--SMPOST--I took the plunge and upgraded my 49" Samsung G9 to the newer G9 Neo Model. But is it worth the upgrade?

  • So, I bought this monitor and immediately started having problems with my PC (bluescreens, not booting etc). Turns out the 3080ti (I have evga) has a problem with this monitor. Once I updated the cards vbios through precision x1, everything is fixed! Just a heads up for anyone with this problem. :). Pete, great review!

    • Do u ever have wake from sleep issues? The monitor refuses to acknowledge the display port input. I find that it only happens when I lock my computer. I'm on Windows 10, not sure if 11 fixes anything like that.

Nice balance of info and opinion, delivered in a very 'watchable' style: clearly enunciated, efficiently quick but not rushed, well shot and edited video. The equivalent of a writer having a nice prose style. Agree with the other comments about it looking and feeling like a longer-established, better-resourced channel. Keep up the great work. Oh, and Samsung UK... I am definitely going to buy one of these now! 😎

    • Yea I just got my g9 (the original) a few days ago. It's insane tho I went from an ultrawide to this so It wasn't a huge shock but I'm really enjoying it. I notice a very mild flicker very rarely in games but aside from that it's been flawless.

    • I recently bought a G7 4K 28" but will be returning it for a G9 tomorrow morning. I've read the flickering issues have been addressed with updates. I mine works. I bought Horizon: Zero Dawn (again; played it a ton on PS4 and PS5) and it looks incredible even on the G7 without the massive widescreen. Looking forward to trying that one out. I've got an OLED and Elevate soundbar for home theater and PS5 and will have this monster for PC gaming.

  • Nice review! Ended up placing an order for one tonight with my local electronics retailer (Microcener). I had CRG9 before but it suffered a bit from flickering so I've been using the LG 48" OLED TV which has been great but I am missing the "WOW factor" that the super ultrawides give off! I don't think I can swing keeping both, but I think using the Neo G9 on the bottom and stacking the LG TV above it would be the perfect setup!

  • Nice video! How are you able to connect both the PC and Mac at the same time, and get 240 Hz, 120 Hz refresh rates, respectively? As I understand, these both require DisplayPort connection, but there is only one DisplayPort input on the Neo, as you mentioned. Are you having to physically swap the cables at the back of the monitor to switch between the two? That seems like it would be a pain if so. Or, are you using some sort of KVM? If you’re doing that, which one are you using? I’ve found it impossible to find one that supports this resolution at 240 Hz with G-Sync. Thank you!

It’s in the upper left quadrant thought so now my eyes are fixated on it. I Have all other quirks settled out and now, debating an exchange for the pixels. Is this close enough to “hitting the panel lottery” as I should hope to get, and not worth the inconvenience for the exchange effort? Opinions from other owners? Thanks!

  • Hi Pete! Great content! I'm really debating on buying one currently with my Macbook Pro M1 Max. However, I'm afraid that it will lack efficiency. I use lots of screens and would love to be able to fully divide the screens in 3s, 4s, and 5 parts. Is this possible at all with mac? I know there are some softwares out there for this, but do you know if they work well/allow you to really utilize all screen space while not being trapped by the menu bar on the bottom? I need as much height real estate as I can get! Thanks for your time!

  • Thx for the review! You mentioned that even new high end GPUs can struggle to keep up with this monitor. I can't seem to find any benchmarks with the 3080 or 3080ti used specifically with this display. Do you know of any sources that looked at this? I suppose one would have to balance being able to run games at their highest settings vs running them at this resolution...

Samsung say many of the issues with this monitor are solved with their firmware update.....but I can't find a decent video on a step by step on how to do it. If you ever have time I hope you could create one walk us thru how to go about it. I'm not very computer literate an this is one thing holding me back from a purchase.......even with Samsung today discounting it by 500. I have even read that you half to use a specific flash drive.....For me this is intimidating. Thankyou again for your honesty,I would love to have this for flight sim 2020

  • How does this fare in gaming? Obviously I know it's a gaming monitor but I'm curious as to how it performs and also what the options are for games that aren't 21:9 compatible? I take it you could just switch the mode to having the game on the side and just a regular web browser on the other if you wanted?

  • In your Samsung NeoG9 review (which was the BEST i have seen) you mention to get full resolution at 120hz on an M1 Mac mini you used the CalDigit TS3plus and a USBC to display port cable. Do I need the CalDigit TS3 or can i just go USBC to Display port directly from my Mac m1 to the Display?

  • Thinking about “upgrading” to the Neo G9. My question: Desk space…is 24” depth adequate? Understand that from the specs the Set Dimension with Stand (WxHxD) 45.3 x 21.1 x 16.5 in. My desk surface is a built in solid granite up against a wall with 24” depth. So will the center of the monitor be too close using the included stand. Leaning against any wall mounted alternative because there is a window in the area that complicates that option. I don’t want to end up to close to the monitor. Doing some simple calculations, is the center of the monitor approx 7” depth further than the edges at the curve?

  • Bought mine a week ago only paid 1,599.99 U.S. And absolutely love it.. Only thing bad I would say is I am using a Secret labs desk. which I love but the monitor does take up a lot of space. So far I have played Cyberpunk , Age of empires which looks great Waiting on Starfield. I am running it on a RTX 3090 card. Another thing to mention is setting up took a bit but there are plenty of KZhead videos out there to help. Thanks for your video.

  • You mentioned that you can't get higher than 60Hz using HDMI via your Mac or 2080 GPU But had no issues with the new consoles. I'm not entirely sure of the bandwidth limitations of HDMI 2.0 but it's important to consider that all Mac products (including the M1 line) lack HDMI 2.1 and only the current gen NVIDIA and AMD GPUs have HDMI 2.1 ports. I'm assuming that is why you only are getting it to work on the ps5/Xbox series X.

    @kingkong445@kingkong4452 жыл бұрын
    • Certainly a possibility, but he did mention using a CalDigit thunderbolt dock so the M1 was probably connected via thunderbolt and the issue was actually with the HDMI port on the doc, unless if he was using a special HDMI to DisplayPort cable.
