  • Plenty of reasons I need to get back into origami. It requires piece of mind, tolerance, a willingness to accept mistakes, and most importantly, patience. Naturally, it can help each and every one of these qualities to grow. Yeah. I need to get back into it.

    • I follow Jo Nakashima for what I consider some of the best origami model instruction. There's a journey that starts with one piece, and after that piece is finished, the next begins. The patterns repeat over and over again till you understand what they are for and what they do. It's a never - ending journey with delights along the way. The old man lets the young man find his own journey in his own work, although he leaves his own model and lamp to refer to if necessary. Ultimately both will find mastership as they continue on their journeys, learning what works and what doesn't. I was not concerned when it seemed the younger man was swallowed in the darkness. There is both yin and yang in the journey as well, and the light of yang shows through the dark yin, and the dark of yin makes the light of yang shine brighter. All part of the journey. And then, there is the respite of tea time. I think this story explains perfectly what it's like. And I follow people who have more mastership than I. I do not pretend I can create my own unique forms. I am content to copy others' magnificent models.

  • What's even more impressive then the visuals, is the story. Wow, nice story telling. The blackness is supposed to be his anger, caused by, let's name it: failure. By working hard and always be a step ahead of it, he is able to keep calm and finish it. The light is his mentor, and by following it he reached the final stage; doing it himself. Wonderfull!

    @TomasWille@TomasWille8 жыл бұрын
    • +Panta Gorian Judging by how the animation seems to have a sort of bias connotation against the protagonist's age group/new generation, I feel that the blackness symbolizes failure as you mentioned, as well as the uncertainty that young adults face as they come to age; Uncertainty, failure, inadequacy, anxiety, guilt, and in the context of a larger scale, the cruel world; all of which are things would have eaten him alive as it did to the dock/harbor. The black shadow is everything that young adults struggle with that the older folk have conquered. The lantern that literally guides him is the intelligence/wisdom/light of the elders showing him the way.

  • Just to let you know, I watched this when I was real young, and ever since then, i've been inspired to make more, and better origami. Today, although I can't say I am really able to create such complex peices that form things such as dragons, bugs, or real life things, I am proud that I can make original designs, not of anything real, but of some sort of intricate, strange thing, and it's different every time. I will continue to hone my origami, as it is something I am really, genuinely proud of. This video was the start of it all.

  • it's weird that people are commenting about the kid's looks, that's what they were focused on? the kids eyebrows? weird. Maybe with the green eyes and full eyebrows he is part Greek and learning from the Asian side of his ancestry? I mean who gives a shit this is a fantastic beautifully done story by some very thoughtful and talented animators and I thought the kid had a very expressive face.

    @TruNordics14@TruNordics149 жыл бұрын

    • The eyebrows were just a strange thing in an otherwise beautifully done story. One has to wonder why the artist made such an odd choice on a facial feature of the main character when he had the ability and made the choices that produced such beauty and awesome visual affects in the story.

  • The story is pretty simple. By smashing his dragon, he showed his hate for the model. The black goo trying to engulf him is his hate for origami and in order to get out of this "dreamworld" he has to show kindness toward his creations.

Give it the old "College try" without cutting it or wetting the paper, just simply folding it directly in half one of these days, and send me back your answer. I've hopefully got more time than the protagonist in this story did and can thus wait patiently ;)

  • I need to share an origami anecdote. We were having an "Induction of Class Officers" in the gym. They each gave us a paper wherein the oath for the class officers were written. While the presentation was rolling, I folded my paper into a paper crane. Some of my classmates were amused and they told me to do the same to their's. After that, they asked for the oath paper. We panicked, trying to quickly unfold it. We couldn't make it in time, so we just gave them the oath paper that was folded into an origami. The head of our Student Government asked us who folded these, and I admitted that I did. While the other class officers were leaving, we had to stay by the end of the program. There were other people (and they're from our Pilot class) who stayed too, for drawing and writing on the oath paper. She started to scold them and lecture them how this paper was going to be reused next year because our school needs to be "pro-environment". She also scolded us, asking us why they didn't stop me from folding them.

    • +James Lillie Nah. Making that many of the same origami is kind of wasteful. He could've just done it with useless paper or blank printer paper.

  • I came to this video to understand triplex origami which will help in cancer treatment and gene therapy......I was searching and trying to connect it with that topic, at the end I realised it's not on triplex origami, it's about the way we should be dedicated towards our work , we shouldn't be fearful and bored of it untill we have completed it......And I was about to do the same before watching this video, thinking to give up that I'm not able to understand triplex origami topic , but now I'll read it and understand it ...... Sometimes we found very good things, unplanned. And this is the best part of exploring, not giving up . Because if I would have given up on this topic , I'll not search for video to understand it , and I would never have found this video, which although not related to what I want to study , but something which makes me realise that I should keep trying untill I succeed and I'll do that ....😊

  • I think it is more simple then that. Grandfather wanted to teach him a lesson. He showed anger so I think is more like yin and yang. The fight against light and dark in the end he nods and grandfather knows he learned his lesson.

  • While there are some wonderful interpretations of the short story in the comments section. I would like to share my own version. I imagined the ink to be time which is soaking up the paper as it progresses. The boy has to constantly move forward until he finishes his work and to keep working even when the time is up, as shown in the end, when he completely drowns in the ink but finishes the task at hand and doing so gives him new purpose (dragon = success) to move forward. This interpretation is based completely based on my own situation, procrastination, laziness, lack of concentration and then finally the desire to be free. But after watching this amazing tale I feel I won't ever be free from my duties and there is a need to keep a clear head and perform the ongoing task to keep moving forward. This truly made my day. I am very thankful to the creators and the production company! I wish you immense success. ;)

  • Jeeeeeez! Some people just can't watch and appreciate something without mindless blabber about specific details or other nonsense. You're not movie critics people. This is excellent the way it is. If you don't get it, DON'T WATCH! Eyebrows my ass. WTF????? If you don't have enough attention span to get past that, you should stick to watching Sesame Street if its still on the air!

    • Mayuna Takakura i think the eybrows have a point in the animation,in the start his eyebrows are down,close to his eyes.....at the ending they are way up,to his forehead,just like the old man.....as if saying that his knowledge increased "see with your soul not with your eyes" or something like that lol

  • what a beautiful film. so true. it is easy to let impatience, irritation, anger, the want for instant gratification to override us. it is easy to let it creep into our lives and before we know it we are unable to sit in silence, to contemplate things and to be patient. so nice

  • Ah, the gratification that comes with mastering craftsmanship should be the focus of what we take from this, rather than darkness. Pushing oneself and not giving into defeat for the sheer displeasure of the work it requires, for the frustration is but a part of the adventure! Those that run from that frustration only become eternally trapped within it, leaving life feeling incomplete and often miserable.
