My grandpa had dementia and died of lung cancer, I was young, around 7 or 8, It takes alot to take care of these people who have dementia, but remember that they are your family, and they appreciate everything you do for them, I did not spend time with my grandpa and now I cant spend time at all, please spend time with your loved ones guys. 😢😢

My dad had dementia before he died, but thankfully my mom took away his car keys
I would feel ashamed I left her alone knowing last time I did she ran off
We didn't lock my grandfather away. We put him in a home with people who knew how to properly take care of him and when he proved to be a flight risk, he was moved to a good home that specialized in dementia patients that wonder off. Because in his mind, all he was just going home. Sure, he had "aggression," but he was a military veteran, and he was just falling into old defense training that many veterans recognize and the staff knew how to handle. They were nothing like these so-called cops who clearly just took the job for the pay and the power obsession. Cops are not expected to be doctors or mental health professionals, but they are expected to know the difference between the criminal and the innocent. It's a shame so many cops don't, even if they're not as bad as these two.

All the officers cared about was showing off their police status. They were waiting to find someone doing something illegal just to show off. When they realised something was off they immediately thought of the worst scenario which was drugs and alcohol instead of taking into account that there might be some sort of mental problem due to the age. As for the taser it was totally unnecessary, how much of a struggle can a 70 year old woman put against 2 young officers.

Have you ever been around somebody that has or had dementia?? They usually don't have the capacity to understand they need help to go to the store or anything else. They have to be constantly watched and taken care of.

The cops are definitely in the wrong here, but let's not forget how irresponsible it was for Mary to leave her dementia-stricken mother home alone. If her condition was bad enough to where this wasn't the first time she'd left the house and gotten confused, she should either be in a care center or have a live-in caretaker to make sure she doesn't hurt herself while Mary's at work.

To avoid being in situations like that is simply keep them at home! As their Brain is deteriorating their unable to remember where to go and how to get back home! Either have their children go with them or send them to a nursing home to look after them!

What the cops did is not right. They should not taser the old lady. Lesson: DO NOT EVER, I repeat DO NOT EVER walk away from cops. That’s a crime consider Evasion or Flight from Peace Officer. You can get jail for that.
But the lady CLEARLY has Dementia! She likely can’t recall if or what she ate 10” ago. As a Hospice Nurse, I’ve seen deadbeat kids come & strip the house, first the closest thing to valuables & then most of the furniture. They were stopped when they tried to take an easy chair that Hospice provided. Initially, they said I was lying but I had my respected Social Worker on speed dial & let her listen to what was said so she knew we needed help. She was right around the corner & was there tout suite to help.

Some years ago an elderly friend asked me to be her Power of Attorney for Health Care, since I'm an R.N. and a Pastor. She had been learning disabled since birth, and was kind and very childlike. Her family took care of her finances and other issues. As her health declined, her physicians had her on 15 different medications. In the Southern Ohio area, where I live, her diagnoses and medications would have definitely qualified her for a home health nurse to come and to check her on a regular basis, and to help her with taking all of her medications daily. But my friend lived in Northern Kentucky. When I inquired about getting the home health nurse, I was told that she wasn't eligible!!!! I was APPALLED. 😳 I called a home health agency here in Ohio and asked why my friend didn't qualify for help with her daily medications. I was told that she would qualify if she lived in Ohio, but that she would not qualify if she stayed in Northern Kentucky. When I further inquired as to why the difference, I was told that Kentucky doesn't do funding for patients like my friend!!!... So regarding your film, everyone needs to be aware that qualifying for home health care needs varies greatly from state to state!!! 😥

I'm a real certified person who cares for elderly and truth be told, the daughter should have been got a home health person or someone she trusted to look after her mother while she works. This whole thing could have been avoided if she would have at least tried it.
It's a dramatization, so we can give her at least a free pass since this is meant to be lesson. But now it'll serve as a warning as to *why* people shouldn't fool themselves into thinking their elderly parent(s) should be alright if left alone when they are ill like this.
I was very upset with how the officers treated the elderly woman and her daughter. I felt so bad for Mary on how the officers laughed about her mom. Sad to say there are good and bad officers. They shouldn't have used the taser on the elderly woman nor disrespect her.

Officers need training to be able to recognize when someone has mental health issues, etc. Often times it's obvious but they choose to not see it.
That’s why I always wear a medical bracelet.

No, it’s a valid reason. Cars are deadly. Even going 1 over the speed limit is dangerous. They just handled this situation wrongly because generation hope loves making drama.
@@Jaballs23 Well they could have just given her a ticket like what they were going to do. Yes she wasn't cooperating with them but that's probably because their approach was frightening her because most of what happened wouldn't have even happened if they didn't frighten her.

Also yes at first they were acting normal but it did quickly lead to the male cop shouting at her and shining his flash light at her and that probably confused her even more. Besides, tasing her wasn't necessary because they could have just went after her and handcuffed her because it's not like it would have been dangerous to do that.
