Fighting a taller opponent is usually the most popular topic, and that's because most coaches forget that the tall fighters need guidance too. Just because you start with an advantage, doesn't mean there are things that you can do right or wrong with that advantage.
In this video I dive into a few tips to help you fight shorter fighters, and win in a smart a devastating fashion. '

Usually when these boxing tutorials address how to make up for size advantage or disadvantage they mainly or only discuss how a short guy should fight a tall guy. And let the ignorant public tell it the short guy has no advantages. They think he or she just has to make up for the fact that they're shorter. They don't realize that a short guy's advantage is in close, and low to the ground for body punches, and wrestling. But anyway I hope none of my future taller opponents have seen this video, or will see it.
Truth! Every advantage a taller man has can be turned into a disadvantage. Thanks for sharing and glad you liked the video!
I’m 6’5 170 and I feel super athletic short boxers have to best advantages lol
Being short isn’t really an advantage in wrestling. Being strong is the advantage and it’s easier to put more muscle on a smaller frame. Being long is really good for grappling but often taller guys don’t have the strength to take advantage of their length while grappling
6'5 224lbs passed by here😂
Literally victimising short people 😂
This is suuuuper helpful!! 6"3/1.92m and all the guys I spar with are 5"5-5"9.. that moving laterally is proper. Been trying to find different ways to keep distance with them, but kept, like you said, moving straight back n end up just running out of space.
fighting tips for tall guys are actually rare. Nice video keep it up
This video’s super helpful for me as a beginner, I’m 5’11 and weigh 130 (yes I know I’m working on bulking up), so most of my opponents are like 5’6-5’7. I usually use my height against myself and go low a lot, knowing I shouldn’t.
5'11 and 140 bro. I have a lot of muscle in my upperbody but I guess I just have a narrow frame lol. And chicken legs too...
gotta break that habit stand tall and utilize your jab
@@Srr248do not stand tall you will have worse balance
I love the blooper , I actually started laughing with yall
Oh man... Christmas in January for this 6'5" guy. Awesome video. The hand trap and side step was one I've never seen before and probably my favorite. Good looking out!
😂😂😂 keep it legal!
@@BrawlBrosBoxing 🤣 Absolutely!
@@BrawlBrosBoxing nah i’m about to kick Walters ass yo
Another great video! Lots of things I can use in here. I really need this video! Staying tall, keeping my opponent on the end of my jab, circling and pivoting, and getting them to walk into my power shots. Great fundamentals for me to work on. I can't wait until my gym opens up again. I was supposed to have my first sparring in November, then my gym got locked down a few days before and it hasn't reopened yet :(. I'm dying to get in the ring and actually apply the things I've been learning against somebody. Anyone near Toronto canada wanna spar in my garage? 🤣
Thanks man!! Definitely practice them even if it’s by yourself. If you can get a training buddy even better. Someone spar this man! 😂
Thanks guys. I’m 6’7 and just started boxing 1 month ago. This is amazing
Would love to see a match with a 6'7 boxer
Great strategy, very well presented. You guys made me laugh! Thank you both for your time.
Thank you William!
Amazing video, everything explained perfectly!!
Wonderful video bro, thanks a lot, I’m 6’7 and recently started boxing this will be my basis
Fighting tall you just have to know how to work your distance and keep your jab working

Bro I’m literally 6’6 😂 this the video I been looking for
Keep up the good work
Thank you man!
Great advice especially the turning I feel not enough coaches stress turning for tall fighters but man I can’t lie I would for once like for someone to teach a tall fighter how to be an aggressive fighter like Fundora lol it gets so irritating having to run from shorter guys
This is such a big help from me, i'm 1,73 cm, and most partners on my mma classes are way too small for me, now I have more confidence on my striking
Ur Not tall bruh I'm 1,88 thats tall.but maybe people in it country are shorter and ur tall for their standarts
@@nichtderjeniche5418 is 182 cm tall ?
@@nichtderjeniche5418 Bro you think 1,88 is tall? Im 2.12, my country's average is 3 meters

Great video! Where is your gym?
I'm 6'2 and my lil bruv 5'8. We fought our whole childhood and he def taught me a thing or 2 about fighting short guys who not scary.... even of getting hit
i have a 5'3 friend who teach me how to box but he always waits for me to attack and wait for counter openings, I'm 5'8 and after watching this video i finally know how to control distance and show no aggression, will try this tomorrow we will spar wish me luck
Want teach some to my 10yo pup, who is 5.4ish and bully is 3/4, so this came at handy.
Testing daily’s Classify Giga
As 6ft3 I need this
I understand when he talks about using your reach I'm 6-foot 4 myself I never want to use my full reach you lose power in your punches when you stretch to a full reach you should hold back maybe an inch or two you will keep a lot of the power and have a stiffer job and straight
I came here for revenge I am 15 and got into home training My cousin who is 30 and a boxer for nearly 3 years beat the shit out of me
Did you get revenge lol
@@scotland2256 nah shit Nope
I'm not really a short guy, but damn kids nowadays are getting taller so I will be a short guy in the future for sure, so this is why I'm here.
How tall are you
Being 6’3 195 learning your reach is the most important thing, you understand when you’re gonna set yourself or the other guy up. Takes longer to reset with long limbs always moving AND not standing straight up helps too
Hey ! a very good video. I have a question, can I be an outboxer/counterpuncher as the shorter guy ? Or all shorter guys can do is just going forward being aggressive?
You absolutely can, I talk about it in this video: kzhead.info/sun/gLtxiduvjKaEi6c/bejne.html its called the backfoot bait.
You can also check out this article: brawlbros.com/how-to-fight-someone-who-is-taller-and-has-longer-reach-in-boxing/
I’m 6’2 and I’m mad I can’t utilize the peekaboo style smh I’m more comfortable squared off then orthodox
This video just saved me bro I’m 6’5 and I was finna walk in da gym doing peekaboo
Haha glad to hear it brother!
Awesome content bro
Is keeping your rear foot raised good to fight using your reach
When the pressure Fighter come forward what you look to timing? The movement of the head or the feet? Thanks a lot
6’5” and more of a weightlifter, but learning boxing. This was super interesting thank you sensei 🙏🏻
I'm 6 foot I need this lesson in how to avoid a short guys attack
A question for you coach :) What i Have to do if my opponent is shorter than me but he has a longer reach? What stance you suggest? Thanks so much
It's a lot of the same tips you would employ in fighting a taller fighter, I have a video on that as well. Buf if you're taller, use your height anyway, depending on the the discrepancy in reach, you may have to come on the inside more than usual but for that to be the case they'd have to have much longer arms than you. Use your height for defense, slip to the inside for offense or try to bait them into shot.
Any changes to fight tall in mma instead of boxing?
canelo should’ve watched this before he faight bivol
As a tall guy is it bad idea to try and duck and roll under a pinch?
Yes
Lomachenko
Shoulda got someone who knows what they’re doin to demonstrate cause yea..
How do you catch a fast shorter guy
timing is the only thing that negates speed
8:59
Man be aware of sound quality next time
Will fighting tall not expose your body?
Fight tall on the outside not on the inside
The tall guy here is too light on his back foot when he's showing how to throw a jab from range, he's committed his whole body to the jab and you can see his full weight shift to the front when his heel leaves the floor. When that happens his elbow on his right pops up and leaves his ribs and liver exposed. If you want to avoid, throw lighter jabs that don't require you to commit as much and bait the little guy out, while still protecting the body from the nasty right counter hook to your ribs... cos that sh** hurts man 😅
Alr I made my coach mad for this lol idk but I have a habit of kicking my opponent lol say for e.g mah opponent is close I just give a little kick idk if that's illegal but he was mad when I did that I did good jabs and combos but I always kick the bro cuz I have anxiety lol
🫵😊
If you're 5'7 your arms must be about 5' 😉
😂😂
6’1 is tall?
Compared to the coach who is 5’7 yeah
don't listen that 💩💩💩
