  • Oh my God! The editting is deplorable. But! I love the history that comes with places like this. You know when people say, I wish these wall can talk. Well, here they do. One will never really know everything. It give us a chance to imagine the rest.

    • I had to stop watching after 5 minutes, as it was entirely too distracting. I believe the video was "borrowed," hence the backwards "titles," and the "jumps" may have been necessary to subvert copyright restrictions.

  • I've been watching this documentary on TV. Who ever edited this was ADHD. Flipping the same pictures from the left to right. Words are backwards and forward so you can't read the script and sometimes the audio is not synced with the spoken words. It was very frustrating.

I believe the "jumps" were created due to restrictions in place under the original creator's copywriter, as I have seen this before, presumably in it's original form, and it was far better!

  • What a shame that this Video is damaged. The Stop Starts, where you get little Jerks, unfortunately you lose Audio & in some cases, jumps to other video footage, leaving you wondering what you've missed. Printed Newspapers, signs & even the Bell Board are all shown as negatives, requiring a mirror to read them. There's also a dubbing problem, where in some cases the Earl & Countess are pictured speaking, then straight away you have them saying the same thing but without audio. This Documentary should have been fascinating, but was instead frustrating. Viewed as it would have been originally would have been excellent.

  • I totally enjoyed this documentary, despite the frustrating editing. When I figured out the mirror reversing of this, I just waited for the section, I could read. I’m a stickler for the lip syncing to match the words. When I realized this was not going to happen, I turned my attention to the beautiful visual imaging of the countryside, interior of the castle (which was magnificent)! When the history of the castle was shown, has ANYONE watched old newspaper articles, online of photos with people in them? Photos 100 years ago didn’t have the capacity to print AND reprint ANYTHING with shadows. Those photos of the staff (inside and outside) were flat! No one could really identify people. As technology progressed, the shadows, contrast and brightness; with copying for reprint improved, although slowly. Newspapers especially used the dot matrix technology to copy and print. Those of us who remember in the 60’s the ditto machines, for reproduction for any school project, or tests. I recall those papers with the purple print, and lousy quality. There was another antiquated copying method that was not cost effective. It ran on the technique of a Polaroid. Put the paper to be copied in the hopper, then run a timer on chemically treated paper to be sure the light was creating the proper exposure to be copied. When the timer stopped, we’d be able to remove the paper, and hopefully peel the two pages apart to hopefully get a great reproduction of what needed to be copied. I never could master the pealing as the black part of the one side would not peal, thus sticking to the good page needed. Bless the individual who created the Xerox machine! That was the best thing invented since sliced bread! We could reprint as many copies as needed, as long as the toner held. Once the cassette filled with the toner ran out, it was time to refill it. What I’m saying is back 100 years we didn’t have the ability to reproduce the clear photos we can now. So we can’t gripe about that. Concentrate on what we did see in this beautiful castle

    @ladyinred3735@ladyinred373510 ай бұрын
    • The British view it as a title that noone wants. It’s a title that is a subsidiary title to most dukes anyway so most marquesses are dukes as well and there are very few that are a marquess only. In fact I read it was given to those who the Nobility didn’t wish to be given the title of Duke.

The Tutankhamen connection was something I never heard about from Fellowes or any of the episodes of Downton. I believe that the writer of Downtown Abbey, who is a family friend, came up with a story almost 100% inspired on this family to attract fame and money and so to save the property! Even in the Downtown Abbey film, the castle is also turned into a film location, to which the Crawleys agreed as to make money to repair the roof!!! Coincidence ?????😅
