Fighting a taller opponent is usually the most popular topic, and that's because most coaches forget that the tall fighters need guidance too. Just because you start with an advantage, doesn't mean there are things that you can do right or wrong with that advantage.
In this video I dive into a few tips to help you fight shorter fighters, and win in a smart a devastating fashion. '

  • Usually when these boxing tutorials address how to make up for size advantage or disadvantage they mainly or only discuss how a short guy should fight a tall guy. And let the ignorant public tell it the short guy has no advantages. They think he or she just has to make up for the fact that they're shorter. They don't realize that a short guy's advantage is in close, and low to the ground for body punches, and wrestling. But anyway I hope none of my future taller opponents have seen this video, or will see it.

    • Being short isn’t really an advantage in wrestling. Being strong is the advantage and it’s easier to put more muscle on a smaller frame. Being long is really good for grappling but often taller guys don’t have the strength to take advantage of their length while grappling

  • This is suuuuper helpful!! 6"3/1.92m and all the guys I spar with are 5"5-5"9.. that moving laterally is proper. Been trying to find different ways to keep distance with them, but kept, like you said, moving straight back n end up just running out of space.

  • This video’s super helpful for me as a beginner, I’m 5’11 and weigh 130 (yes I know I’m working on bulking up), so most of my opponents are like 5’6-5’7. I usually use my height against myself and go low a lot, knowing I shouldn’t.

  • Another great video! Lots of things I can use in here. I really need this video! Staying tall, keeping my opponent on the end of my jab, circling and pivoting, and getting them to walk into my power shots. Great fundamentals for me to work on. I can't wait until my gym opens up again. I was supposed to have my first sparring in November, then my gym got locked down a few days before and it hasn't reopened yet :(. I'm dying to get in the ring and actually apply the things I've been learning against somebody. Anyone near Toronto canada wanna spar in my garage? 🤣

    • It's a lot of the same tips you would employ in fighting a taller fighter, I have a video on that as well. Buf if you're taller, use your height anyway, depending on the the discrepancy in reach, you may have to come on the inside more than usual but for that to be the case they'd have to have much longer arms than you. Use your height for defense, slip to the inside for offense or try to bait them into shot.

    • The tall guy here is too light on his back foot when he's showing how to throw a jab from range, he's committed his whole body to the jab and you can see his full weight shift to the front when his heel leaves the floor. When that happens his elbow on his right pops up and leaves his ribs and liver exposed. If you want to avoid, throw lighter jabs that don't require you to commit as much and bait the little guy out, while still protecting the body from the nasty right counter hook to your ribs... cos that sh** hurts man 😅
