"The more a society drifts from the truth, the more they hate the ones who speak it"- George Orwell.

Being truthful is your first, best shot at being unpopular.
Maher speaks out on one or two issues the left completely distorts for power but ignores all the countless others. He is still a useful idiot until he starts speaking the truth on all subjects. He has massive influence as I see in my own family, he has turned so many families against each other with his crazed Trump derangement syndrome.

True!!
“I don’t want politics mixed in with my medical decisions” yes.
Politics is mixed in with everything and always has been unfortunately. Whether it's science, sport, academia, religion etc. Let's not be naive here.
I agree!
That includes the right to choose.
Hmmm. I think I need to have healthcare first, before I can agree with this statement.
Ruh roh.. the very act of harming others for individual gain and likeness is individualistic and individualism sources conservatism. Caring for others is collective ie liberal. You see, teachers, farmers and healers being the holy trinity of liberalism, is it no wonder that conservatives are anti education, anti environment, and anti healthcare? Hit me 🤗
"Those are just facts! I know it's irresponsible of me to say them" Nailed it!
I'm relatively conservative but I really appreciate how real Bill is. Even when I disagree with him - and I often do - he always tries to be as objective as possible.
And admit his party is fallible
I think a lot of people who don't necessarily mesh with either side (like me) tend to gravitate towards Bill. I'm on the left, but the DNC is a joke that I can't get behind (the entire two party system is, really)
Bill is a liberal but he’s not a PROGRESSIVE/LEFTIST . I’ve respected him for years for that
It's the difference between being a polarized sheep and a pragmatic realist. Most of us all want the same thing really when it boils down to it, but it's the politicians, media, and their like that are twisting the majority of people into thinking outrageous lies are truth. We need a new party of centrists, collected from the rational ends of the parties, to run this country with a brain-first mentality.
@@drpfaff and so many leftists are now (unironically) calling him a "rightwing conservative" for saying "defund the police" is stupid, as is CRT.
"If you lie to people, even for a very good cause, you lose their trust." Thanks for speaking truth to power.
And then he uses the lie that overweight and obese are the same thing.
@@ian1352 He also left out that most people who died of Covid were Vitamin D deficient. Older people tend to be more Vitamin D deficient & also fatter. Younger obese & dark skinned people also tend to be more Vitamin D deficient. When fat people go outside and try to exercise, they get attacked & harassed. Also, all those starvation diets that don't work tend to make you both fatter and malnourished. People with dark skin tend to absorb less Vitamin D from the sun, which is why northerners have fair skin . (People near the equator need darker skin to protect them from stronger sun.) pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33260798/
That’s not entirely true about the vitamin D absorption through the skin. 80% of vitamin D absorption is through the eyes. That’s why so many are D deficient, they wear sun glasses most of the day light.
Bill is the one misleading you. He's an idiot.
as a Floridian, I have to wonder what the fuck Bill is talking about yes, DeSantis gave priority to seniors; but he also gave preferential treatment to wealthier senior communities that happened to be home to major Republican donors it was good that he allowed Publix to become a major vaccination center -- but why didn't he give that same treatment to Wal-Mart or Winn-Dixie? Is it because Publix donated to him more than the other major super markets? also, the beach alone is not the problem -- it's when thousands of drunken assholes are crammed shoulder-to-shoulder that it becomes a problem DeSantis signed executive orders making it ILLEGAL for any county or city government to enforce any health & safety mandates; he sent a SWAT team to raid the home of a woman (and terrify her children) when her only "crime" was allegedly texting lawmakers that DeSantis was suppressing the true numbers of COVID deaths it's easy to say DeSantis is "pro-science" when his predecessor was so anti-science that he could've been a villain on Captain Planet
"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act" George Orwell.
True, but not Orwell
Bingo. It baffles my mind that the very sector, big pharma, that so many distrust, is the same that is pushing the need by the average person (incredibly low risk to covid19) to take an experimental, rushed vaccine. People do not even know, because they are not being informed, that the vaccines have ONLY received EMERGENCY USE AUTHORIZATION or that the mRNA vaccines has never been successfully proven in the past. It boggles my mind the amount of misinformation/propaganda and the number of sheep who virtuously clamor for it....or even worse...demand that others fall in line.
Maher gets it mostly right, good job. But he still has a TDS blind spot. As he rails against media spin, he falls for it himself when it comes to 45.
Is that really the case here? About the two party interest in continual war, and their refusal to join the industrialized world and guarantee healthcare, yes. On this stuff? No.
Amazingly the media doesn't understand bedrock truths about free speech. They think that "misinformation" is driving distrust, but it's actually their censorship of "misinformation" that makes people distrustful. I can decide for myself.
I’ve really started to appreciate Bill. He’s not afraid to call out BS on both sides. Man do we ever need that.

I agree about the obesity problem in our country. I lost 30 pounds during the pandemic, I gave up sugar and processed food. It’s that easy. No extra exercise, less even. I wanted to make myself healthier in case I got COVID, when you eat dark leafy greens, you don’t miss sweets that much.
ABQ, I've been saying that for years! If people would eat enough vegetables every day, they will stop craving sweets. I NEVER go a day without eating lots of vegetables because I really love doing that and the results are not bad either.

@@destroybabylonsystem6854 Hydrogenated fats and inflammation being the cause of so many of our woes is the modern day equivalent of the super power of antioxidants. There is no real scientific basis for any of that, mostly just some loud yelling and scientific misinterpretation.
The thing I really like and respect about Bill is that he doesn't toe the party line. He's a liberal, but he thinks for himself.
Which is what a liberal is supposed to do. The hive mind is a leftist thing not a liberal one.
I think he plays it safe, but he does say the uncomfortable truth that leftists need to hear from time to time.
I wonder if Bill, only talks the liberal line because his audience demands it.
He can let his guests be more the compensate for how he is, and tow more the party line. That's brilliant if that's what he's doing. I tend to love the one on one guest interviews before he goes to the panel. He should replace Larry King on CNN. He'd be perfect for that. They're like lost orphans without Larry King. However I was watching a little bit of an interview with Netanyahu, and I don't know the name of the journalist doing the interview and he was good. That's more "Sixty Minutes" style, Bill Maher would be great to replace Larry King, and actually even better because of his humor if wants to add any to the interviews. Bill Maher isn't always the funny guy, in everything he's done in his life. He's been invited to do plenty of very serious intellectual group discussions. I tend to put myself in different types of shoes, so now its as if an executive at CNN. Maybe he'd be a lot in Atlanta, Georgia, if that's still CNN headquarters. Lots of liberals. Plenty to feel at home, and the weather is pretty decent. Georgia is a beautiful state if out of the big cities, because even beautiful historical Savannah was having too many crime problems. Used to be considered an extremely desirable state to move to. There's something about Savannah that just fall in love with it immediately, but it's got The Old South type of creepy gothic something to it all, mainly because make it be that way for tourism, but also has the architectural beauty and style, and true class old school Old South gentry to it all. It's probably all liberal too for the most part, even if visually conservative. How not? It's Old South. It's gorgeous. That's why I used to take guests from Spain, because it's a very unknown original beautiful US historical city for Spaniards. They're usually surprised that anything like it exists. I repeatedly stayed at a B&B nearest to The Forrest Gump film bench and park. As if meant to be since the first time. The ghosts there love me. Are helpful and calm, very at peace when I'm there. Know by now that always have to mentally go there with my stuff. 🙃 Probably very eternally trademarked. Understand that? I'd think so.

Travel. Plenty of counties have just as bad food and obesity issues. And in fact, a Stanford study suggests we have over estimated the obesity number by 30 million as BMI was never meant to measure a populations obesity. The guy who came up with it 100+ years ago warned about his formula being used that way. Everyone knows it is just as much garbage as daylight savings time but we never get rid of our well intentioned garbage. That would take political will from our spinless politicians. I more think it is the fact that people don't move as much as they used to and eat too much. I mean I've watched salarymen in Japan work 12 hour days only to go and buy fried fast food and drink beer EVERY night. But the portions are smaller and they are moving more than your average Westerner. Of course that lifestyle where they then sleep in cubbyholes in hotels instead of going home to their family leads to Japan having an epidemic of suicide.
Yeah, however in North America (including Canada in there) and Europe you have the ability to leave your home, in China that was difficult to do, considering the doors to people’s homes and apartments were *welded* shut. On “Married with Children” Al Bundy said “A Man’s home is his coffin” In China a family home became a coffin literally and figuratively.
Many sacrificed the truth to defeat Trump. Next you will learn that the PCR/Covid19 tests are wildly inaccurate resulting in erroneous COVID19 death numbers. If the average age of COVID19 death is 77 (CDC) then pneumonia, flu and bronchitis deaths (common in that age group) were likely added to COVID19 deaths if they falsely popped positive. The sheep, especially the left who still trust main stream media, will be hard to convince that they have all been tricked. It is more likely that the population will separate reality in order to avoid facing that fact. The virus is real, the narrative is a hoax. Free thinkers have known this since at least June of last year when CDC data started rolling in. The question: why has the medical system played along? I know that big tech has censored doctors/specialists who challenged the narrative, but why don't medical workers inform their own patients first hand???A partial answer: some of the medical workers, especially those who worship the 'authority' or 'authoritative' position, have themselves, been lulled into a lie. Sad. Meanwhile, China, the origin of the virus, had its people back to work and school April of last year. They were the only major nation to grow their GDP last year. Think upon this these facts.

Biggest load of horseshit. Bill doesn't seem to understand and repeats the right wing ignorance, that somehow Fauci and others were "wrong" in suggesting certain precautions early on in the pandemic. How about I put in this way...WHEN A MYSTERY NOVEL VIRUS STARTS SPREADING THROUGH THE WORLD KILLING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS BASED ON HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE OF PREVIOUS SIMILAR PANDEMICS. In other words, when you don't have enough information (given that you can't because it's a new virus) you proceed with caution and use past experience to suggest precautions. This doesn't make you "wrong" if later you learn more about a virus and find that those precautions weren't needed. Republicans and Bill aren't clairvoyant. They were equally wrong about a lot of stuff about the pandemic and they suffered for it. So many didn't want to wear masks and still don't and they are still dying right and left because of it and I say, good riddance. Oh and also, it really grates on my nerves to hear DeSantis, who is equally as criminal in his response to the pandemic as Cuomo, being praised for his covid response. I think he's actually much worse because while Cuomo was instituting logical response in most senses, DeSantis was trying to open up the economy carelessly. Its really surreal that its sensitive to talk about obesity in America of all places. Here in the nordics doctors straight away warned that obesity and other similar unhealthiness like history of respiratory diseases or chain smoking also was a factor to death rate.
Liberals would rather people die than diet.
@Zuma Zuma fast food isn't cheap
@Zuma Zuma You compensate with more exercise. Use your car less, do more hiking or bicycling. I do understand that might be difficult in city landscape but in more rural or suburban regions theres no excuse. Obesity is not caused by simply crappy food but by the simple fact your body has more energy reserved than it uses. Part of why everyone gets fat without noticing in the US is because the obesity problem is hushed about. Our newspapers remind people to exercise at least once a week. A lot of the development should be in schools where kids should be encouraged to exercise more. Not just buffing up the best sports kids in competitive sports, but healthy exercise lessons in general.
It's not. Americans are constantly warned about being overweight, its repercussions, our diet, and our need for exercise. We are also warned about shaming, bullying, being rude to, and making jokes about overweight people. The major problem is many poorer people don't have decent health care and often eat badly because of poverty and/or family tradition. Many people live in "Food Deserts", usually poorer areas where only small markets with a very limited healthy food choice exist. These markets usually carry few fresh fruits and vegetables if any, but plenty of snacks, overly processed foods, along with lots of sugary drinks. American Covid deaths will have mostly affected the overweight, the middle age to older folks, the poor, and/or a combination of all these.
@@stevyd If americans are constantly warned about being fat, where did the oversight of not linking Covid-deaths to obesity come from? Were you so afraid to offend someone for being fat, that you'd rather accept them dying to a virus? That is crazy and fucked up. Brutal honesty is always more helpful than pleasant lies.

@dorito chips wtf are you talking about?
Actually Maher used a badly designed poll to make his point. "Somebody with covid" can be interpreted in a number of ways. It's perfectly possible that democrats are just more likely to use the scientifically correct interpretation, which is "people who are SICK, caused by the sars-cov-2 virus" of which a large percentage do get hospitalized, while republicans might be interpreting it as "people infected with sars-cov-2", most of whom will be fine and don't need hospitalization. My daughter started losing weight about 18 months ago. We thought it was because she and her brother had moved out and gotten a place together. He cooks, and he likes to eat paleo. So basically, he'd make a giant paleo meal with enough leftovers for her to take to work for lunch, and that meant she wasn't eating fast food anymore. Then she started to get fatigued. She just didn't feel right. But by then, she was too scared to go to the doctor, because she didn't want to catch COVID. We bugged her and bugged her, but she just kept putting it off. "When COVID is over," she said. We told her that I, my husband and her other brother had already had it and it wasn't that big a deal (my husband and I were couch-bound for 4 and 5 days respectively, and my younger son got a rash on his toes), but she still balked all summer long. Then the "second wave" hit, and she was like, "but we're back to no elective procedures, mom." Then in late November, she got COVID (probably from riding public transit to and from work). It was like a severe cold that lasted for 10 days. Her brother caught it from her, but had no symptoms. He quarantined with her for 14 days. After they got the go ahead to reenter public life, we arranged an illegal Christmas dinner at my parents' place. My parents are elderly, but all five of us have had COVID, and my mom offered to pay the $1500/person fines if we got busted. While we were all together, my older son said, "she just drinks water constantly. Like ALL the time. For MONTHS." And that was when I basically held her down and made her go to the doctor. They did some tests, and the next day the doctor calls her and tells her to go straight to emergency. To diagnose diabetes, you need a blood sugar higher than 11.1mmol/dL. Hers was over 29. She was actually on the verge of hyperglycemic coma. After a couple weeks more of tests and assessments (and metformin and insulin), we had a diagnosis. Adult onset Type 1 diabetes. An autoimmune condition that COULD have been mitigated or even reversed by immunosuppressant drugs. Your immune system decides your insulin producing cells are a foreign invader, and it kills them. By the time we caught it, those cells were all dead. So my daughter almost died not because of COVID, but because of the fear of COVID. And she is on insulin for life because she was too scared to go to the doctor way back in March of last year and onward. And even though she had completely out of control diabetes when she did get COVID at age 25, she recovered with chicken soup and OTC meds. All I can say is the media's panic porn has a lot to answer for.
You should check out natural remedies and get her to stop with gluten because it creates inflammation in the body and throws everything out of whack. sourdough is somehow okay because bacteria is good for the body?
