  • This feels like a breath of fresh air to see this. When gay relationships in shows are portrayed as flawless and never having any problems or arguments gets really annoying after a while. Real relationships have bumps in the road no matter what type it is or what sexuality either partner is. And it takes a lot to realize that may you weren’t meant for each other and when it’s time to break things off.

    • Yeah, as much as it's great seeing LGBT+ couples together, sometimes grounding ourselves in the reality of relationships is something that needs to be shed light on too. Arguments, conflicts, fights. Every relationship, even platonic ones, will see this happen. Some of them move on, some of them don't. And with that, this film does not an excellent job in showing what I mentioned above. (I'll be honest, I have a feeling a homophobe might accidentally watch this and even LGBT+ couples have breakups too lol)

  • I really loved this animation as someone who has been in a relationship like this. Trevor probably doesn't mean any harm, and it's clear he cares, but, it can be emotionally exhausting to be in a relationship where someone feels so emotionally distant or careless. Bloo's realization that he kept lashing out because he wasn't happy and finally putting an end to it was one I could really relate to. Super well-done animation that showed the complexities of these relationships really well.

    • Had the same. He just wanted his fun and was just like Trevor. Didn't mean harm but also didn't care when i told him i would like to spend more time together without drinking. And even during our bar visits he was always with other people, so I also had to talk with different people. After 2 years of this (the relationship was 8 years long) i more and more began to lash out in frustration cause i felt lonely but nothing changes. Even after a year, the breakup hurts but this relationship went in a direction that could never be repaired.

    • They were both just not right for each other. Trevor seemed distant and distracted precisely Because of Bloo's narcissistic personality, always calling him dumb, maybe even attracting a guy like Trevor because he enjoys feeling intellectually superior, it's super common. They both had their reasons for acting the way they did, but it didn't excuse either. So in the end it was best to just part ways.

This is a great example of that in such a creative and chaotically beautiful way. The one who didn't want to break up and tried everything to keep him and his lover together realized that what he was doing wasn't good for his health, so he had to drop him. It's a great storyline in 9 minutes and the ending original song is an excellent wrap-up to it all. I hope everyone has a great day and an amazing pride month!

  • I think what’s also interesting about this is that it’s the “twink” breaking up with the buff guy. At least in my experience(or self esteem whatever) in the gay community, buff guys are usually assumed to be the golden spatula of everyone wanting. So when you date someone who’s conventionally attractive or you perceive as more attractive than you. You have a almost toxic relationship of wanting to “keep going” cause you’ll be having to find another diamond in the rough type scenario. But in this the tv guy had enough self esteem to begin with and leave by his own choice.

Trevor wrestling him for the remote is him trying to steer Bloo back to being emotionally stable, but in an unhealthy way (like "just drop it").

Things don't always work, and I'm glad that Bloo was able to recognize when the relationship wasn't healthy. I see a lot of queer-centric media falling into the trap of either "everything is perfect", or conversely, "everything sucks". It's nice to see something that acknowledges and even explores the complexities that are inherent to relationships.

  • I've watched this three or so times now, once when it came out and twice more recently and it really sticks how much I love this short. Not all gay partnerships are sunshine and rainbows, and showing two very flawed people who obviously do mean well for eachother to some extent, just fall out and realise they're not right for eachother. One thing I did notice though is a lot of people siding with Bloo. Trevor is uncommunicative, a bit selfish, brash, and doesnt think before he acts, but Bloo is dramatic, judgemental, and someone who will drive it into your skull how imperfect you are for your faults, acting as if he himself is perfect. And it really is a great thing to me. Everyone has flaws. Everyone has a crutch to keep themselves sane, but Trevor trying to take that crutch away was really hurtful to me, someone who has his own vices. But Bloo's constant talk of imperfections and mistakes would drive you insane. In the end, the two weren't good for eachother, and in my headcanon, may have gotten together out of "necessity" because they were both just two gay dudes. I went through the same thing in highschool. It sucked but i learned a lot from it. I love this short to bits. Plus, pipi making a cameo was real sweet.

  • Wow. That was certainly a lot of emotions to go through. I already watched this 4 times already, and MAN, is the ending emotional every time. First off I just wanna say MY GOD, THAT WAS SO AMAZING! I LOVE THE ART STYLE SO MUCH, IT FITS WITH ALL OF THE PARODIES BLOO AND TREVOR ARE IN, the designs of the cartoony object head universe, MWAH, perfect. Props to the cast and animators sticking true to the style! The story was incredibly fast paced, but NOT in a bad way, despite bloo and trevor literally traveling through every show parody every 3 seconds, it still tells us how they feel and how their relationship works out. It all works out in the end though, well certainly not their relationship lol. The pace slows down a bit, making that last moment with them, really beautiful, accompanied with the lighting, music and all, that’s probably why I teared up too lol, cause I as the viewer also knew what was bound to come, like how bloo knew in that part. It sucks, I know if they stayed together, it wouldn’t be good and/or they would’ve had ALOT of making up to do, it was for the best. It just hurts cause how hurt trevor looked, and that we don’t get that much MLM representation in animated media. But again, not every relationship is peachy keen, or works out in the end, and that also counts LGBTQ relationships. So the breakup also had a good message. 9.5/10. CONGRATS to everyone that worked in this film and with the bronze award in SCAD. You did a good job! Can’t wait for other people to find this film, it’s important to see, by all means. 🧡💜🧡💜

  • I like the story a lot. Sometimes, I enjoy when couples try to better themselves and work on their relationship to be healthier, but I let out a sigh of relief when a fictional relationship is going to be worse and the partners recognize that they aren't capable of fixing it. And when the people in that relationship acknowledges that and breaks it off, it makes me feel some kind of happiness. Knowing when to break it off when it's not working out. It's okay to quit something that's not going to be good for the two of you. Had they stayed, it was probably going to be worse and wounds from fights/arguments can damage them even more. It's not easy to fix a dysfunctional relationship. I hope those two men move on and grow as individuals.

  • What I find most interesting about this film is how the TV channels represent the stage of their relationship 80s sitcom: the "honeymoon" phase. They were joyous and carefree, with Bluu loving Trevor's airhead and "cool as a cucumber" personality, and Trevor finally having someone who can ground him. Even at big problems, they laughed it off and treated it like it was very silly TLC channel: The problems were starting to get more dramatic and noticeable, but it was over silly things, and Bluu probably just thought these were small, when in Trevor's mind, he felt as though they mattered AND was constantly interrupted in favor of Bluu's solution, which in the end, made him bottle up any negative emotion The Office: This is where the issues with Trevor start to present themselves. No fly list, vacations gone up in flames, and while Bluu was overdramatic, Trevor's reckless lifestyle was start to hurt the both of them, but Trevor didn't care, based on his annoyed expressions. The news: Just to recap what happened in the first scene + show Trevor's at his breaking point Telenovela: Their problems are now at the point where they're screaming and yelling at each other, and it's getting to the breaking point for Bluu, while Trevor's trying to keep things afloat. Bluu, at this point, is giving up on the relationship and has decided he would put his own needs beneath him, if it means keeping Trevor. As for Trevor, he ignores these problem and probably uses his partner's investment on their now toxic relationship as a way to make himself the victim, which leads me to: BTAS: This is how Bluu sees their relationship. Trevor is always being the "hero", saving himself from Bluu, even when Bluu's mental health is deteriorating. Bluu is becoming more angry at himself and Trevor, believing this is all Trevor's fault and "How can Trevor let this get so bad" Game Show: Bluu's realization. It wasn't easy, but it was important. He needed to realize that while he loved Trevor, their relationship is beyond saving and he must take control back of his life (which is shown when he uses the remote). This is where we circle back to the 80's sitcom, where Bluu realizes that he shouldn't have been laughing at these problems, but instead taking them as red flags, but what are red flags when you're wearing rose colored glasses?

    • Also notable is that the return to the 80s sitcom is the first instance in which the reality that they’re “on TV” is acknowledged in the boom mics and the cameras falling in on them. Suddenly, Bluu realizes the level of toxicity in their relationship, and thus there’s a illusion that’s been shattered, as is illustrated.

It portrays a toxic relationship so accurately and breaks it off instead of keeping it going with bloo’s empty, half-assed apology. So much of the symbolism is so smart and interesting, correct me if im wrong but i saw the channels flipping as a representation of all the times theyve tried to repair their relationship but it stayed the same. And god their expressions when they were exposed to all their problems. Trevor has a look of fear and slight guilt, like he knows its been like this but has put up with it because he cares about bloo. Meanwhile bloo has a look of confusion, like he had no idea how toxic he was being throughout the relationship. God damn this is so good, i could talk about it for hours. Super well done!

    • i think you got it mixed up, Trevor is radio guy and bloo is the tv dude, from my POV Trevor was being emotionally despondent and neglectful and bloo lashed out after being knocked out (which is never okay but fight or flight reactions) and started making excuses for Trevor's neglect cause he's clingy and overly invested in a relationship that's falling apart. then the tv magic happens and bloo finally realizes there's too much damage and Trevor wont change so he walks away, IMHO Trevor isn't crying cause the relationship is over, he's crying cause bloo woke up and realized how bad things were and that he was better off alone and it didn't end on Trevor's terms it would also probably help if we knew wtf trevor was saying with subtitles or somethin

    • @@ryanharris2341I think they were both toxic. Trevor was clearly reckless and neglectful, yes. Bloo was condescending and equally neglectful. Neither of them were putting in the emotional labor to make a healthy relationship. This made both of them lash out and be toxic. The whole relationship was unhealthy.

    • Not to mention bloo resorted to hitting Trevor a lot, which is often looked over in both gay and straight relationships if it’s the smaller partner doing the abuse.

    • @@ryanharris2341 They're both broken at the end. The breakup hurt them both. Bloo is anxious attachment, Trevor is avoidant attachment. They're both emotionally draining on each other because their communication is not compatible (Trevor is literally speaking a different language).

  • We see two sides of a relationship one person is thoughtless and unreliable/dependent from people they often forget about the ones who they love and the other is clingy dramatic and scared of everything probably why they gravitated to the person in the first place is they exude traits they want what I’m saying is I get at is when I saw the tv screens pop up it gave both of them perspective and we see how over stimulated and scary the world is to tv dude

  • I love this! Object head people, chowder shirts, all these references and they're boyfriends? I love it!! Omg, also I heard the Club Penguin Night club music, nice touch. Also BEATBOXES IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES GOT ME LMAO. Great ending and characters! *Edit:* Came back to this, after finally dumping my ex after finding out all the stuff he did behind my back. He did the exact same things that Trevor did to Bloo, like ignoring me, not listening to me. Then he went to talk to other girls and lied to them behind all of our backs. Wild how it relatable it truly is now. I feel way happier than I was with him, and I feel the same way as Bloo, and haven't looked back since.

    • Bloo is not the hero and Trevor is not the villain. They're both abusive to each other, so maybe it's time to do some introspection as to why you relate to him so much.
