  • The opening weight for the 1st event is 385lbs. The average person can’t squat that weight and these monsters are pressing it over their heads. These guys are insanely powerful and strong.

    @SJM6791@SJM6791 Жыл бұрын
    • Dude, the average man can't squat even half that - for a BEGINNER - a guy who does not work out, average build, 5'9", 160-170 lbs - the AVERAGE is 58 kg for 1 rep, or about 130 lbs - an intermediate male lifter - couple years of solid training - can maybe hope for - again, average build, not genetic freaks like Tom or Brian - 120 kg - and that's for SQUAT. For OVERHEAD press, the average man starts at about 70 lbs 1 rep max, MAYBE 80-85 MAX but 75 lbs would be a good middle ground (by the way, this isn't according to me - this is as recorded over thousands of lifts across many, many lifters and easily available online - though keep in mind, these are SELF reported lifts and men often self-report their own height and lifts incorrectly or outright lie so it could even be lower if you include all the scrawny little 5'8", 150 lb guys who can barely lift a shopping bag who exist in the world)- keep in mind, we're talking REAL numbers, not internet liars who always make inflated claims or don't mention that it was an a machine or don't realize that machines assist the lift massively - my POINT is, average man, overhead lift like this, we're talking 70 to 85 lb range - and yeah, that SOUNDS low when you're comparing it to monsters like this, OF COURSE it sounds low - but the average man IS weak - the average man sits on his ass most of the day, drinking beer and eating pizza, and never lifts anything heavier than a 24 pack - he might go to the gym for a few days, once every few years, and give up again and lose anything he even came close to gaining. GLOBALLY, the average man isn't even 5'9" - that's in the west - the GLOBAL average including southeast asia, central america, etc - places where the size of people tends to be much smaller than further north (as general rule of thumb, heights and body sizes get bigger the further north you go - and sure enough, places in Northern Europe have the tallest, biggest men on average on the planet - maybe an adaptation to the cold, who knows, but notice that MOST WSM finalists ARE of northern european heritage even if they were born in other countries). So ANYway, average GLOBALLY for men is 5'7", 150 lbs. Yes, really. THAT is what the average non-obese man WORLDWIDE when you average ALL the heights together looks like. In America, the average man is 5'9" and 30 lbs overwight, so a bit heavier - but that's all fat. His NATURAL healthy body weight if not overeating would be 170 lbs. I just say this to dispel internet lift bro ideas of what is normal for men around the world. 70 to 85 lbs, depending on build, is the 1 rep max for untrained men who have less than a month experience in the gym in the last several years - which is MOST men. JUST to put into perspective how much weight this ACTUALLY is in comparison to global TYPICAL abilities of men. Of COURSE there will be outliers - I've gotten 120 to 130 lbs overhead one-handed as a personal best but that's something I wasn't even able to repeat and I usually max at 100 per hand, or about 200 overhead - and that's as a 6'2", 220 lb guy who works out an hour a day 3 times a week (granted, fairly casually) - and right NOW I've lost a lot of that after not having access to good weights for a long time so right NOW I could probably only get 160 to 180 max overhead - which, to be fair, IS about 100 to 120 lbs more than the weight beginners start at but even at my BEST maybe I could hop for 220 overhead if I got back into the shape I was in 2 years ago- which is still far off from the opening weight - OPENING - for these guys. I'm just talking REALISTIC numbers rather than internet gym-bro numbers. That, realistically, unless I were to take it REALLY seriously and LIVE to lift and "get gains" - is probably about the point where progressing much further starts to get really, really hard. Hell, 90% of men can't get more than 140 overhead on a barbell - they LIE about it constantly online (hell, I invite you to doubt MY claims - *I* could be lying - it's easy to lie online - I could weigh 90 lbs soaking wet and claim to bench 500 on the INTERNET - it's healthy to doubt unproven claims) - those who can lift 200+ lbs overhead are in the EXTREME minority - less than 1% of men on earth can even do THAT - and those who can do over 300 - much less 400 or 500 - are in the 0.1% or smaller range, globally. Oleksii's lift here is a 1 in several BILLION lift, it being a world record and all. Including all MALES on earth, that is the top 0.00000000025% of men on earth. THAT is how crazy that lift is. I just think it's healthy for men to have this sort of REAL talk when it comes to weight lifting - for a healthy man, no gym experience, normal size and build, bottom line is 70 to 85 lbs for a non-lifter is a REALISTIC 1 rep max - probably with terrible form and a lot of shaking and quaking. I've WATCHED guys at the gym and seen MANY other guys struggle with anything over 80 for overheads. Again, there are guys who are going to be exceptions, but this is in GENERAL among the GENERAL population - guys you walk by on the street, 50/50 odds are they're in that range - odds of them lifting 150+ overhead are single-digit percentages - odds of them being able to lift 220+ overhead, 1% or less - odds of an Oleksii lift like this? 1 in several billion. My point is, normal guys don't need to feel BAD about their own lifts if they're not lifting crazy numbers. THAT takes good genetics, a ton of work, and possibly some injections of some things, for the really high end stuff. IF someone is "only" able to lift 80 lbs overhead and feels weak watching this, they should just remember - that's NORMAL range for a man, and ANY improvement on that is an accomplishment. If someone only ever gets to 100 overhead, still an accomplishment - most guys new to weights can't properly strict curl anything above 30 lbs on a dumbbell more than once to start. That's OK. We ALL start somewhere. Tom and Oleksii were genetically gifted but there WAS a time in their lives when they were not even half this strong!

Anyone on there should be able to do 220,and I am not shitting on any. 230, to even 270 would be about right to expect them be able to do, in a comp like WSM, if they got it nailed down. • @@preston2636 Well, man (!) Just take a look at how they do it... Another thing is, it is obviously a strongman wihthin strongman record, it's an olympic like, or an actual Olympic barbell, and guys have done 300 kg before, it's not a favourite heavy accessory for olympic weightlifters, but you can bet that a potential 320 kg is not off the radar in that game, surely a tired A bracket world championship caliber lifter has what it takes to do 260 anyday, anytime, even after squats, if he really, rally needs to. You bet anything for guys with their ability, below 240 kg is piss poor, and it looks like it- it fawking has to :D (!)- they aren't used to it, but well, it's not anything metaphysical, it's a reboundy bar with weight on. Make enough distinctions, everything is a WR. I mean, are you aware that it's just their WR, with their bar with it's own sticker on ? It's still a classic implement with minimal, to no changes.

  • Pirros Dimas was an olympic weight lifter. His best clean and jerk record was 215Kg with a personal weight at 85kg then. I know that strongmen are not dedicated so much to weightlifting but anyway i cannot be impressed when 180kg people lift the same weight as someone half the size.
