I understood VERY well how lucky I was to be there. Sleeping in a flooded tent. Stood in the middle of the field on an upturned oil drum with my best mates and a yellow waterproof shielding us from the rain. We knew then we were a part of history and have dined out on the experience every since 👌🏻

We were at Reading in 1990 too which was a scorcher, but we saw only a fraction of the bands as we spent the majority of the time stoned on the banks of the Thames, while we kept bottles of white Thunderbird cool in the river. I discovered Nirvana earlier this year. I'm 27 this year and Kurt was already far away when I was born. It's such a shame that we won't be able to hear Nirvana live, but their singing voices have remained on KZhead and are still reaching many people around the world.

I was at this festival, and yes I feel very privileged to have seen Kurt perform this live. I remember feeling like i was being crushed where everyone pushed towards the stage. The air smelt of weed and sweat, but still one of the best things I've experienced in my life.

Notice that he's playing bass without a pick, using only his fingers (rather flawlessly, I might add) -- during the second verse, a bit earlier than 2:40. This must have been unplanned; it was normal for him to use a pick. I have surmised that he must have dropped a pick, and that small dropout that you have astutely noticed at 2:40 must have been the moment when he reached for a backup one.
Kurt was magic, just magic. He knew the perfect times to miss a note here, get the timing wrong there, the way he bent his original records was legendary. RIP .

Can’t believe it was 30 years ago today. I was driving a red karmann ghia from Augusta Ga to Gaffney SC when I heard the news…got a call on my bag phone. Strange days indeed.
