Lots of nonsense blabbing here , first of all, I’ve never heard that everyone buys w222 for someone else , or company , or to be driven in , or whatever , here in America we buy w222 to own it and drive it , and not to be chauffeured in , second , ambient lights in w222 are of course, possible to set up any way you like , from changing the color , to changing the brightness or turning it completely off , and so on, and so forth … w221 is a great car , but w222 is an improvement, I own w222 S550 , and it has been a fantastic car … I’m not sure what this video is all about, but I wouldn’t pay much attention to it …

In Germany the w222 is not considered a chauffeured car at all. It’s doing very good and especially since the used car market is halted due to chip crisis and long waiting list for new orders. Meanwhile you barely see any w221s anymore..same thing unfortunately for CL vs S-Coupe. You even see more s cabriolets than CLs. The only thing even rarer are SLs

neither is here in US … also not many w222 here in US , very few w223 and w140 are still around … no A or B class at all , C and E mostly , SUV are pretty common GLC , GLK, GLA , GLS
I am the driver and owner of a Mercedes s class w222 the 350d variant. What a superb motor. The best car I have ever owned, and I have owned a lot of cars... Believe me this is on a different planet to other cars.

We are different and love cars from different planets ☺. The W222 is absolutely gorgeous. I've been a sedan & coupé guy for decades, and my dream combo is Jaguar XF sedan (X250, LCI) & BMW 6 Series coupé (E63, LCI). I'm more into sporty driving than luxury and comfort.
The nonsense about design is absolute idiotic. The W222 will age like a fine wine. No doubt.
Just got a 2011 W221 S500L today with only 17000Km and still smells new. The owner has 9 cars and put this one away as he needed a Mercedes-Benz V class to chauffer him back and Forth, l am stoked..... Had pre-sale full 3rd party inspection and only minor issues surfaced. Bought it for £8000 in Hong Kong.

I bought last month a w221 2011 S500 Designo version fully loaded with rear entertainment and massage seats, ventilated seats and heated seats and so much more - lower than the market price and was well taken care of. it was a rare catch! I love it! I just wish the command can be upgraded for android play. I just hope future maintenance dont break my pocket :P I am in Dubai too! I would love to show you my car and feel free to make a review video!

It’s not ideal but you can always buy an FM transmitter. That’s what I have in my W221, as I can’t find an aftermarket stereo/head unit that looks close to OEM and not tacky. If you don’t known what a FM transmitter is, you plug it into the cigarette lighter port and it creates your own FM radio channel, connect to Bluetooth and play your own music.
It totally can, the best is 12.3 Android radio. Look it up ⬆️

I bought brand new a W221 AND a W222 and I must say, you don't know what you're talking about AT ALL. I will just let it be your opnion and you really should state such in your post because it's purely YOUR opinion. I don't even know where to start with this post so I will close with this, as stated I own both models and they are both amazing however my W222 has cost much less to maintain and looks nicer....in.my opinion.

White W221 SWB owner here (2013 M276 3.5 NA engine 306hp)… I wish I had the V8 but other than that, the car has been amazing over the last two+ years. Bought with 60k km on the odometer (japan import) & currently at 178k km… still looks and feels amazing and I agree that this generation will always be special.
Having said that.. I also agree with most of the comments, your review is a bit too biased and I think you can’t see it..

I might seem like a nerd, but it's better to say the 221 and 222 numbers in codenames as "two-twenty-one" and "two-twenty-two" correspondingly. I know it sounds weird at first glance, but it feels kinda better to hear than "two-two-one" and "two-two-two"...

I like the the front and back of the 222 but I prefer the side of 221.interior, I like them both. But I agree with you, 221 wants you to drive it, 222 want you to be driven. But since I don't like the 223 and who knows what the next one after that will be like, I'll take my time with 221 & 222. I'm still enjoying my 220

I have a w222 2017 S550 the car came with the executive and sports package. P. S. It came with 20" wheels.I added some 22 AMG Style 14 spoke turbine chrome wheels to it it's a beautiful car to me go figure. I've had some beautiful cars all my life. By far this is the most comfortable car to drive and to be driven in that I ever had.

I drive my S-Class's! Love the W221 too. Went from back to back W222s ('14 S550-4 & '18 S560-4 back an entire decade to the W221 ('09 S550-4)!! All V8 TTs & 4Matic.

You get one with good miles for 25-30 a 221 with low miles is only 2 or 3 grand cheaper not that much different.

@@snggarageeng In my country, it's 10 thousand more expensive than W221 (2010-2013 years mostly). It also has more electronical systems and is more popular than w221 in realibility, however, w221 is popular among young adults for that price.
W221 is in high demand because it's what most can afford!! If you can afford a 222 0r a 223 you WILL NOT IN MOST CASES, WANT A 221 LOL. But I guess that's because I have a 222 I guess but I don't see how some fenders keep's making you guys say 221

The 222 doesn’t stand out as an S class. It is literally a large C/E class. They 205 C, 213 E, and 222 S are the same exact car just small to big.
All yall saying it's what people can afford sound stupid. How you know what someone can afford. W222 with good miles only going in the mid 20 thousands there's w221 that still cost more. I can afford a w223 and still thinks the w221 is a better looking car.
Spot on! I've been driving the W221 for the past 14 years, spent quite a lot on maintenance. But I love the car and intend to keep the car until I'm too old to drive.

If you want a driver's car the S-Class is an odd choice. It's all about comfort. W222 is more comfortable.

The S Class is definitely not a driver's car. It's one of the reasons why I've never considered buying one, although I've been a sedan & coupé guy for decades.
But I would prefer the w222 facelift or pre facelift , Fine with both. According to me the best s class ever and the best Mercedes design. believe me the w222 would age gracefully. The perfect modern classic.

i do not like the 221 outside fenders int,ok dont like the look of the car, 222 much nicer outside as well as inside give it a very class look to it, only up to 2016 after that they changed the steering wheel and gave it a sporty look and i do not like that one bit wrecked that,i have 2011 E550 w212 love everything about it ,has class and a sporty look to it,the 221 if it was not for the bulge fenders i would of thought about it because the int ,is very nice but the fender lines and the front look, nope not for me i take the 222 any day,you dont buy mercedes to pound the hell out of them unless you have a C63 or E63 then you can be a speed demon tooking for a place to crash
I own a 2015 S63 sedan and I love how it switches from luxury to sports car so that I might enjoy the best of both worlds

Two weeks ago I bought a 2016 W222 with 54,000 miles. I love it. The W221 is horrible land I never even considered it.
i had w140 was big and outdated technology for me so i moved to w220 for 10 years had 4 of them then recently i got w221 sport package designo mocs metallic black and inside is designo orange and im loving it its way better than w140 and w220 but w221 size wise is like driving updated w140 i also have w222 2017 has maybach seats but fees loose vs w221 is solid and hard snd feels heavy i love it when car feels heavy you can feel lore control i can drive in n out of lanes on snowy rainy days and nor afraid because its heavy i feel the car from the front bumper to the rear bumper id say w140 was strongest of all but if you want a car that can be sport car and classy get w220 if you want classy professional and safe reliability get w221 if you eant updated technology lights looks get w222 but i have w223 i did trst drive to lease it i didnt my cousin has one s580 i dont like it too much plasticy i prefer w221 all around but get 2013 year w221 s550 and w221 s600 is the most reliable and s65 all years is good for me but w221 s550 2013 year with turbos tune ecu tcu tune tune down pipes will take on s64 and s65
soon i will have reveiw of w140 with manuel from factory

The W221 is probably selling more on the secondary market for the obvious reason that it's two generations old and is cheaper. I would still choose a W222 over a W221 as it has the features I want and I find it more aesthetically pleasing. I don't like those wheel bulges on the W221, it looks tacky and doesn't suit the sophisticated and elegant motif in my opinion.

well said actually w222 has the very DNA from W221. Combined from 2006, w222 had a 14 year run. it is the great S class after w126.
The wide fenders are what I love about 221! To each their own. The 222 looks like a big C/E class! Very disappointing. Still a beautiful car but it doesn’t stand out as an S class.
The W222 is gorgeous for sure. If I ever were to buy an S Class, the W222 LCI would be it.

Only main thing I dont really like on the w222 design is the slightly strange head lights. But strange lights seems to be more rule than exception nowadays. Then I suspect the interior quality feel is not what it used to be in the old days either. But its below par in the w221 too. Feels very cheap compared to the w116 - w140 era.

I agree with the w222 Maybach ruining the Maybach name. There is a reason w222 Maybach is much cheaper than Maybach 57 & 62. When you purchase Maybach w222 you pay extra 100,000 for Maybach logo and pillow. Maybach 57 & 62 is MADE to be chauffeured and w221 S class is MADE to be driven. I get that it doesn’t make sense for everyone to be driving 450,000 maybach and that is why w221 is still luxury flagship. When you saw a Maybach 57/ 62 in the 2000s it was so distinct and showed that you were in the pinnacle of luxury but when you see someone in a w222 Maybach it just looks like they could be driving a base s class if they don’t have two tone.
I own old w220 ...... it is not perfect but for me is good enough and beat any next generation on a materials used in the cabin real leather everywhere....... However I am a fan of soft lines and when I saw for first time w221 back in a day, my immediate reaction was "what is that "... I didn t like the interior design either..... W222 however is another story back to soft lines inside and out and back to straight 6 cylinder engines like in w220..... For me W222 is better than any S class generation up to this day even w223..... However my favorite S class design still belongs to w220.......

I disagree with most I like the interior on my 221 better it is simpler and feels like it is a better quality and put together better. It is a simple layout. The newer one has more gimmicks but I do not equate gimmicks with luxury. To me, the W221 feels like a more solid car inside and out.

You better read this: The W222 engine is worst engine ever built by Mercedes Benz MY2013 - MY 2016 the exhaust valve assembly might not work properly etc. The Water thermostat open at 217 Fahrenheit, Water Boil at 212 Fahrenheit you must remove the coolant to clean the back flow. The temperature reading in the car display never goes aver 200 Fahrenheit I check the engine temperature was 217 to 225 Fahrenheit without any fan coming on (Back flow) the manual warning on page 295 if the coolant temperature is above 257 Fahrenheit do not drive. The rigged the software like they did in the Diesel engine. The problem is “Fuel system monitor not completed” 15 states do not pass to drive the car and you cannot do anything about.
this problem is only in Diesel engiens?

I fix entirely TOO many of both models to ever own them (or any “new technological” Benzes and every one of my W124’s, W126’s and even my W114’s & W115’s from the 60’s have been sexy,reliable tanks that never left me stranded and get compliments every single day I drive them. There’s “luxurious looking” and there’s “luxurious quality” and there will not be a classic 2020’s ANYTHING on the road in 20 years because they’re cheaply made and will blow up if you hit a rabbit on the highway 😂

Cap I uses to have a w220 s430, 2002 . Now I have a s550 08 is wayyyy better than w220 inside is all cheap plastic mercedes was trying to save money when they make the w220 . W221 inside is wayyyyyy better .
