  • Thrilled for Casper Ruud on achieving his first ATP 500 title. Very well deserved. He is so likeable as well off the court.

    • I am a fan of tsitsipas but yesterday I said that ruud was favorite to win because he didn't drop a set until the final while tsitsipas lost two sets from opponents like no 53 or 59. But in the first set, the serve that tsitsipas lost was a gift to ruud, the first two points especially. The first set which was important according to ruud's words could have gone on tsitsipas's way but he threw it away.

    • You tend to also stop putting expectations on yourself anymore after so many big finals losses. You're just grateful to be there anyways and the norm is probably to lose again after a great week. But from there, anything onwards is a bonus and then eventually you break through because you've gone through so much heartache that you get used to it and then you just have nothing to lose anymore... and then you breakthrough. Part of it is persistence and part of it is being accustomed to the pain of persistence to the point where you don't feel much (until maybe when you reach championship point) and then there's nothing more to lose.

  • For me this is the best match that I have ever seen Casper play. It represents what is great about rivalries in tennis. One week ago, Casper was destroyed on the serve return dynamic and was unwilling to redirect his backhand. But thanks to stefanos absolutely wiping the floor with him in Monaco, Ruud sharpened up and started to stand in on the return and be deadly on the backhand. Also brought the trademark forehand to the table- winning him one of the most thoroughly deserved titles I’ve seen in a while

  • Ruud was able to get some accuracy and depth into the Tsitsipas backhand this time and it made a huge difference in the pressure moments. It opened up the court and he could bully the baseline side to side. Also he returned much better with lower net clearance so Stef couldn't use the net as effectively compared to the Monte Carlo final a week ago. On top of that, he moved forward to the net a lot better to finish the points when he had Stef on the backfoot with the heavy forehand. He's also improving his backhand down the line and it's becoming a weapon as we saw it emerging when he did damage against Djokovic with it a week ago. Tactically much better this time around and at last he gets over the line at a fairly big event. As for Tsitsipas, he ran out of survival heroics and sadly at yet another 500 final with now 11 losses with no title at this 500 level.

  • Excellent to see Ruud finally win. Pulled off some very tactical shots, especially the slice backhand down the line taking the punch out of the ball and making Tsitispas chase it and scoop into the net on that break point. His angle backhand winner was a gamble winner and he pulled it off and exactly had to go for a big winner then playing confidently instead of playing perfect percentage defence-return. Knocked a couple of drop shots into the net and needs to work on that: No missed opportunities to hit those and work the opponent or put them out of position. Hope to see a lot more from Ruud for the Clay court season and improvements. Tsitsipas was not as lethal as MC - strong player when paying and dictating his own shots: Be interesting to see in RG: I think these high level games should set him up well for that GS tournament. All the above said, Djokovic has the shots on Clay and control on the ball, I'll be interested to see him back at his best: Can't see many players beating him still.

  • Being very aggressive paid off for Ruud. In cross court exchanges, rather than keep hitting the cross court as in the Monte Carlo match, Ruud took the ball down the line early and frequently. This made a big difference. Coaches like to tell players to hit cross court to be safe, but at this level you can't win if you can't hit the down-the-line before your opponent does. Well done, and well deserved win!

  • I am so happy for Casper. Very cool guy & respectful, takes his losses like none other, keeps on clobbering that forehand, and now he wins big. I hope he wins even bigger. Well done Cas~

  • 0:32 Ruud's forehand big takeback reminds me of Fernando Gonzalez. And that's saying a lot! Very well deserved for Ruud! 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻

  • It was really a return match which was explicitly competed by Ruud & Tsitsipas. Ruud was ready to take the revenge of the vanquishment of Monte Carlo Final encounter. The desire, energy and aspiration of Casper Ruud have never declined along the entire match. He has contended more resolute and relentless than Tsitsipas in this final clash, going down in the history with this colossal title. Congratulations to Norwegian tennis competitor for attaining the first 500 ATP title of your career!

  • Took the risk going down the line on his backhand more after opening the court. 1 tactical change from the last final got him the win. ❤
