Lt Gen Hodges was a very capable commander and his straightforward, accurate analysis of the current requirements for Ukraine are spot on. The Pentagon and the US Congress should make it a priority to listen to him. They won’t, but they should.

I think the same thing every time I hear him talk. Why isn't he making the decisions. He's a Ukraine expert. It is soooo frustrating sometimes to see the U.S. dawdling and hemming and hawing. The 3 most common book by far is Sun Tzu's "Art of War". von Clausewitz is 2nd with "On War". A distant third (if one of them is indeed 3rd) might be Liddell Hart's "Strategy" or Machiavelli's "The Prince". BTW, I don't make the curricula. That's just the way it is. Like if you're studying English literature, you start with Chaucer, then Shakespeare. Sun Tzu's relevance is the only reason you've ever heard of him. If he wasn't relevant, no one would know his name. Almost nothing is known of his life.

I’m one of the older Generation X members that grew up in the ‘80s and I share General Hodges’ frustration that “the Party of Reagan” basically tosses everything we did to win the Cold War over the Soviets out the window in order to cozy up to the current leader of the Russians who, by all accounts, is doing everything he can to bring the USSR back again. This is the first time I can recall hearing him swear in one of these clips; the actions of his government are clearly as confounding to him as they are to the rest of us.
I totally agree! I was in Germany when the Soviet Russian empire fell thanks to Reagan and Bush. I watched as all the Eastern bloc countries rushed to be free of Russia and join NATO. I watched from my barracks as Bush assembled a coalition of the free world and pushed the dictator Hussein out of Kuwait. I was proud to be an American back then. And I had no problem voting Republican back then. Now I do.

I have listened to the good General at many stages of this war. I get so frustrated with our politicians playing games with the fate of Ukraine.

I always look forward to hearing Lt.Gen. Ben Hodges commentary on the situation in Ukraine. This man makes so much sense. Everything is explained so well and I think the US administration would do well to listen and act on his advice.

Ukraine has no men left, not easy to win a war with amateurs, especially since Zelensky is afraid to make troop sizes too big in case they turn on him, small untrained old men and they are even recruiting women now are no match for professional Russian troops. Support is wasted on Ukraine, it was only ever a money laundering operation anyway.
I find it embarrassing as a lifelong Republican that my party can’t see that continuing to arm Ukraine with modern weapons is just as important to the US as it is to Ukraine itself. We have the unique opportunity to continue to weaken one of the West’s largest foes significantly both militarily and economically without risking the lives of American soldiers, and likely stopping the Russian invasions of neighboring countries that it has been undertaking in recently years. The Republicans want to fund one bill (border security), the Democrats want to fund another (Ukraine), but nobody wants to be held responsible for all the spending. Every time it ends the same way: each side gives way in funding both (which is what they really wanted). The votes are always close but that is just theater. Some Republicans will be able to say, "I didn't vote for the Ukraine bill" and some Democrats will be able to say, "I didn't vote for border security." Not lying, of course, but disingenuous. If you have to bet, bet that each will pass by a very narrow margin, almost like it was predetermined. Yeah... almost like that, every time.

It's just plain weird how some western officers assume this ridiculously condescending attitude towards Ukrainian officers, on any level. Western countries have been teaching fundamentals to Ukrainians for a while. It's been a barely shorter while since I promised they will come back to teach us. They are fighting the kind of war we've been training for. Theory is valuable, theory corrected after practical experience is gold.

Western/NATO troops are NOT trained for this type of warfare. Yet, the west has pushed Ukraine into this war and dictated every element of Ukraine's failed counteroffensive. They don't seem to be learning from their mistakes. Ukrainian collapse is inevitable.

What he says is idiotic. Crimea was supplied before the bridge was built by sea ferry and air. Since then Russia has an additional land bridge with road and rail. Even if the bridge was destroyed it would make no difference in overall terms. I don't know when everyone is commenting that what this low ranking American is saying is pure gold. Our advice is even more embarrassing when we consider that the supplies we are willing to share don't match what we're advising them to do.
It's the when and how as much as the what. A counteroffensive in a particular month is a lot different than 3 extra months for your enemy to build defenses.
A very wise man, spot on on all points! Especially West needs to learn from Ukraine, as he said they are in the fight doing things unexpected and unanticipated while preserving their people and economy for the fight and future. Our critiques are specious. Those of our people who are so afraid of fighting and want them to give up territory and settle for annihilation would be the first ones taken over in a fight here at home. Silliness that shouldn’t get press. You can free speech yourself right into a corner of bad decisions and ultimate defeat.
A very wise man would be advocating for peace. Hodges is the absolute opposite of that. A warmongering Ukrainian cheerleader, drumming up support in the West for greater engagement in a war the US deliberately triggered.

Gen. Hodges has consistently spoken wisely about Ukraine. It is a huge shame that Biden isn't listening to his advice. Support for Ukraine has been half-hearted at best. If Trump returns to power there won't even be half a heart.
Biden has attempted to balance competing interests. I don’t envy him his position. He could have moved faster, but I think he understood very early that this would be a “long” war. The question becomes whether the Republican party retreats to its isolationist , “know nothing” roots.

General who was fighting the sandals army, predicted some strong push in the counter-offensive and then it turned out nothing has happened neither it will. Going to Crimea is a fairytale at this point, even if they decide to deliver "everything needed" it will take months just for that equipment to arrive, not to mention that Ukraine is now in defensive and Russians captured placed like Marinka last week. If they secure all areas they captured so far there is exactly 0 chances for any push on Ukraine side, the best they can do is to keep their positions and nothing more. It is reality not hard to realize to those who wish to see.
