Breakaway Brilliance & GC Gaps | Tour De France 2022 Stage 14 Highlights

405 307 Рет қаралды

Stage 14 is perhaps another opportunity for the breakaway, with almost 200 km of rolling terrain culminating in the 3 km, 10% climb of the Côte de Croix Neuve, affectionately known as the “Monté Laurent Jalabert” to commemorate the Frenchman’s Stage Win in Mende during the 1995 Tour.

  • Just a special mention for my fellow South African, Louis Meintjes who has gone from something like 26th to 7th in just a couple of days. Great fight. So few S-Africans in pro-cycling and Daryl Impi got Covid just days before the TDF. Incredibly, even if unlikely, Meintjes now even has an outside crack at a podium finish.

  • Noob question but shouldn't basically every stage (except the last) be one for the breakaway right now? Jumbo Visma wouldn't want Pogacar to gain any bonus seconds by finishing among the first riders, so they should always let a break go. UAE need every rider possible to aid Pogacar and get him in a 1v1 scenario with Jonas like they did today, so they can't waste to much manpower on chasing that break. And additionally Sprinter teams like Lotto are weakened.

    @ForeverDayGreen@ForeverDayGreen Жыл бұрын
    • Yes unless it is pancake flat stage or hard mountain stage it should be for breakaway, only jumbo can bring the breakaway with their manpower, and like u said bringing the breakaway is the last thing they want unless WVA is capable of winning the stage

      @liendatt8347@liendatt8347 Жыл бұрын
    • True. Working to bring JV to winning position in a non sprint finish is same as towing TP to bonus points or an attacking position unless TP dropped, so Jumbo need only defend and UAE must attack to find time and tire JV as TT won't be enough

  • Pogacar can’t count on more 45 secs in tt, perhaps 10 bonus secs. Not enough. Looks like pogacar cannot dislodge vingegaard on any climb. Thus x probable vingegaard wins tour Vuelta cd be great race. Roglic second tier here at tour. But has champions mindset. Already he has been thinking of what race (vuelta) he can win to redeem himself. And roglic need a win there to enhance his value. Vingegaard now is top dog at jumbo. Perhaps roglic leaves jumbo for Ineos or movie star or bora or Israeli. He’s gotta win. (Same mindset for washed out mvp, but worlds, tho he may use 10 stages of vuelta for worlds prep). Pogacar if loses tour may say let’s do vuelta. Bernal may be healed and want vuelta for a return Valverde last racing days at vuelta Carapaz not at tour, at vuelta. We also have an heatwave that will perhaps compete with the deadly 2003 one. And i learn today, that because the asphalt of the road is becoming soft due to the heat, the TdF organizer is watering the asphalt by truck before the race comes !!!! We are desperately lacking water, and THEY ARE WATERING ASPHALT ! Lets remember that some of the tops sponsors of the TdF are petrol, gas and coil companies/countries : UAE, Bahrain, Ineos, Total, etc. They are among the top responsible for that situation. I can not stand seeing them destroying the world and my country for their greed. That whole event is more than a joke, it is an insult to human lifes. Please do not support this race towards our death.
