I hope you reported that to the police. In a rural area like that the police can get a geofence warrant and can shortlist the suspects incredibly quickly. Criminals like that cannot detach from their phones even when they are committing crimes. Some of them drive newer cars/trucks that have sim cards in them.
I reported it to the local sheriff - they felt it would be tough to pin down who fired the shot, but at least they know now to keep an eye out in case it happens to someone else.
It’s Idaho , I’ve been in bars there where guns go off and everyone laughs.
@@mikekuczynski1552 Well, if a tree falls in the form of a bullet in the middle of a forest and the law enforcement didn't hear about it, is it a felony? In Idaho negligent discharge of a gun is a crime. If it is done in a crowded bar, it can even be considered gross negligence or willful discharge and be escalated to felony.
@@user-jo1yk4kd9j I’m sure it is , but I can tell from experience in Orofino it’s funny . I asked the question, does everyone in Idaho carry a gun ? The answer was no , they carry two . When I asked about carrying a gun in the bar while your drinking if that was legal? Again they all laughed and said nobody cares . Just saying ,and I’ve spent lots of time in Idaho or at least from Lewiston north . I’ve never had a problem , it’s just something to be aware of .
@@FlyFishDanthey didn't even try to investigate your claim with video and audio evidence? Thats bullshit.
Just be careful!! Some of those land owners in not only Idaho, but even in Eastern Washington think they can take aim at another human being who they perceive is trespassing on “their property”. I know there’s some really scenic and beautiful streams out that way, but I don’t understand how another person can feel they have the right to shoot at another person just for trying to cast a line to catch a fish. These are the same people who feel they don’t have to purchase a fishing license as long as they don’t step off of, “their property”. Crazy 🌎 we live in.
Indeed - glad the universe had my back on this day for sure.
Absolutely!!! My father when he was still living owned property which had one of the tributaries of the Snake River running through it. Consequently, many would ask him for permission to fish there (which is all well and good). But every so often, sometimes people would show up unannounced like the three Rural Area Electric boys who came after dark to retrieve their truck. This turned out to be a complete mess, but I told him afterwards that just because they didn’t call before coming over, that didn’t give him the right to meet them on the other side of the barn with a 20 gage shotgun. That aside, there are certain apps and websites like OnX which can tell you if you’re on public or private property. If you’re like me and enjoy exploring, that’s another aspect which makes fly fishing fun. But at the same time, it might be worth looking into these websites and what they cost just to keep from ending up taking a bullet fired from, “Farmer Brown”.
@@m.h.english4773 I used to think like you guys. Then I found out about mentally ill people, sociopaths, psychopaths, and other than fall near them. I don't want to play guessing games everyday someone comes onto my property. Even what you would consider safe people still liter, don't respect you or property, and have terrible attitude. There is the reason why you buy and own land. If you want to open your land up to the public though. Have fun!
Lived in Boise and fished rivers in Idaho for over 30 years. One river I purposely avoided was the Big Lost because it's about the only one where so much of the land around it is private property. Technically you're not trespassing if you stay beneath the high water mark but unfortunately some of the landowners don't always see it that way. Luckily there's literally hundreds of miles of other rivers with plenty of public access especially along highway 20.
I think I’ll avoid that river on the next trip out myself - crazy stuff. Thanks for sharing!
Words are indescribable of what I just watched! I had to replay that part 5x just to grasp it. I’m soooo glad you’re ok Dan - My God - WOW!! 🤯 I remember one time when I was downrigging for salmon on Georgian Bay in Southwestern Ontario Canada my father and I had a boat go by us close enough that we could see the rifles being pointed at us! That was scary enough as a 10 year old…. Being shot at…. While Fishing!!! Words escape me!!!
It was not an ideal situation for sure - hopefully the last time I’ll have to deal with that!
Glad you are alright. Stay safe out there everyone.
Thanks! Universe had my back on this day for sure. Wear something orange is the message for sure.
Glad you are safe, keep the videos coming.
Thanks Ryan - I'd be happy to never experience that again for sure!
Sketchy! Glad you are ok and got into some fish as well!
All in all a good day, minus the close call with the bullet!
Thank you for sharing your Idaho trip. Good stuff.
You bet
Years ago, while fishing the Skagit near Concrete, my pal and I were standing on a gravel bar and some dopey teenager with @ .22 started to concentrate fire at a Great Blue Heron as it flapped overhead from the high bank across and above us. When we heard a couple of rounds give us the “bumblebee buzz” (a sound you never forget!) we started screaming and the fire subsided. You can’t be too careful in the country!!! 💀💀💀💀💀
Geez - what a knuckle head. I’m all for hunting - but randomly shooting at a Great Blue Heron is just irritating to hear
Was this near Fabers? A friend and I had to yell at some locals while floating once. They were shooting from their house at a line of targets with the river and Hwy 20 on the other side of the targets.🤦♂️
While bass fishing from our kayaks in lake Kapowsin near the sure some dopes inadvertently sent rounds through the brush into the water just a few feet from us. They did it just as the Sheriffs Department was coming to see if we had life jackets. They called State, who came down the Trail and caught them. They said they didn't want to go up there themselves because they didn't have bulletproof vests on and they were shooting wildly.
Concrete is a mess.
Glad you safe! I had people duck hunting around me. Same thing I got out of there. Guns and fishing poles don’t mix.
Thanks - I'd certainly like to avoid something like this in the future.
I had to reglue the reel seat on my Sage too. It’s the most expensive rod I own and the only one I’ve ever had to fix that way.
To Sage's credit, they reached out to me after watching the video and offered a quick repair...but I had already fixed it with epoxy. Cool they reached out personally tho...
I call the early releases “LDR” for Long Distance Releases”… as though I’d planned it that way!
I was one fish away from the grand slam on the Yakima the other day. I would consider the grand slam just four different species, so all we needed was a white fish and we would have had it!
Rainbow, cutthroat, cuttbow, and whitefish?
Dang - almost had it!
Did you ever hear a shot? If it was really far away it might have been an accident. Or it was shot from a gun supressed and probably subsonic loads. So it was more than likely on purpose
Never heard the report of a gun - so either far away or suppressed. Not ideal for sure!
Gots to love fishing in ID. Just needed to land a brown :-) Good ad for Sage rods. The only rods I use! BTW - bullet thing is a WTF?
Certainly made for a memorable trip! :))
Stay safe, that was an eye opener. Well nice fishing. Why not use the new rods?
Thanks! I was a bit rattled for sure. I felt it was time to dust off the Sage on this trip :))
Sounded behind you and hit the trees towards the car also seemed suppressed. So unfortunate
It is a sound that you never forget. Worst, is being woken up by someone shooting at you.
I'd like to never experience that again for sure!
What do you do for work?
Sent you a pm
What’s the best fly fishing river in Colorado for trout and salmon
There are so many to choose from; I would recommend consulting your local fly shop. They are very helpful if you spend a little money while in their shops.
FFD, WOW and WTH?! Didn't hear the crack of a shot being fired, so I wonder where / how that happened?! Looks like you were well south of me, but no excuse for enduring that. Heading upstream later this morning and while I'll have my revolver firmly on my chest, I'll equally hope it stays there all day. ☮ from Idaho, brother.
It was pretty nuts for sure! I was much farther south on this day...no report of a rifle, so it was either suppressed or from a long distance off. I'd like to think it was just a random thing rather than purposeful. Have a great day today upstream!
You never hear the one that gets you, bullets travel faster than the speed of sound.
@FlyFishDan I was wondering if you heard a report. The bullet sounded slow to me, like it was wobbling in flight from a soft ricochet. I hope it makes you feel better that there is credence to the thought that it was not intentional.
Were you able to figure out where it came from? Looked like pretty open country where you could see quite a ways in any direction. Also what do you do for work?
It was very open country - after the bullet zipped by my head, I didn't want to stick around and find out, so I quickly exited. Crazy stuff!
Sorry to hear about the shot. What happened with the fly rod?
Thanks! The bottom of the reel seat, not enough or bad glue, metal portion snapped free when I tightened the reel. Same exact thing happened to Koby’s 3wt R8. We used some epoxy this weekend and put it back in place.
Thanks
I wonder if it was intentional or just stray fire from someone shooting in the area?
I'd like to think it wasn't intentional and just someone being careless
What happened to the FFD rods?
Still plugging right along - it was time to dust off some of the others :))
Glad you are OK FFD. Man, what some KZhead guys will do to stifle the competition! Seriously I do hope that was just a random thing BUT nobody should be firing a rifle that near a road and waterway. Poor gun safety at best. And...Idaho. There are good people there and other kinds aplenty.
Thanks Dave - too close for comfort for sure. Let's hope it was just a random thing vs. purposeful. All the same, glad the universe had my back on this day for sure! And I still love Idaho :))
Do you carry in case someone shoots at you? I do. I was away from my camper stealheading and upon my return I found two guys trying to brake into my camper. I put my hand under my coat and confronted one of them. I convinced him I was armed and they ran. I carry now. There are bad people out there.
I do typically - people can certainly get a little nuts
Glad you didn't get pew pew'd! Another nice little video =) #FISHON #FISHON_ANDDONTGETPEWPEWD
I am glad I did not get pew'd on this day for sure!
That could have easily been from someone that didn’t know you were there
Honestly, to me, it sounded like a stray round. Subsonic, which for most rounds is past a few hundred yards. So it could have been someone a 1/2 mile or so out that was trying to get something and completely aired it thinking that "its wide open, there isnt anything there, so i should be ok." So i dont think they were doing it intentionally, but there is always a chance.
My thoughts too - thanks for weighing in!
I know that part of Idaho well public lands doesn’t grant water rights approaching private property Indian reservation landowners always ask first before you start walking down rivers also bear season and turkeys are plentiful in the area so you could encounter with another turkey hunter and didn’t even know it.
Idaho's state constitution talks about that no one, anywhere in Idaho can own the riverbed.
Happened to me , bullets whizzing over my head and I now wear an orange backpack for that reason - that was years ago and I still think about it all the time - some folks really are foolish
I just bought an orange beanie as well...just in case I was mistaken for a bear..
@@FlyFishDan Easier than shaving.🤣 Cheers from Australia. Great channel. PP
Wow Dan. So scary.
Pretty scary moment for sure - I hope you are well Rosie!
Keep your head on a swivel Dan! Haha yikes … sage rods are unbelievable to fish but their quality really went down hill .. also their warranty/customer service is among the worst in fly fishing.
An orange beanie is in my future for sure :)). I’m a such a huge Sage fan, however I was certainly bummed about my brand new R8 reel seat failure. Got er all fixed up though - just used a little epoxy, should be as good as new
@@FlyFishDan I am too, I hope they get their customer service sorted out, until then I’ll be fishing other brands
wow
Pretty crazy stuff
My guess is that it was a stray bullet, most people should have enough sense not to shoot people who are not even on their property. There also was no gunshot that I heard in the audio. Still, some people are not responsible with their firearms...... Thank God you're safe!
Way too close for sure - I'd go there again...but I wasn't going to stick around on this day
I'm not surprised if someone did it intentionally in Idaho. Was there in 2020 for a couple months and spent time around central Idaho. Four different situations while fishing from people who didn't want to see me fishing the places I was. Diffused every situation by staying humble. But good grief, talk about territorial.
People can get a little nuts over a fishing spot for sure
I doubt anyone actually shot at you. That being said, it is irresponsible for someone to shoot without confirming a back stop and shooting toward a river! I live along a river that in fall accomodates many hunters, not to mention the gopher getters in the spring. I hear gun shots frequently. Recently confronted an out of state guy that was gopher hunting and shooting toward the creek. Dont blame you for packing up and leaving!
I'd like to think someone wasn't shooting at me either - likely just as you said...but wasn't going to stick around and find out
Have had a couple of rods come apart like yours , a Sage and a Winston. Kind of a bummer when you hear rounds wizzing by you for no reason. Be careful there it’s a thats mine and guns culture .
I’ve repaired the Sage - hopefully it will stay together for a bit. Not ideal at all being shot at - no thanks!!
isnt shooting at somone like illegal?
Totally - my hope was that it wasn't purposeful, and just a random accident. Either way, pretty careless!
Apparently not for Good ole Boys in the bad, mad USA. Thank god I live in sane Australia.
Did you know, that in Commiefornia, if you're fishing with a valid fishing license, you can actually carry while fishing, but you'd better actually be fishing.
Becareful, you can't carry everywhere. National Forest, you can carry; however, there are other areas where you can't carry. Technically they say the walk in and walk out you cannot carry loaded. Most of CA is looking to put law abiding gun owners in jail, so becareful.
Whoever did that is a total coward
Hopefully it wasn’t purposeful and just someone being careless
My guess is that it wasn’t on purpose. Someone was out target shooting or something and didn’t see him down there.
Yawn 🥱
Kinda rude BOB…Lol
I’m a loyal fan of GLoomis GLX have 7 of them, to go along with 7 LOOP reels.
I have a GLoomis NPX and the line sings through the guides...kind of a weird thing that only happens with this rod
Anything for likes....but good try.
Try not to be ‘that guy’…it’s a video of an experience on KZhead. Be a better human vs. a typical internet troll
@@FlyFishDan the one who doesn't fall for things easy,I'm him everyday.
All good - thanks for watching
@@fuxu247 It has happened to me. Trolling are you?
@@Skedawg88 probably because your a trespassing pos
I hope hope you reported that to the county sheriff. You have video evidence. They might have an idea who would be crazy enough to do something like that. If not, they need to start looking.
Thanks Captain Mike - I did report the incident the local sheriff a couple of days afterwards, they said they would check it out, but likely would be impossible to catch the person randomly shooting. My hope is that is was just a random thing, and not purposeful.
