this lady is an absolute angel for teaching the girl instead of embarrassing her bc im 16 and i just got my first job and im terrified of this
Same my boss treats me like I'm stupid and doesn't let me make coffee, sandwiches, and doesn't want me to touch the register....she eats everyone else do it and their pretty much the same age as me....I feel worthless working there but I can't work anywhere else
@M Muss thanks :)
@M Muss fine
fizcuhlifa me too omg
Omg I am too and now I’m so thankful
Im 17 working behind a cash register as a volunteer, I have extreme social anxiety and get really worried that Im counting change wrong, THANK YOU FOR THIS I will watch this as many times as it takes, really appreciates it
We in the same boat sis
Just pray and remember they have to put their shoes on just like you... Everybody's equal nobody's better than the next... Don't let Satan make you think this way... Just take a deep breath pray and do your best and I promise you you will be the best behind a cash register and then we'll move on to bigger and better things in your life🙏
Yea we are all in the same boat

Me too just told my sister that I have an interview and most likely they would give me cashier and I told her I have bad anxiety
I don’t think you realize how much this helps so many people !!! You are 100% right about school not teaching us. I am 19 and I have struggled with math skills and especially counting money because ... I WASNT TAUGHT IT! And now I’m trying to get a job and struggling and you taught me and I can’t thank you enough ! ♥️♥️
Jacqueline Davis lol I am only 8 and I am really good at maths lol
Matthew Kingstone lol you still need some work on grammar i see
@@jacquelinedavis3375 maths is correct, people in the UK and Australia say maths
Ouii girl me to , I'm almost 18 and sometimes I get confused, like I can count money but the counting back for me was a little tricky
Exactly I don’t remember being taught how to count change so now every time my parents hear me tell them do not ask me to count change I look dumb
Instead of Algebra and trigonometry in high school, they need to teach this stuff! Thank you for this because I just became a cashier. I will watch this 1000 times if I have to!
Me too! 😁
They used to. When I was in grade school in the 80’s, we did entire math units on it. But much like cursive writing and time telling, it is no longer taught because it is assumed that in this age of technology, it won’t be needed.
That's why I'm home schooling mine
Eh, they should teach both.
What makes me so mad are the people who give you one amount after you tell them their total and when you go punch that amount in they say “wait a minute I found a dollar!” Or “I found a quarter!” It makes me freeze up completely and I no longer know how to help them because I get completely confused. I already typed in the previous amount! 😭 Sometimes they see me freeze up and get extremely impatient with me and start speaking to me like I am a child. This gives me so much anxiety about counting change. So thank you for this technique!
Brandnamedbecca totally feel you on this. I had this happened to me once but my manager came in just in time to help me solve the problem. Now I know that this happens so often when you’re a cashier so always be prepare. 😂
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE! I get so embarrassed with my face all red and frustrated because okay feel so useless.... I really thought this was only me...
It throws off my mental math and being put on the spot. I carry a small calculator and let them eye roll . At least my drawer is accurate
I used to work on cash and I hated it when people did that to me. It would throw me off and I felt stupid. I thought that I was the only one who was like that too. I wish that people would have a little compassion and understanding. I never do that to cashiers when I purchase some thing. I always have my money ready to give them and I don't change my mind about what to give them. I also used to work with a cashier, someone who I knew and didn't like because she was a nasty person, who had this weird method of counting the till at the end of the shift. A method that I never ever saw any of my coworkers or bosses use to train me: as she is counting through the cash she would keep deducting amounts to keep aside to come up with a total. Something like that I don't know how to explain. It completely threw me off but she expected me to know how to do it and even gave me the impression that she thought that I was stupid for not knowing how to do it. She also asked me what I would do if someone handed me a counterfeit bill. I told her that I would give it back to the customer and say that I can't accept it because it's a counterfeit. That was what I was taught. She told me no, you hold onto it and you have to call the police. I was never taught that before.
Thank goodness I’m not the only one. I feel all of you. I get all red, sweaty, and nervous and my mind goes blank and I rush to get them the change I was originally going too😂
Counting coins might not sound like a big deal to some people but for others it's a really big deal. Some people have difficulty with numbers. Some people fall through the cracks in the education system. Thank you for this video.
Yes exactly my school never taught some of us or even helped us how to count money and even change
this !!! can we normalize this instead of embarrassing people
I’m a senior in high school and in trigonometry and didn’t even now how to do this. Now I do! Thanks
Mbn🥲
Dang... This is really really common I learned this just a few years back.
I’ve had someone help me behind a cash register at a ball park because they felt bad for me and how I couldn’t count change back. It was honestly so embarrassing and I felt so dumb that day. I also get so nervous when I’m behind a register because I’m so afraid I’m going to count the money wrong and that I’m going to get in trouble for it. But now I honestly don’t have to worry about that. This video helped me so much! Thank you!!💕
I'm 18 and have never had a job before. I'm trying to get a job at this record company store and counting back change is an essential skill I have to have. Thank you.
Rhysand's High Lady I Hope Get The Job
I'm an 18 year old with a retail job and my manager just got me started on the till. She told me I needed to learn how to count change, and I have no idea what she was talking about even after she explained it 4 times. So out of my desire to not look like a total idiot, I came here looking for knowledge and that's just what I found with this video. Thank you so much! I totally understand how it works now.
I got my first job today and i will start tomorrow as a cashier I always need to count money 5 times to make sure i actually have $7🤦🏻♀️ Thank you so muchhhg
I work at a snowcone stand and never learned basic math ( literally ) it was always so complicated to me. I use a calculator everytime someone gives me a bill higher than 5 & I’ve always wanted to know how to count money without one. This is the only video I have watched that helped and I searched for months on videos to count change.
I have a learning disability so when I was learning basic math and money in school the teachers never paid attention or helped the kids with learning disability so I missed out on a lot and it's embarrassing
Why didn't you lean basic math? Interested to know.
Thank you for your generosity!!!! I have always panicked when it comes to counting back change. Schools are not teaching this.
wow i’m 20 years old and i was never taught this, thank you!
I'm 17 years old (very embarrassed rn) but always had a hard time with learning how to count back change. Very helpful video
AdrianaLife I’m 15 and I’ve always struggled with basic math😔

I wish you could have been one of my customers. When this happened to me I was 23 I'm 24 currently. And I have been shamed so much because I didn't know how to count back change. The majority of the people doing the shaming were older or elder people. If I had a customer like you it would have warmed my heart.
O.m.g. I just applied for my first job at target and I am SO scared for the job, and the fact that i don't know how to count change makes it even worse. Thanks so much for this video. It helps WONDERS!
29 years old and so grateful for this video! I was one of the unfortunate students who learned geometry/calc and not how to count back change
Thank you SO much for this video! For all the adults on here whining about people my age (I'm almost 22) they teach way more stupid stuff like geometry, algebra, and statistics far more than real life skills, even in college. I do blame calculators and technology for this, but the other half of it lies with teachers/schools that don't make basic life-skill math classes available to kids/teenagers.
I’m 16 and getting my first job next week and we have to learn to count back. I never knew how to because I was never taught so thank you so much for this.
Misha Collins I’m still kinda confused😔
i've always struggled at math when i was in school but being a 28 year old man, i realize math is pretty fun especially when in the workplace. this is good for servers,Hosts,Cashiers,Front end ant any restaurants. its never too late to build on your mathematics just start somewhere
I literally got fired last year because I didnt know how to do this and I just recently started a new cashier job. My manager has gotten so frustrated with me but I can't wait to go to work and count change back all in her face.💁🏽♀️
Flaminhot Mana you can do it girl
@@cryinqsippy pshhh I'm practically a pro now. I even do it when they give me unnecessary extra change at the end ;). Thanks lol
This really helped, I'm 17 and I'm planning to get my first job. I always had a huge struggle with money and had horrible social anxiety when it came to money. Watching the videos and doing the problems with you really really helped. I feel more confident now, but I will continue to get better at this. Thank you super much
It totally shocks me how many people (guys, gals, all ages!!) don't know how to count back your change EVERYDAY!!!! You know what's even worse, the dang people who pretty much just hand you your money without even counting it back or even telling you what you get back!!!! Ugh (I stand there, count it back to myself & check my receipt!!!) Thx for this video!!
Yes! What is up with them just shoving the money into my hand without telling me what they are giving back? I have had to learn to count back my cash. I have been ripped off a dollar or two more times than I care to admit. Thanks for the awesome comment (as always) and for watching!
You’re awesome. I’m 40yrs old and never learned this.
I'm 47 and I never remembered learning this.
I'm 34 and just learned how to do this.
She is correct school dosent teach real life skills the most they show you is howo to ruin a cake as a life skill this video is very helpfull
Thank you for people like you. Rather than judging the girl, you helped her. I have struggled with counting back change for a long time because I’ve never been good with math in general. Even my own family members who saw that I was struggling with this concept at a young age decided to act like I was stupid instead of trying to teach me. I am 18 now and I am trying to master this skill so I won’t have another embarrassing incident at my next job. They are not teaching us this in school, and it’s extremely important.
I'm 30 years old, used to do calculus in my head with no problem but I wasn't taught how to count change back this way. I can calculate the amount due back just fine but the trick of verbally counting it back to the customer from small denomination to large out of the till is not a skill I have. I just started a retail job and my manager gets frustrated with me not counting it back the way she always has (and she doesn't know how to teach apart from yelling and demeaning). This is very helpful, thank you for this video.
I am glad you found this helpful and I am sorry your manager doesn't have more patience. Hang in there.
Thank you so much! I am 18 and have gone through 3 cashier jobs (only part-time jobs available that isn’t waitress or receptionist) and I have gotten fired for my drawer being short multiple times (biggest is $20) I have social anxiety and with the customers rambling, my first instinct is to get them out so I just try to give them close to the money without counting twice. I’ve received a lot of negative feedback from older people since I take too much time trying to count.
they teach us once in middle school than by the time we get our first job we are out of practice and forgot how to count back change.
Luckily I’ve been getting a lot of people who use a credit card and have yet to worry about this - but counting back change is something I have always felt behind on. I often get nervous and mess up when someone is watching me so this was nice to know. 🥺
Thank you so much for this video. I applied to some cashier jobs and I'm afraid to count change before this video. You make it very simple.
Break this down some more for me lmao I’m still hella lost
same it’s like i get it b don’t entirely get it
Exactlyyy I still don’t get this crap. 😢😢😢😒

As soon as you count up the cents to 100 cents it's just adding up from there
Honestly people post videos on youtube and some might not imagine how you are helping someone out there, thank you for posting this.
I really needed this especially now with my new job in retail. I've struggled with basic math and counting change ever since I was a kid and it's embarrassing to be an adult who still can't but with this video and way you explained it I feel like I can finally understand it better. Thank you
I am so glad it helped you. Good luck with the new job!
@@thriftyhodgepodge5384 thank you so much for teaching me! I appreciate your efforts :)
My teacher in 3rd or 4th grade taught me this exact trick for subtraction and I've been using it in school ever since but I never realised it could be applied to change, thank you for this!
I need to know how to do this for a working interview I have and am so glad this straightforward video was here to show me how to it so clearly. Thank you for making it!
I am so glad it helped you. Good luck on your interview!
Omg this lady is going to make my job being a cashier at TJ Max so much easier thank you soo much I really appreciate this video
You are AWESOME for this honestly!! I graduated recently and I’ve never had a job so right now I’m just prepping for counting money back. Because I was never taught how to do this in school. So this is a blessing and I feel good rn 😁😁
i know this video from a few years ago but it helped me understand all of this so much better as someone that was never thought at school or by my parents. thank you!
Wow this is so helpful! I started my first job as a cashier and I'm just now hearing about this technique but you explained it perfectly! Thank you so much.
agreed on school not teaching this! just did my first shift (im 14) at a bakery and we were selling muffins out the front. this lady orders 4 muffins which were$8 in total and hands me $20 and i completely freaked out (there was no till) and i had to ask the lady buying the muffin what change i needed to give her. really embarrassing but she was super nice to me. i didnt get the last job bc i had to work on my math ;)
How are you doing now
@@jinchuriki7022 so good with money now luckily!!! Selling those muffins without a till def helped me gain confidence and I learnt that really there is no rush and to take my time :) I still work at the same place
Let's say your total was $27.96 and the customer gave you $30, plus some change ( let's say 52 cents) - how would you count the total that time, b/c ppl who give me coins with their bills is what screws me up.
I wish the school system would actually taught us this! Because they’re more focused on way other things than just life skills that we need 100%
Thank you so much for this video! I'll be working a carhop position soon, and so, I have to do a ton of on the fly math and it's been stressing me out. This has helped out a ton!
Thanks. I'm older and haven't used this in forever! Great refresher
Thank you for helping a dummy out! I watched another video on how to do this and I was so confused but it only took me a minute to under this!
Im 23 and the idea of counting back change seems simple but also hard. I dont have a problem counting back full dollar amounts, the change is the confusing part. Just break the change down until you get to the dollar amount, then do the bills. Cant always rely on a calculator but I keep my phone with me just to be sure.
I started working at Napa. It's a mix of working in the back and up front. My co worker was dumbfounded that I didn't know how to count change back. Never learned this in school.
thank you for actually breaking it down cause people will speed through the explanation instead of breaking it down and call it teaching
Thank you so much for showing us this and taking your time to explain how to count change accurately.
Thank you so much for this video! I just got hired at my first job as a waitress (I also run the cash register and have some other duties). I never learned how to count back change, and thought it was highly difficult. Now it seems almost too easy!
I appreciate your video so much !!!! Im working with a little girl that i babysit who is very smart and sometimes it just takes listening and being shown by someone else to boost their interest to get something accomplished . Thank you so much and your right our kids are missing out on so many life skills when they are taught more of something that is not an everyday skill .
Dude I’m 19 and delt with this for a long time the main reason why I I’m not confident In myself enough and scared to be embarrassed and really holding me back from jobs I want I’ma get this down packed I’m not gonna let this impact my life and my goals I’m tired of this I’ma work on this.
I was never taught this. Thank you! You made it so simple to understand. Going to try this on my own.
She didn’t think you were a magician she was surely embarrassed but your were sweet about it. People like you are saints in this world.
I’m about to get my first job and I want to make sure the interview is perfect. It’s been so long since I’ve done this.
Thank you so much !! Sophomore and learned something new !
Back in third grade I never learned how to count change, I don’t understand this video yet but i’m gonna practice
The way I showed might not click with you and that is ok. Everyone learns differently. Please watch some other videos on it and maybe one of those will help. Keep practicing! You have got this! I believe in you!
I've understood this method, but never was shown. I have to be shown to process how to do things, correctly. Ty ☺☺☺☺☺
Life skill exactly they don't teach you that in school which is something they need to rethink
I'm so glad for this video. I didn't realize I wasnt taught this until my first cashier job and I panicked. I used to use calculators but I always wanted to learn because I didnt like that I couldn't count back change. I figured it out after a while but it would have been better to have been drilled on this the way they drilled algebra and geometry and trigonometry in school. Thank you for this video. 💖💖💖
Your a life saver, I am a carhop at Sonic and now I know how to do this to an extent.
Helped a lot! You’re a great teacher
No way you make it so much easier for me thank you because school mad it hard and I never got it until you🥰😝💯🤷🏽♀️
Me: oh that makes sense, I think I'm getting it! Also me after every example: uh. Wait. Do it again 😂
Thanks! I am 19 and working retail, and handle cash every day at work. I knew about this method, just never understood it/used it. Deeply appreciate it👍
Thank you soooo much. I start work behind a counter today and this video is helping me so much to calm my nerves
This was perfect I’m a car hop at sonic and just started this helped tremendously!!!
i actually didnt know how to count change back with out anything helping me thank you this was so helpful!!
Great video. Thank you very much your an excellent teacher. Us dyslexics appreciate your help!
Thank you so much!! I felt like such an idiot for not knowing how to do this. Thank you so much for giving us multiple examples!
Thank you for helping me out I'm not that great in Counting bless up 🙏
Just got my first job as a front counter girl and I start on Monday. Thank you so much for this helpful video!
Congrats on your first job!
Thank you for posting this video... it was very educational... Like, commented, & Subscribed!
So true! I was never taught this at school. Everything else I was taught, I never used in my day to day. Beside counting back change, another one is counting a large sum of money in an organized way as from the hundred dollar bills to the one dollar bills.
Thanks so much for this good tip on how to count change! This will help me tremendously!
Omg thank u so much !!! I finally understand this after so many years
Thank you for this video and thank you for doing this multiple times. I often need multiple examples for me to go “OH! I GET IT NOW!” I’m looking for a job and have never really had a job in counting back change. But this way actually makes it look kinda fun.
So grateful for you. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for this Video!! I have never had it broken down like this before you made it seem so easy and simple I hope you upload more!! Please do. I really need to learn more. Thanks Again!! Thrifty Hodgepodge.
They go over this in elementary school. Or at least I think they do. However, if your like me and were in special ed. They don't focus on it. So I never learned to count change.
It only took my 4 minutes just to understand this thank you so much I’ve been needing to know this seen I somethings give change for my moms customers and would get upset when I couldn’t do it and she’d get mad for it but now I can’t wait to show her!
I am glad the video helped ☺
Thank you thank you thank youuuuu! This was so helpful. I struggle with dyslexia and it's at its worst with the cash register as I'm jumbled with numbers and letters which are essentially meaningless if they're in my head like alphabet soup. The cash register does the math for me, but sometimes I mess up in entering the cash received. This let's me work it all out mentally where it makes more sense. I've been shamed a few times for looking frazzled during transactions. Compassion helps so much.
Thank you so much 🙏🏽 I said prayer about this and search for answer and you were there ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! It was good to hear that. I hope the video helped you.
Planet needs more like you.
thank you so much!! this really helped a lot!!
I have trouble with counting money in this is helping me so much we need stuff like this in school it’s plenty of kids who doesn’t know how to count money I recommend this video
Thanks for the video! I'm not from USA so it was difficult for me the money change but now it seem very simple, l even going to show this video to my boy. Thanks again.
Thank you so much im about to start a job and im going to need this so o really appreciate this
This is a great video. You are awesome lady!
Omg Thankyou for this, i started my first job and im awesome at it but i freeze when it comes counting cents I was never taught any of this 🙏🏾
Thanks so much, you're a life saver!
This was so super helpful! Thank you :)
PURE GENIUS! THANK YOU 🙏🏻❤
You are welcome. ☺
Im in 7th grade business class we’re learning about this and I was always ashamed of counting money but thank you this helped:)
You surely are a big a big help. I was always afraid that my calculator will stop working on me whenever I sell food to the students outside our cafeteria where I work. Thank you sooo much! 🙏😁
Thank you for helping me count change.. Cheers!!!
Im a kid (im not gonna say my age) and I've supposed to learn how to count change back in like 2nd or 3rd grade, I cant remember when I was supposed to learn this but this is actually helping me you thank you.
Haha My math teacher used to get so mad at me for saying "when will I ever use this shit in real life?!" And yeah, they dont teach this and I graduated over 12 years ago. I imagine it's even worse for younger students.
