I don't have the footages yet for defeating Orin and the Absolute, so I don't have the "endgame" clips yet. But, hey, this took waaaayyy too long than I expected. I had to go over so many clips and compile them haha.

astarian's enemies to friends to lovers pipeline is real
IDK if I'd call it enemies to lovers, that knife pull wasn't really an enemy worth moment. He's more like the fake dating turned real path, since he was manipulating us for his survival at the start, but then fell in love with us anyway.

To be honest, most of Astarion's flirt during act1 is just pretending. He plays a role, you can tell he is just reeling his phrases out like he know them by heart. However, there are few scenes in act1 where you get to see the real astarion (not the sex slave that had to lure preys for his master for 2 centuries). To me, those scenes are the real ones where you see him coming to trust and like Tav : the nighty sky scene (when he suddenly fell silent staring at you, astoned), the mirror scene (when he says he wants to know what people see when they look at him, what Tav see), and of course, if you're playing DU, when he gets to help you out through the night (and he says "you've got this, and I've got you"). And to me, the way he progresses over himself and his feelings makes him even more worth fighting for. :3 (Digging for the real Astarion beneath the veil :3)

In the dev notes for the night sky scene, it notes that he falls silent looking at your neck because he is hungry. (It also notes that Astarion keeps getting uncomfortably close to your Tav because of his hunger during that scene, which is why you get the dialogue option "You're too close"). But I agree on the mirror scene. It ends up being a call back because Astarion mentions in his final romance scene in the game that he finally felt seen. He also comments on how he sees the real you if you are playing DU, and it becomes a kind of theme in Astarion and DU's relationship.

Oh, right! I also missed the "Yes, love?" from Act 3 after Cazador, but Act 3 was oh so laggy still. It was hard making this compilation since I had to go back to my first hour of playthroughs and re-record everything. 😆 I probably forgot about it while going through the clips and editing. I hope I was still able to capture Astarion's charms in this video, though! 😀

After finishing gameplay for both male Durge and female Tav, I intended strongly to start another and romancing Gale. I failed, inevitably. Sweet Hells, these pixelated vampire sucked the resolve out of me.
After having this same thing happen to multiple times, I found the solution was to just play AS Astarion to romance Gale, because then Astarion isn't going to tempt me again lol
Same :/ second play through, I told myself “Okay, we are going to romance Gale this time okay? No Astarion” 10 seconds upon meeting Astarion again, I failed lol

Every time I flirt with someone else in a new game, that face he makes in the background (cuz I HAVE to have him in my party, he's a perfect pair Arcane Trickster path for a Druid, my fav class) it rips my heart out. Like a puppy about to get kicked. I then lose all resolve and end up romancing him again. Almost 700 hrs deep and only he has my heart in solo runs. (multi player is harder to romance when your real life hubby keeps cockblocking you missing his important scenes)

for real. I couldn’t stand him in Early Access but then that love train hit me hard when I forced myself to do a romance with him after Full Release. Quoting the elf here but he was a complication that I didn’t see coming, and now he’s my favourite companion out of everyone.

I was going to say, this is a character from a really sexy targeted towards women erotic fantasy novel..... Written and acted to perfection. And if you chose not to romance him, he's still f$&king great to have on your team. I'm actually pleasantly surprised by both this character and Shadowheart as love interests, she's more like your friend from the coven who's "too much into the craft", and he's more like that guy you cast spells hoping you'd actually meet. It's cute, I can give Larian a legit thumbs up. And yes I'm aware that his character does have a rather dark backstory, but it's literally a game where he sucks you dry till you die one night and goes around the next morning looking up how to resurrect you from a book as if he's looking up a recipe for breakfast in a cookbook, and you can drop a freaking building on his oblivious head and have to resurrect him back... Don't take it too seriously... 😂 Enjoy 😊
Honestly I thought I’d hate his guts with how his character tropes would probably appeal to women like you described at first. But I ended up having him in my party most of my playthrough. He turned into one of my favourite characters in this game. A genuine surprise but not an unwelcome one!
I love the part in the video where it’s back to back him saying simple yet endearing greetings. “Yes, darling?” “Hello, my sweet” “Hello, my dear” “Hello, beautiful” “Gods, you’re beautiful” Those flurry of greetings ends with him being just so captivated by your presence

This could be the asexuality talking, but when Astarion asks Tav if they “will be coming to [his] bed tonight,” I genuinely thought he was talking about cuddles. Just pure wholesome snuggles. But this man needs more gentle non-sexual intimacy, so I will cuddle him anytime.
Also Ace, and generally that is where my brain goes as well for just about all the characters. XD I do love that for him (and Karlach technically, but for different reasons), one of the most powerful ways you show him support is just with a hug. NEVER underestimate the power of a hug. Intimacy is about more than just lust and carnal desires. Just ask an Ace.
When I got my second Astarion romance scene at the party and he said "Let's see where the night takes us" my ace heart ran with that and imagined some soul soothing cuddles and healing embraces 😆 Also, happy Ace Week to all fellow ace Astarion romancers!! 🥰

I'm not Ace myself but i absolutely agree that bonding with your partner in a non-sexual manner is way more important for a healthy relationship, sex is just an extra. Thats why i have the utmost respect for when astarion told me he is not comfortable with us having a sexual relationship anymore as our romantic relationship progressed. I would never hurt my beloved's feelings over something as trivial as pleasure.

Neil Newbon HIT this out the ball park. I will say I love how at times Astarion meand genuinely we are friends and other times he mocks it out of genuine frustration that we are JUST friends. Love your character design. She is cute ❤🎉

Non romanced Astarion also progresses through a whole ramge of greetings for Tav show ing growing trust and friendship. The way he calls Tav his dear friend is so lovely compared to how he spoke in act 1.

Why is Astarion love storyline better than any romance book. They put so much to create this character. I don't know if I did something wrong or not but Karlach and laezel romance was very quick. Haven't had any memorable moments and suddenly after you done their important questline they love you to death.
Karlach thinks you are a saint by doing literally anything good and Laezel gets uber horny after you display prowess in bloodshed (Tiefling vs Goblins slaughter). She also gains big boosts for moments with her where you are decisive and confident. Doing these means they quickly max approval unless you go out of your way to be a bit wacky.
I feel this. Astarions seems the most realistic so far, his and maybe gale or shadowheart is a close second. The others feel like an after thought sadly.
True, but *spoilers*… I’ll say that I got a sneak peak at one of the conversations from later in Act 3 you can have with a romanced Lae’zel. Essentially boils down to her telling you how you’ve opened her eyes and heart to the beauty of Faerûn and it’s honestly so wholesome, especially considering how abrasive she is in Act 1. ❤
Astarion had a lot more writing work done on him because he was a favorite among the developers and Neil Newbon had a lot of influence on adding more content for him as well
@@broomhilder I feel so bad to cheat on her. She changed so much. As a character I think she has more in depth development than Astarion. But her romance scene really is quick. Goes from respect you to sacrificing everything for you in one second. I didn't even banged her yet.

my thoughts watching this at 10 pm: aww the gradual progression in the dialogues is so human of him (being vampire & all) and very true in real-life relationships me, watching this at 2 am, sobbing, sprawled on the floor: to be loved dearly is to be changed tenderly.
"hello... beautiful" is my favorite one because its him being intentionally flirty and provocative because he likes to see Tav simping for him and blushing. its adorable i love it so much.

My experience and some ** spoilers ** for Astarion’s romance arc: Had a romance going with our boy in my playthrough. Introducing himself like “Hello my sweet” and whatnot. So here I was running through Moonrise Towers in Act 2, and I reached the drow merchant who wants Astarion to bite her. Thinking I could just persuade/apologize later, I went through with getting the drow merchant’s potion but later got dumped by Astarion for not honoring his choice in the matter. Immediately after that long rest, he went back to saying “my FAVORITE traveling companion”, and “ah, my friend.” I just couldn’t handle the absolute sting of those responses with what had just happened. I eventually caved and reloaded an old save to prevent the break-up. 😂
I absolutely LOVE the fact that he can break up with you for that. Most games would just be like "oh well he's gonna drop a few approval points, that's all" but in this game it's like no, he's on a character arc where he's learning how to make his own decisions, and taking that away from him will have actual consequences. There's also another way he can break up with you after that scene if you don't make him drink her blood, and I just love it so much that it's even possible because it should be
I thought the same when I wanted to get the strength potion for Lae'zal. Didn't realise the importance of him making his choices and I was so devastated when he wanted to break up. I was so ready to roll back almost 2 hrs of gameplay but I talked my way out of it. That was when I really starting understanding his character more. Embarassingly, I'm not very good with reading people's mannerisms and seeing deep into them too well so I felt like it helped me want to be better at reading my loved ones better too haha
i didnt get his confession scene or talk to the drow and he said he didn't see a point in continuing anything w me. i had to restart 2 hrs worth of progress so i could talk to the drow bc i was so devastated 😭
@@98waves his confession in act 2 can go two ways. one is after talking to araj oblodra at moonrise towers, and NOT making him drink her blood. after a long rest or so, he'll thank you and tell his story. tell him you care about him / embrace him and you'll be partnered with him. his second way of confessing is NOT talking to araj oblodra (or just remove him from your party if you do). after some long rests, he'll eventually admit to manipulating you, but ended up falling in love in the process. this conversation is longer, and much more romantic in my opinion.

from my understanding as someone who hasn't actually played the game yet because i'm much too poor, astarion's route is this: strangers, to acquaintances, to partners (in the sort of 'business partners' way, not 'significant other' way), to friends, to friends with benefits, to lovers. and, i assume if you play the dark urge(?) route--in the words of my goddess celeste, "to strangers again."
