  • For the traction control, Tesla keeps it on 'slightly' in all situations because it's a nightmare to drive without it. You can enter 'Dyno Mode' and this disables traction control, providing full power to all motors. You just spin out if you even think about touching the accelerator, it becomes a death trap. Being an EV, there's too much 'instant torque' to the wheels, it blows them off so easily. :)

  • Would have liked to known if they changed the battery cooling at all? I was thinking of adding a bigger inline pump plus a small rad and fan, or forced air, and if the cooling was sorted out I would like to unlock and reprogram the inverter/controller for a bit more power. Also, it would be loads of work and expense, but I would like to alter or replace the battery pack for a higher voltage to give the car more top speed plus more power without needing to alter the motors, etc, but then you may need to replace the inverters.

  • Looks great considering the tyres but it needs LSDs! In the thumbnail you’re lifting the inside, with open diff and all that torque the VCU must reduce torque and use braking even with “stability off”. You can hear the “hopping” from the T/C, not the suspension, in some of the heavier loaded corner exits. LSDs, or less bar stiffness with more spring, or more suspension droop might help. Can’t wait too see a lap next year with the AR1s!

      @JT-xq2hv@JT-xq2hv Жыл бұрын
    • @@JT-xq2hv I think the rwd model has a significant cooling advantage compared to the m3p, which has basically the same radiator setup but draws significantly more current. But in both cases there is currently no easy way of completely addressing the cooling problem, and with my slightly modified fk8 I can continue to lap at a very consistent pace until I run out of fuel. I believe that in order to completely solve the cooling problem, the battery pack has to be modified to help heat transfer into the coolant, and the air conditioning system has to be upgraded, as the cells cannot be cooled by ambient temperature air. These mods are likely too complex for the aftermarket and personally I would wait for a manufacturer to make a track-ready ev before venturing into that.

  • You don't need to use Track Mode to launch your M3P. Track mode pumps oil through the battery to help keep it cool for long track sessions. To "Launch" your M3P (0-60 MPH), you need to have it in sport mode, have regenerative braking on, and simply smash the accelerator down. Regenerative braking does not require you to use your brake, which means you can have your foot over the accelerator pedal at all times. This improves your reaction time. So pull up to the light, have your foot over the accelerator pedal, and when the light turns green, you smash the pedal down. If you want to "Launch" even faster, you can use your GPS to locate a Supercharger, and the car will start heating up the batteries for supercharging. When the battery is hotter, it launches faster. When you are ready to launch, cancel your GPS supercharger location and then launch it. So you see, track mode does the opposite, as it keeps the battery cooler for longer track sessions and degrades your ability to launch faster.

    • Regen puts more stress on the batteries and causes them to over heat and hit reduced power mode sooner.

      @CyclistTy@CyclistTy7 ай бұрын
    • Not in any EV I've seen. Any modern EV with battery management does not stress the batteries either with charging/regen or draw.

      @ohger1@ohger17 ай бұрын
    • In every EV you have ever seen. Current flow, whether charging or discharging, produces heat in the cells. That's a property of any chemical battery. All EVs manage this by a combination of BMS limits and batter cooling (either passive or active). The Tesla allows their batteries to discharge/charge at a rate that produces heat a little bit higher than the cooling system can dissipate. With continuous high current flow and heat generation in excess of cooling capacity, the heat will build up and the batteries will eventually exceed the temperature limits determined by the BSM. Some EVs prevent charge/discharge rates high enough to exceed this cooling rate, but that also makes their cars slower. With re-gen on the Tesla will go into reduced power mode at about 1/2 of a lap at the ring. With re-gen off the car can make it about 3/4 of the way through that track before triggering reduced power mode. The exact point somewhat depends on how hard the driver is pushing the car. EVs designed for racing use battery modules with increased cooling capacity. They also have higher maximum allowed battery temperatures because their BMSs aren't trying to protect a cell for a 1000 + cycles. Different chemistries and cell packaging can change an individual cells ability to dissipate heat. Also super capacitors can be used to absorb and discharge current from brake re-gen without ever touching a battery. I am not aware of any consumer cars using super capacitors at this time, but there may be a few. They are used in Electric busses, electric trains, and racing.

  • Misha what do u think about all the people complaining about the Tesla plaid crashes in race track because of the brakes. People who crash say that the brakes are no good in race track. That they fade way to fast.

    • there is no temperature sensor, just hardcoded depending on your brake usage of the pedal.

    • I'm not even going to pretend I didn't swap wheels for the optics, so I was certainly surprised by how much the ride improved on fully forged 9x20s. Those Ubers must be really heavy. As for performance, a friend of mine made repeatable 3.1s 0-100 kph runs on Dragy so obviously there's a benefit. I'm getting wheelspin on roundabout exits where this never happened with the Ubers (same exact tires transferred over) so I personally think traction control is (at least partly) dynamically calculated and not based on individual wheel speed like on an ICE car. This car is doing highly sophisticated footwork to let us savages go much faster than an average Joe has the skillset for, lol.

Can that shop add an extra motor to the existing electric motor or drive shaft for more performance like a turbo addition to a combustion engine ? Lol I must patent my idea

    @kenrossaukrsa@kenrossaukrsa2 жыл бұрын
    • The battery pack is already at maximum output so an extra motor wouldn't help. The Model S Plaid however does have 3 motors because it has a bigger pack with more power output. In fact all three motors have so much power they are carbon fiber wrapped to allow for around 20,000 rpms!
