Please just pay with card. Please just pay with card. *Please just pay with card.*
Vanity Fr!!
Currently just was me 😂😂😂
Relly Rose seriously 😂
I always feel bad going to stores bc as a teen all I get is cash and I know it's easier for both parties if I just pay with card 😅😅
I’ve never related more..
I am good at math, but i can't think well when i am under pressure because my mind goes blank.
Ahmad Zaydan saaaaame bruh then folks will start to think I’m slow or something
I thought it was just me.. And people look at u like u should be in special Ed or something.. 😂 but i want to know why that happens to me
Ahmad Zaydan that’s how I am. But I mostly forget about everything. 😫 it’s sad.
Ahmad Zaydan and then I start downing myself. 🥴

It's not that the cashier's can't do the math. It's the asshole customers that make it difficult, by getting an attitude and yelling at you if their change isn't handed to them in .01 seconds. Thank you for the detailed video ❤
We can all be assholes. Remember that, and maybe it will help to deal with those people when it happens to you.
Emma Nicole thank you for writing this. I feel the same way
Exactly
Never been rude to one unless their rude to me common courtesy
Imagine Being a cashier at Truck Stop ugh...the attitude there is hideous
the problem with me is that i have a lot of anxiety and forget simple things when I'm under pressure. so I just completely forget everything I'm doing when I have bad anxiety.
Me too 😔
Same! Even during my cashier training I was internally having a panick attack. What makes it worse is that the register times us too. I hate it.
You just described me accurately. I was denied a promotion to manager at a job because I couldn't count back change at the register. Very frustrating and embarrassing.
Sameeeeeeeed and I don’t even like people bruh
Sameee
Me gets straight As my entire life, can’t count how much money to give back to someone under pressure.
Oof
Same here 💀
I felt this
Bro that's something like me I am about to be 17 and I accually don't know how to give a change. That's why I would not say something like other people do like for example ohh your stupid or ohh you don't know how to count. That is not the case in school they don't teach something that would be helpful in the feature time. I wish I could be cashier but me being cashier would be hard for me.
EXACTLY, I always have that fear that I might make a simple mistake of just giving the wrong amount of money
All these comments are making me feel so much better like holy crap I thought I was literally the only one who struggled with money
ME TOO, I FELT STUPID 😭😭 but after reading so many comments that I can relate to, I feel a little better about myself :,)
Fr I feel like everyone knows how to work one and I feel dumb af
@@petrichorweather350 Wrd ong I’m old asl and don’t know how to count change like that it’s frustrating
Omg, me too! I thought I was the only one. I honestly get scared to apply to jobs that deals with it.
I literally gave 12 dollars for an amount that was supposed to be 2.80
I have never felt more understood in a comment section in my life. Being a cashier is rough and people typically don’t seem to have much empathy. Love to all of you guys!!
😅🤣😭 FOR! REALLY! ME TO
Yeah it would have been great if they would have taught useful shit instead of trigonometry.
wth is that
@@cruse1177 That's exactly what I said when I was a student. We don't know, either. 😅
HOW BOUT THAT'S THE DAMN TRUTH!

So true.
I'm one of them person that is so afraid of being a cashier anywhere because I'm afraid of giving out the wrong change and having panic attack 😫
I have bad luck with registers

Am I really the only one that just got my mind blown? I would do it the hard way and I would subtract the $17.89 from the $20 in my head. All this time I just needed to count up. 😩

That's crazy and im going to the 12th grade and even tho i was taught basic math my math teacher didn't teach us this
Bro Im an adult had 4 jobs involving money and am just now learning this. God I blame the school systems and their rigid teaching methods
@@DavidMartinez-ec5is I feel you brother that's now one of my long term passions, fix the fuck out of education. We need people with excellent mental math and better critical thinking skills for god sakes. We are deprived from good skills and I'm sure it's on purpose.
Just got my first job. Terrified of messing up at the register cause my grandpa told me if the money doesnt add up right at the end of the day, you could get fired. Definitely going to practice this all day. Lol
U got this
How it went for you with the job
literally me rn lol
sammmme im so scared
How did it go lol
I just got a training day on the register and I prayed every time they would just use a credit card I hate money it gives me anxiety lol
Exactly Thankyou!!!! So much me too
I just started a job at my movie theater and honestly this is how I feel too it’s so much easier for me to just swipe their card and give them their receipt and whatever else.
first day of working at dunkins and this one sketchy guy gave me ALL change :) the total was 20 something i wanted to SCREAMMMM

I have chrometophobia fear of money i struggled to get a job because that means I have to work as a cashier, most of the time I fear of just giving the wrong change, I avoided counting money and this has caused me to grow up being clueless in the work industry, but this was very helpful and hope to keep learning so that I can finally be able to work, so thank you for making this video:)
Julissa; It might help if you don't think of it as money. Think of it as play money or Monopoly money. Just be sure you count it out correctly and you'll do just fine!
I have the same fear
Same solution: Just pretend it's not REAL money... but be VERY careful counting it back. In time, your fear will diminish.
Sorry
julissa vazquez Right 🤦🏾♀️ I don’t know how I’m not good at it
I’m actually really grateful for this video. Even at 40, every job I’ve had has machines that do the math for me and no one ever taught me how to count the change back to the customer. Ive always felt a bit ridiculous for not knowing so it’s time to. Thanks 😊
But then the customer wanna play tricks after you already start counting the change they're like "Oh wait, let me give you a dime and 100 dollar bill instead"
😂😂
And at that point I be like I already processed it
And I hate that
🤣😂 boy whaaatt
oooooo I hate that it's like they're trying to confuse you 😔
Adding to the difficulty is that over 90% of customers pay with a card, which leaves the cashier fewer opportunities to practice and train. Patience and grace will also go along way for those on both sides of the counter
Eric, yes, it will... you're quite correct! We're all in this world together whether we like it or not... SO we may as well LIKE it, right? ;-)
Patience and Grace on BOTH SIDES! See now that's a way to start things off, not criticism. There's stress on both sides but that's what's really needed. Thank you for posting that.
I really like your comment. it requires patience from both ends. Not everyone is great at counting and to down someone for that is certainly not making the world better.
Eric W I actually love when people use cards. it’s so much easier and faster. everyone in the world should have a card lol
@@ajaiy I use my cards alot for the same reason. But we should still use cash and traditional skills like counting money for events like when the power goes out, etc. Also I don't trust banks and keep a portion of my money in cash.
Thank you "Sir... ( I'm horrible at math )
the only one Mr Z when i was little my teacher's gave up on me and they where racist towards me cause I'm mixed.
I feel your pain, I am a,19 year old adult loser. Don't know how,to give back Change without messing up. It's like my mind starts clouding up, I can't think especially under pressure. Math has been a nightmare
Me too man, i almost got fired from my job because i shortened their till because i couldnt give back change properly. This video saved my job lmao
Some things may be difficult, but if you can count (and EVERYONE can do that) then you can make correct change using this system. No math, just counting! ;-)
You're NOT a loser unless you MAKE yourself a loser. So, the obvious solution is: Don't do that. Make yourself a WINNER instead! You'll be MUCH happier that way, I can pretty much guarantee it! ;-)
Being a cashier for so long has seriously improved my mental math skills and given me a really quick response time to making change.Like Emma said, it's not that we can't do the math, it's that there's a bunch of Karens who will get mad at us if we don't have lightning fast reflexes. Thank you for the video
I just started a job at mc Donald’s, and I get nervous counting money. So I start to rush and try to give them any change as quick as possible. Hopefully this helps me a lot. 👍🏾👍🏾

Hate how every job requires you to do cash register. Every job i look up even if it doesn't have cash register in the title has it in the job requirements.

The best way to confront a fear is to stand up to it. Once you do that, you'll generally find there was nothing to fear at all. It was all in your mind.
I will work there too, and I have the same fear.
Investments are a way of providing funds for the generation of future income or profits. Investing allows individuals to put money aside while they go about their daily business, let the funds work for them, and earn income for their work in the future. It is important to invest wisely, make informed decisions and carefully weigh the risks and potential rewards associated with each investment opportunity.

I'm a cashier and the computer tells us exactly the change we need. Had it not been for that I wouldn't have became a cashier. I don't suppose I had very good math teachers. But I do think with having calculators and computers around did as you said and made it a lost art. What is the computers go down or the power goes out? Still need to be able to make change.
Use the calculator on your phone personally i brang a fully charged back up phone and put it on maximum battery saving mode just to use it as back up incase the power is out.
How are you even gonna scan the items if there’s no power?
Cheers mate. You are a lovely patient teacher.

Thanks a lot - I'm getting my first job very soon and I'm very nervous about messing up with change and getting my boss frustrated with me - this helped a lot with my understanding of how to do it - thank you very much : )
How’s your job going?
Thank you so much! I am 18 and have gone through 3 cashier jobs (only part-time jobs available that isn’t waitress or receptionist) and I have gotten fired for my drawer being short multiple times (biggest is $20) I have social anxiety and with the customers rambling, my first instinct is to get them out so I just try to give them close to the money without counting twice. I’ve received a lot of negative feedback from older people since I take too much time trying to count.
I hate social anxiety so much 😭 People don’t realize how much it affects you
I hate social anxiety so much 😭 People don’t realize how much it affects you
It's very simple to do once you know it, yes, BUT understand that many of us were NOT taught this in school, at least in my school it wasn't. I had to look up how to do it online finally. I graduated high school in 2003 and I was somehow not made aware of this basic essential skill either from school or from parents/real world interactions. It's basically a subject that not really anyone talks about very much, and so therefore I was unintentionally ignorant on it for years and years. Back when I didn't know how to count change, I always saw cashiers that would count back change to me but I didn't understand what was going on. And when I would ask people about it, most would give arrogant responses like "what you don't know how to count?"which really ticked me off because that does NOT explain what the process is, and *_obviously_* I know how to count 1, 2, 3, etc. Nobody ever once simply told me that all you do is take the amount paid and count up to that amount from the price of the purchase to get the correct change.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Thanks so much for making this so easy to comprehend. When they taught us in school I never really undslerstood that, and its affecting me in my adulthood. I'll be working at an amusement park selling tickets and merchandise and this....this is what I needed. Many thanks.
I remember having to learn this in my first job at a fast food drive thru. At the front, you could just use the computer to figure out the change, but at the DT you're getting several tickets. Always had to count back change. It's definitely a "lost art", just because it really helps protect yourself when a customer springs up the change last minute.
I strongly agree with you mate. Investment is the key to sustaining our financial longevity, and not just any investment but an investment with guaranteed return.
To earn more you are required to have a multiple diversified stream of income, which is why investment is an avenue of making more money once it's profitable.
Crypto currency is one strong means people are raising their financialstatus now, so when you think investment I recommend you make it an option
It's professionally recommended to trade your coins with experience brokers, who can help grow your coins while assisting you learning the trade
into the financial mainstream. Crypto currency gradually being entrenched
l also can be a profitable in trading all it will take is determation and mentoring even though you lose money you keep on trying
I’ve received return change like this in my day & never quite understood how it was done. So now I know that I’m not the only one that would just trust that I was given back the correct change. Thank you for the simple easy to learn technique, will teach my homeschooled children. Stay blessed with much success!🙏🏽
This is the best analogy ever! It’s weird because I can do this hands on like you, but in my mind it’s not there. I need paper to subtract something like $20.00 and $17.63 but counting up is the easiest way when you do it in your mind!
Round up the 63 cents (with 2 pennies ) to 65 add 10 cents that'll make it 75. a quarter will make it 18.00 then with the bills 19 and then 20.
I literally got an A in precalculus but I can’t give back change sometimes,,,,my mind fogs up.
good job in explaining thank you for that
Hi Tyrone, thank you, that's very gracious of you!
Emory Schley thank you I'm getting a job that doesn't have an electronic cash register so this was a big help
It's as easy as... well, counting! ;-)
Suppose their total is $10.58, but they give you a $20.58. How do you know what to give them back? Isn’t that so they could get a full dollar in return?
note: always say what denomination the customer gave you ("out of ten" for example) and keep the bill visible yet out of customers reach until the customer gets their change. that way they can't claim they gave you a bigger bill and get more change than they're owed
I am good at math, but my mind isn't a calculator and can't compute fast without pencil and paper.
Hey Schley Guy! I loved the video. My grandfather taught me how to count back change in this exact way and used to practice with me until I could do it in my sleep. My 15 year old son just got his first job and asked me about working a cash register and counting change. It'd been so long since I'd done it I needed a refresher and I found your video. So many memories came back to me in an instant of my grandfather teaching me. That again for the video and thanks for the memories. Kind regards, G
all i can say is.... wow....... mind blown
Thank you, I appreciate it!
What a clear, concise job you did of teaching this! I've been cash handling so long I no longer think about it, really, I just do it. I was looking for an example of how to *teach* it to somebody, as I'm undertaking a project with my workplace to help teach underprivileged teens job skills, and you've helped me organize my thoughts beautifully for that task. Thank you!
Thank you! I need to teach my team at work how to count back change. Your video will go into my training session!

Getting a job soon and was very worried when they said I'd have to do the register. I just wanted to be a stocker so I could just move things to the right place. I seriously didn't think it would be this easy! My brain just didn't compute that all I had to do was count up.

Did you? The job I got interviewed for doesn't let us use a calculator, it's going to be very bad for me.

I work as a cashier and sometimes it's just a matter of how tired I am and the attitude of the customer that determines how fast I give the change. I don't appreciate being yelled at or asked if i can count just because I'm taking more than two seconds to give the change.
I just wanted to say your video was the ONLY video KZhead that was easy to understand and straight to the point. Both my kids learned how to count back money from this video. THANKS,THANKS, AND THANKS AGAIN!!!
This man is so wholesome, thank you so much for this, it's easier this way. I'm not very good at math but this is so helpful.
Learning how to work a cash register is the sort of thing that should be taught in elementary school once the children have their numbers down. I was never taught this in school. Children should also learn other practical things related to math when they are old enough to understand like having a bank account, saving money, doing taxes, how a bank loan and a mortgage works. They should learn how math applies in everyday life: what multiplication, division, fractions and other math concepts are used for.
I'm on the hunt for a job and have started getting anxious about handling people's money incorrectly. My mother showed me this method and I've been happy ever since. Thank you for sharing this with everyone!
Kayla, thank you, but it's not a system of my invention. It's just the way it was always done in EVERY store before cash registers got so "smart"! ;-) You have a wise mom, be thankful for her!

Thank you for this video. After working retail for a few years I was horrified to realized I'd began to rely on the register. This after making mental change for up to three people at once during bake sales growing up. Nobody's perfect and there are times when I enter the wrong number into my register and I'm setting out to make it sure I can figure out the change for the CORRECT number without grabbing for my calculator.
Love this! I've been doing exactly this for over 15 yrs now so it is just a habit. Also, the customer will never complain that you shorted them change.

Mr. Schley, I came across your video after my boss at my new job (for what it's worth, I work in a small business that repairs electronics and computers) had serious concerns about me mishandling change on my second day of employment. I found your video to be very insipiring in helping me to hopefully address my (and my boss's) concerns about the matter.

Wow, my gen z mind was just blown 😂 So let’s say the total comes out to $6.56 and the customer gives me $10, all I have to do is ADD UP. 🤦🏾♀️ So get 4 pennies to equal 60, then 4 dimes to equal $7.00. My problem is they always give me extra change after I put their original payment in and I always accidentally subtract in my head, instead of adding, so I end up messing up anyway I already had the amount I needed to give you in my head, now I have to try and redo it without looking confused and without messing up your change anyway haha

Wow! Thanks so much! We weren’t taught this way in school. You made it so simple! :)
It IS simple. I don't know why they don't teach stuff like this in school anymore. Makes no sense to me at all!
Now they're teaching common core math. This simple math problems of counting change would be turned into having to use 3 sheets of paper to figure out the answer using common core math. They're keeping us all dumbed down for a reason.
Thank you so much I’ve been wanting to learn this for so long
