strategy doesnt seem to work anymore. we had 3 unsuccessful defense extracts on Mantes helldive. We normally have my nephew run in and extract the civilians. This time no matter how much aggro we had outside of the zone. he still got 4 drop ships on him after hitting a few buttons. We simply ran out of time and fail the mission.

This made the mpst sense that you need to make a fire fight squad that draws all of the attention and bot drops. As long as the team of three can keep up the punishment it should work.

  • What sadly need to happen is the devs need a smaller limit to how many enemies can spawn at a time, i believe the limit is around 300 at the moment and on helldive ive seen some seriously wild stuff from the game lagging to around 15 tanks and hulks, it just gets real bad, yes this method does help but you really need to know what your doing to complete this mission right, i mostly just avoid this mission now a days or if im in one i just run for the samples and hide till the mission fails because i need samples more then anything else.

  • Ive beaten this on helldive and let me tell you, there is a much easier way. You see, the drop ships only have a few spawning areas,thereforeall your team needs to do is manage these areas away from the scientists. If done right, it leaves 1 or 2 buttons completely bot free.

  • I'm tired of hearing people complain about these missions and acting like there shouldn't be enemies constantly spawning. If there were no enemies here it would be a cake walk lol. Smokes are more effective than people are giving them credit for. It really feels like no one even knows they exist tbh. EMS mortar very good. Both of these are great at creating space, you just need to get the smokes between you and the enemy. Recoilless rifle can one shot drop ships and even w the slow reload you'll be ready for the next ship. Balistic shield makes the stray bullets a non issue, and if you're okay with using the SMG then it's a great match, though someone else will need to bring the recoilless, or at least carry the backpack (not very viable here). It's all about changing tactics. When everyone is stuck up on rail gun 'meta' it's no wonder people struggle with this so much.
