It's like a nicer way of telling each other "we want you to improve on this particular thing in your life", but there's never any drama. (And nobody takes anybody's advice, either, we're stubborn as shit 😆)

    • Was thinking about this too. But actually it's just because they raise us in a different culture than their own. An Asian mother would be just a normal behaving mother in Asia. It would be normal for the teachers if they complain about the grades of their child all the time. Cause every parent would be like that and the teacher would even have the same cultural standing. Immigrant parents just don't behave in the same cultural way and that's what's embarrassing to us. Cause we are raised in this country and already know "the rules" of the culture. What to say and how to say it

  • When I was a kid my parents wouldn’t allow pets, but we would regularly feed the neighbourhood cats. There was an orange cat we called gingy and a black cat called blacky 🤦🏽‍♀️ I can’t imagine what the neighbours thought when we’d call them…

  • I can attest that older asian people like to buy things that are a good deal. My asian mother in law bought my son a t-shirt that said "Who cut a big one." It had a large tree being cut down. She said she bought it because it was a good deal. Needless to say it went into the donate pile. 😅

Our parents were 100X better than today's "woke" parents who will allow a kid going thru a very normal identity episode to take puberty blockers, once used to chemically neuter ppl for eugenics, and even permanently mutilate their bodies.

  • there was a kid in my 6th grade class in 1980...Ari Ekbetani (still remember his name) from Iran. A wild loud brash kid,but so funny. We didn't,as 12 year olds, understand why he was here. We knew there were hostages and turmoi lin Iran but what was Iran? We didn't,couldn't understand the entirety of it. The one girl from Virginia whose Dad was (supposed to be a secret) FBI, claimed to know why Ari was here and that he was probably very rich. Ari was in our 7th grade student body but gone after half a year.
