UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It was the 9th UFC event of the year and took place on April 21, 2012, at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
The headline fight at UFC 145 was a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship contest between champion Jon Jones and challenger Rashad Evans. Jones and Evans are former teammates at Jackson's MMA, under the tutelage of coach Greg Jackson. Evans was one of Jackson's most successful fighters and was a core member of his training camp. Being in the same weight class, and a long-time member of Jackson's MMA, the UFC veteran Evans naturally took the young and inexperienced fighter Jones under his wing. In the months leading to UFC 145, the two engaged in a bitter and public feud.
At UFC 128 (March 19, 2011), Evans was expected to fight for the Light Heavyweight title against then-champion Mauricio Rua. However, a knee injury forced Evans off of the card. Needing an opponent for Rua at UFC 128, the UFC offered Jones the match. Jones accepted, with Evans' blessing. Shortly afterward, Jones stated in an interview with MMA reporter Ariel Helwani he would be willing to fight Evans if the UFC asked. Evans felt betrayed by his teammate and friend, starting a feud that forced Evans to leave Jackson's MMA. Evans then joined the Imperial Athletics camp in Florida.
Since UFC 128, Jones had defended his championship twice against former champions (Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida). Evans had defeated former champion Tito Ortiz, as well as Phil Davis, to set the stage for "the most anticipated Light Heavyweight bout since Chuck Liddell fought Tito Ortiz". This was the third scheduled contest between the two. The first match was scrapped due to a hand injury to Jones, and the second because of a thumb injury to Evans.
Jones won via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, and 50-45).

    • Yeah, that was brutal. Jon did that many times. He could have finished fights with take downs and wrestling so many times, but he's so good that he wanted to win fights on his terms. Rashad was an amazing fighter at the time and Jon has dominated everyone. Rasahd talked crap before the fight and said years ago I got the better of you in training. Jon went in there and proved a point, he dominated him bad and beat the hell out of him. I really don't think Rashad was ever the same after this fight.

    • @@user-zz6tb7vy9w Hell yeah man, very good point. It affects their ego too. A lot of guys thought they could beat him and then just got completely dominated, like Rampage Jackson, which was an earlier fight. DC was a beast, and pretty much got dominated everyone else he fought, but when he discovered Jones, he discovered a whole new level and got dominated himself pretty much. DC was one of the only ones that could still perform at a high level though and dominate other fighters though like you said. Rashad took a beating, and was never the same. Physically or mentally. When Gus got dominated the 2nd fight he was never the same after that either.

    • @@kungpowking1606 Those heavyweights were scrubs relative to Rashad Evans, there's a reason why all of them never amounted to anything special in MMA and went on to have journeymen careers at best. Forrest Griffin, who I actually really love and respect as a person and as a fighter, was arguably one of the worst UFC Light Heavyweight champions in modern MMA history. Nobody is saying that Jon Jones isn't an absolute killer in the cage, they're just pointing out how drastic the size difference between him and Rashad are. Also as great as Jones is, to say he "dominated" everyone is a bit disingenuous when he arguably lost to Dominick Reyes, Thiago Santos, and Gustaffson in their first meeting. He's still the GOAT yes, but there's no need to exaggerate his track record when it's already impressive enough as is

      @IAWIA5@IAWIA5 Жыл бұрын
    • I have to disagree on Forrest Griffin being one of the worst light heavyweight champions in UFC history, just like you said “don’t exaggerate Jone’s track record”, I’m gonna say don’t underappreciate Forrest’s MMA career. Forrest fought in UFCs most vicious era, where almost every fighter was on some kind of PED, and USADA wasn’t partnered with the UFC during those years. I personally think becoming champion during that era is even more impressive, but that’s just my opinion. I do think the size difference between Rashad and Jones is big, but that’s to be expected with Jone’s bigger body frame. I wouldn’t say Rashad didn’t belong at light heavyweight though, as he’s beaten guys just as big as Jones, and absolutely dominated Chael Sonnen who is a natural middleweight.

    • He's still all those things. Hasn't retired yet and just won the heavyweight title in dominating fashion. A guy Ngannou had problems with Jon defeated before the 1st round ended. There may not be anyone who's ever as amazing as Jon or as dominant. Not for a long time anyway. He's been dominating several generations of fighters for over 10 years, and still really doesn't have a loss. I mean you could argue Reyes beat him, but clearly he wasn't taking that fight seriously. Reyes is not even a good fighter. Jon has got complacent in some fights. He's so dominant and good that he wasn't always training, and he also was fighting guys at their own game instead of finishing them as quick as possible with the right game plan. I'm sure for this last couple fights he will be fully prepared and ready to do whatever he needs to to win. He's getting older now so we'll see what happens. Hopefully he doesn't start falling off. I want to see him finish his career undefeated.

Jones is good, but not that good, age mattters, clean fighting matters. Take away the age difference and take away the dirty moves, and I don't think Jones would win as many fights as he has... Both these fighters are awesome, but their size was the biggest disadvantage. Its ridiculous to put a 5'9" fighter in with a 6'4" fighter and then be impressed when the bigger fighter wins. • @@boss2654 He knocked out two long time fan favorites in Liddell and Griffin. He was also kinda cocky and arrogant, as evident by his behavior on TUF both as a contestant and a coach, and was also constantly trash talking his opponents both before and during fights, such as when he infamously mocked Machida for having "pillow hands" seconds before he ended up getting knocked out by Lyoto himself. He hasnt been as brash in the past half a decade or so though as I think age has kinda tamed him, so that along with him retiring helped a lot of fans finally appreciate him for the great fighter that he was during his prime as well as his contributions to the sport.

Of course Dana sets these guys up uses the OG fighters names to catapult these new younger fighters that he likes. Not really fair to the OG’s. Some of them know when to quit before this happens. Those are the fortunate ones.

He's about to duck all the good HW's and retire 2-0 at HW as the ONLY champion in MMA or Boxing history to win a world title, much less win and defend it, without beating a single guy coming off a win. Gane had just gotten grappled by a non grappler and got put against a guy who's been an elite wrestler for over a decade in mma, while Stipe's the "Heavyweight legend" who's literally fighting at LHW walkaround weight now at 237 lbs and is completely shot with grey hair, glasses, and a dad bod. Khabib could've easily grappled 2 guys to become double champ when that guy Jake Paul ko'd was champion and Masvidal was a contender, GSP was a double champ, Silva could've easily gone double champ when Forrest got the belt and fought several guys who were already ranks LHW's, and Fedor wasn't a double champ because he spent his enture career outsized at HW and went on a 33-1 streak there beating everyone of relevance instead of cutting from 230+ to fight middleweights like SOME PEOPLE, so Jon going double champ without beating an actual reigning champion or #1 guy in the division doesn't really do anything. Try again.
