    • You can't house millions of people that keep on arriving, I notice that people aren't talking about the genocide of our culture in these debates. Immigration is a serious issue for the majority of people in the UK. Proportionally, the UK has more migrants than France and our people are suffering due to it. It is National State of Emergency! Especially when there is another 780M people that would like to come to the west. We have to close the borders and put a ban on immigration for ten years.

  • I am a quantity surveyor who has been involved in building over three thousand houses in the past 10 years in London. Some of this house/apartments are labelled "affordable" which is not really the case. In general, out of all the houses/apartments built in the past 10 years, 80% of them are not affordable. So when politicians say we built millions of houses, ask them what percentage is affordable and you would be surprised they don't have a clue

    • Who can afford a house nowadays and I'm in my 30s picking up every shift going and doing 12 hours and weekends and I still can't afford a house. My finances just stay at the same level... the tories know exactly what they are doing. Also a bet property developers get profit from all the houses they are building.

  • Isn't it interesting that this debate is about the LOCAL elections, but 3 out of the 5 debaters are MPs. And it would likely be 5 out of 5 if the Greens and Reform had more than 1 MP each. Why not invite council leaders or even elected mayors, the people directly involved in local politics?

    @rachel.mcgowan@rachel.mcgowan16 күн бұрын
    • Because they probably know that most people vote on national issues and not for local candidates (frankly that's even true for MPs at general elections) and very few people would actually tune in for local councillor debates where as you say the housing minister (I think that's what the Tory bloke was) it's a recognisable title of someone the vast majority of people want to see get a whopping

      @chrisd1982@chrisd198216 күн бұрын
    • @ForbiddenPlanetB I think a big part of the problem though is public interest, most people just don't care about voting because there parents were disenfranchised by politics which they then pass onto the next generation so we've ended up with multiple generations of people who just don't see the point of voting, unfortunately it's only really the poorest in society that feel that way leaving "middle class" upwards to vote meaning even left wing parties have to put forward policies that are more geared towards the rich or they won't get anywhere near votes

Also with immigration - more people come here, either legally or not - more people for the workforce that are forced to take harrowing conditions without Unionism, like that sweat shop in Leicester. It's money on money for them.

    • When they say "illegal immigrants" they mean refugees but there is no such thing as an _illegal_ refugee under International Law. Everyone is legally entitled to claim asylum wherever they like & take any route to get there. If the government re-opened Embassies & Consulates to asylum claims a lot less would arrive here but Tory donors with hotels wouldn't be paid £millions to house them.
