The "18" year old would often make flirtatious jokes and we had a running joke that me and him were married. Cut to a year later and this guy reveals he was a *13 year old* and just wanted to be treated equally with us. I think lying about being black is quite weird, yet I have a feeling that a lot of the people who are upset with this are the same people who openly support and encourage transgender people. They're really weird because they'll make up these bizarre fake stories about who they are, and they're often pretty bad with keeping the details straight, so it starts to become obvious after a while that they're not being honest. If you pointed out their lies, rather than admit it, they'd get extremely defensive and even hostile.

    • @EGGM4N Hi also not the person you asked, but it's a consequence of upbringing. I'm trying to be better about it now, but I still automatically lie about things I don't need to lie about. I actually have to correct myself when I accidentally lie. "Did you do your work" "Yes. No- sorry, I misspoke. Actually I didn't misspeak. Sorry. I didn't do my work." When I was a kid I'd get in trouble no matter what I said or did, so I'd come up with lies to better avoid getting in trouble. The only problem was I couldn't keep my lies straight since I wasn't trying to deceive anybody, I was just trying to avoid getting in trouble. It's not really rationalized, and I don't think it makes my life easier other than being a decent liar. It's entirely irrational and oftentimes I think "why did I say that/lie about that??" immediately after I say it.

  • I knew Xen personally, since 2018.. I wasn't close to him by any means but occasionally spoke to him and saw A LOT of drama he involved himself in one way or another and a lot of people came forward to me about him being a total freak behind the scenes.. He was openly leeching onto bigger creators than him to grow his own numbers and brag about that in teamspeak to everyone he talked to that isn't a creator (yes we still used teamspeak up until 2021-2022 for playing Minecraft). He would always try to cause problems towards creators he doesn't like, black and asian commonly as I observed, he would tell other creators he made connections with to cut off those black and asian creators who did nothing wrong but have a VERY minor conflict with him (such as killing him in a Minecraft event for example) and those creators who trust him would cut off that person no questions asked, time after time.. I asked him once as a muslim and somebody who grew up in a strongly muslim culture about how he practices religion in the US, his answers didn't add up and it seemed like he didn't know what he was talking about, when I pressed him harder he started to completely avoid me he was also openly anti-LGBT behind the scenes and would use all sorts of slurs you can imagine and he was very much straight (his own words) but would claim otherwise on camera and twitter, he said he went by they/he and made fun of people who go by they/them a week later.. all around terrilbe, awful human.. I'm surprised he wasn't called out for any of the stuff I mentioned or other things that I didn't mention that tens or maybe hundreds of people know due to seeing it first hand or experiencing it with him

  • When I was 12, I lied and told a middle school friend of mine that I was half Asian (I'm fully white). I did this because I was into K-pop at the time, and having watched another (clearly white) girl get bullied for expressing interest in it, I thought that claiming to be half Asian would grant me some protection in a way (like, "oh, well it's not that weird if you're Asian"). I haven't continued that lie since I was 13, maybe 14. I still feel so guilty when I think about it. I see people from my middle school around my college campus sometimes, and though I want to reconnect with them, I'm worried they'll remember my past lie and bring it up in front of our newer peers, exposing me as a liar. It was a dumb thing to lie about, but I was a scared 12 year old. Again, though I haven't continued that lie in 5 years, I still feel so stuck when I remember it. I don't know what to do. • It's a dumb thing to do, but i do think it tells a story of online culture caring about race too much. Everyone on the internet talks about this like the kid was just crazy, but there's a lot of people obsessed with black culture online. After you hear "black men are kings" or "white people shit" in a negative connotation enough times, it starts to feel demeaning even if it's subconscious. It's a social issue and i think that america's endless hold on race and politics around race are harming our developing people by how black people are portrayed. If this weren't real i don't think this lying would even cross this kid's mind. i didn't grow up around white people, and i got so much shit for being white myself i became self hating when i was that age. I feel like the extremely harsh response to this might be ignoring this possibility. I don't think the kid fully understood what he was doing

  • I struggled with compulsive lying growing up. I would make a joke in poor taste, so people would take it seriously and instead of specifying it was a joke i just lied about it. And the web just gets deeper and deeper and it feels like you cannot tell the truth anymore. Eventually i was able to grow out of it but i still dont know if i could ever re-meet those people who were in my life and open up about it all. Still though this is a bit extreme for something like that

  • As someone who just wants to make content for other people to watch and laugh at, and not as a career but just a hobby, and who doesn’t want to show my face or talk about my race, religion, or politics to make sure I’m as inclusive as I can be (and also I don’t ever want to be recognized in public or deal with the annoyance of fame) I find this incredibly annoying, I feel like people are gonna be less inclined to trust people who don’t show their entire life to prove they are who they say they are… doesn’t bode well for me.
