These vets are absolute angels. Our pets cannot speak up for themselves, so it’s our job as their people to advocate for them to keep them happy and healthy!
❤️
Amen to that.
@@BondiVetis there any way of knowing what the med the dog took? I have Syringomyelia and desperate to find something to help with it.
The regular pain relief for it is gabapentin. My little rescue cavapoo has it and apparently it starts at around age 2...she was given up at 20 months. The meds are ridiculously pricey for 1 months suppy. I tried buying it online but my vet will only prescribe it month by month and will charge me £21 for the prescription anyway. It does seem to be working well at suppressing the worse of it but she has a malformed spine and no tail too so she has alot to deal with. I was informed that it's a breeding issue, whereby people want the cute little head but the brain swells. The back of their flat skull doesn't allow the cerebral fluid out. Humans suffer from it too.
Asked Scotty about the aftermath of this case. Toby lived happily and pain free till 14 years of age 🙏🏻
This just made my heart melt and cry soo many happy tears.
Marion is an amazing owner. She clearly loves her animals.
I actually did some research on syringomyelia, specifically in Cavaliers, for a college paper about health issues in pedigree dogs. The constant scratching is a dead giveaway for this condition. It's really good that Toby was able to get treatment and be more comfortable.
I've never heard of it! sounds so hard and sad
What a beautiful dog! Toby is a love ❤️. So glad he has relief
there’s a major difference between purebred and wellbred. those papers do not apply to wellbred/ethically bred dogs that have had proper titling and health testing. make sure to do proper research on ALL sides before making generalized statements about all “pedigree” dogs. :) and ethically bred pug/cavalier (that still fits the breed standard!) will always be less prone to health issues than an unpredictable shelter mix.
@@gemuhcrayford1321 even health tested and wellness dogs can develop conditions such as these. They never mentioned wellbred dogs, certain breeds of pedigree dogs are prone to certain conditions. Don’t be so condescending
@@gemmawilson4606 it’s not condescending it’s a fact. Well bred dogs aren’t often used in studies. For example it’s not the same but find me one well bred pedigree on the TV for example. There are poorly bred pedigrees everywhere so people think this is the norm unfortunately. I’d be very interested to see any studies on the health of mixbreeds but unfortunately since you’re getting such an unpredictable dog in front of you it’ll vary so much. It’s definitely an interesting read. And don’t think I’m anti pedigree, I grew up with doodles and I think they’re amazing dogs. I just don’t agree with their breeding unfortunately
Very warm and honest episode. What a smart lady.
Cavaliers are the sweetest dog possible. So sad how they suffer from a bunch of serious health issues with no cure.
Violent scratching in a Cavalier is a dead giveaway for syringomyelia
i know how Toby's owner feels they are your life and your world
I love how these vets get that they aren't just a dog or cat or whatever; they are family. We need their love as much as they need ours. I take joy in spoiling my dog. What makes her happy makes me happy. It takes a special person to be a good vet.
Marion is lovely lady. Her toby boy, thankfully got help him disease. Thank you Dr. Scott, and another clinic💖🐶. Healthy dog, happy owner, Marion´s heart is gold💝.
My heart goes out to this lady.I am a cavalier lover, too.
Geez - brought me to tears in the first few minutes!
I always love watching this show and seeing the recoveries as well as the heartaches. I'm always glad that these pets can have their good quality life, even more now that I've lost one of mine this year.
@Sile Neshoba: Condolences on the loss of your beloved fur baby. 😢
This breaks my heart that animals suffer with this. As a human that has syringomyelia it is so painful and totally can wreak havoc on the body. I'm happy that vets are well versed as human Dr's aren't quite up to par in the human equivalent.
When she said I feel quite relieved I actually was able to take a breath. Toby will have a wonderful life all thanks to the Angels on earth known as vets. God Bless You All.
I'm only in 1 1/2 minutes and I'm already tearing up knowing what the outcome will be. So sad for this cute dog and the owner. I love how Scott is so caring and understanding. Hopefully she'll have some good time left to enjoy with Toby without too many issues.
Dr Holger, what a lovely lovely man!
I'm glad your his mom
I am so impressed that the vets are able to recognize a diagnosis for a dog with a small set of symptoms.
They are amazing!
Toby is a gorgeous Cavalier!!!!
Scott is such a compassionate vet ❤️❤️
These vets are amazing, I keep going back to when I had to order a vet to get off of my dog, he was wrestling him to the floor to take his temperature while trying not to get dirty! 🤬
This type of thing happens more often than most people believe.
That is what a responsible pet owner does. Keep them healthy and happy for as long as we can until the bad days start to out number the good days and then think of the animal's quality of life and NOT WHAT WE WANT. Hanging on to our animals because we want them to be with us even when they are in pain, can't go to the bathroom on their own, can't move, can't eat or drink is no life for them. That is just selfishness on our part.
Marion is a wonderful person to have such love for Toby. Amazing what skilled veterinarians can do. Thank God for those vets that did a miracle. Hope Marion and Toby can now be at peace and enjoy life together. Wonderful.
Please tell Marion that Toby & Harry are beautiful. We've lost ours recently. They have a wonderful Momma. Signed with tears... Louise Mc Phail.
We can't give up on our animals.
The vet is so gracious in a tough situation and in a simple one.
I hope Toby and Marion get to spend a couple of year's more together just a beautiful little boy 🙏💔😢XX
All these vets there are beautiful ❤️ thank you for all you do for all the beautiful animal s.
Wow,that treatment did have a good effect. What a beautiful boy.
OK, I love Dr Holger😍
So LOVELY!!
It is NOT rare in Cavaliers.
Time goes too fast and before you know it your dog is getting to the elderly years and health problems start showing themselves. I’m happy they can treat Toby and that he can live relatively with a lot less pain. Dr. Scott is so compassionate to his patients and to their owner. Thank you Dr. Scott for taking such great care of everyone!!🥰
Way too quick Pam! My lad is 12….. was a puppy yesterday
Siringomielia absolutely isn't that rare "The incidence of Chari Malformation (CM) in the CKCS breed is an estimated 95% and current studies suggest that SM is present in more than 50% of dogs with CM with approximately 35% of affected dogs exhibiting clinical signs." "The prevalence of syringomyelia was 25 per cent in dogs aged 12 months, increasing to a peak of 70 per cent in dogs aged 72 months or more." It actually vety prevalent.
In cavaliers and some other toy breeds yes - but overall rare in the dog population
@@rawexplorer8373 the dog is literally a breed that synonymous with the condition. It's common in Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Griffon Bruxellois. But It's also known to occur in Chihuahua and Matese.
My 5 and a half years old little Soleil has this condition and, how I wish there was a cure. But, thank God, her medicine helps and, so far so good🤞🏻
This surgeon is great! I've never seen him on Bondi before, hope to see more of him.
Thank you for this video
I have this condition as a human. Its downright aweful!
Another good episode. . I feel painfully or violently scratchy multiple parts of my body all the time these days but I can ignore them. Haha😅
Living in California I am envious of the interaction with her vet. Most vets here have become profit driven. So sad.
After our beautiful Penny, a Cavalier King Charles was diagnosed, we found out 70% of the breed suffers from this. We lost Penny within the year from a very aggressive cancer. Absolutely love this breed, very sweet, loving breed, full of fun great companions.
My 5 year old chihuahua has this plus chiari malformation causing hydrocephalus he’s had a shunt fitted in his brain to drain the fluid away it’s a dreadful condition and not easy treated just taking one day at a time it’s been 18 months since his diagnosis the shunt is helping a lot but he has a lot of paralysis in his legs due to the fluid pockets in his spinal cord
I am a human with Chiari malformation. It is a terribly painful condition.
@@thechronicmommy180 so sorry to hear that god bless you ❤️❤️❤️
I would love to know what treatment Toby was on as I have a little 6yr old Cav Lola who we believe has the same condition, exactly the same scratching constantly! The vet has tried gabapentin (I think it’s called) and she was on quite a strong dose but it didn’t do a thing, the scratching didn’t decrease at all! Thanks and so glad he had a long and prosperous life. 14 is a great age for a Cav! ❤❤
Hi, I don’t know if you’ve looked into it, but there’s an expert Clair Rusbridge who has a treatment flowchart to work through different options to see what works best for each pup. Personally, my pup ended up needing surgery, but he is doing fantastically now.
What medicine do they generally prescribe for syringomyelia? Looks like she was using a dropper.
Yay Toby! ❤️
I have syringomyelia and it’s horrible to live with every day is a struggle
«Rare»? Cavaliers are prohibited to breed in many countries because of SM, it’s impossible to avoid its that common!
aww
Doctor something is wrong with one of your finger.
What do you mean, rare? Most CKC spaniels have syringomyelia. It's been bred into the breed
Not all are though symptomatic and thats the problem :(
My cavalier after 11 years never showed any signs of that disease, prolly Cus she has a big head 😄, I love my cavalier
God bless.
My Cavalier is diagnosed with syringomelia she is having a Gabapentin + Prednicare which is not really helping 🙁 She is only 3 years old 😢 I wonder what medication Tobey is on ? Please help.
I have almost bought a male black and tan CKC pup from a breeder. Ive been communicating with the breeder and id really love to him but after doing a lit of research on the breed I just cannot risk this misery.
If these vets charged an absolute insane fee to see my cat Mia, I would sell everything I own to pay this fee. Very impressed.
🐼 Big Panda Bear Hugs from a 69 yr old grandma in Texas, USA. 🐼 ❤ 🎀 👍 🧚♂ 🐈 🧚 🍀 💐
I wonder why the didn’t consider a shunt to relieve the spinal fluid. In any case, I’m glad medicine is an option.
I have to stop doing this to myself. I feel like the worlds softest person. I can not stop sobbing, only two minutes in jesus.
I have a 10 years old king Charles spaniel and he's always scratching she had flea treatment and I shampoo her in a shampoo that help with her skin could it be a allergy will I have to take her to the vets for the best
Syringomyelia in CKCS is about as rare as sleep apnoea in English Bulldogs. The episodes are great by whoever's making titles needs to stop making things up.
You are Bondi vets and I Used to have a cavalier And my Cavalier has passed away because I had to dogs that has passed away
His trophy just might take the form of a lunch.
My chawahwah scratches like that. What should I do?
I was actually expecting this episode to be about a different dog.... there is an episode on the 24/7 stream about another dog that has the same condition
🙏❤️🙏
First to comment! I hope Mary's furbaby lives a long and happy life. There will be bumps on the way but I wish her beautiful cocker spaniel a wonderful long life. He's so handsome.🥺
Are you sure is a cocker spaniel it looks more like a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
@@rainpuppy14 my bad~😅 I had a cocker spaniel mix dog in the family, from my mom's side. She's was so sweet to us. She passed away a few years ago.🥺
This dog is a cavalier King Charles spaniel.
Hi
Hello!!
I wonder why my dog rubbing her hindend acrossed the carpeting , can dogs get hemorrhoids ?
go to your vet.... don't ask these questions on KZhead
Worms, or something worse, call the vet!
Is it Just me or is it weird that he kissed her while walking out at 2:30
its a greeting
Well that must be a really awkward and weird greeting
@@JJK1144 no dude jts common in countries. common all over Europe and other countries dude
Dr Volk needs to fix his hair before he goes on camera.😸
Maybe Dr Volk cares more about his patients and their families than his hair.
WOW! Can't believe you've said that. Don't be so critical. The dog is more important than his hair.
