Hakim Sanai ~ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 ~ Sufi Mystics

A reading of Sanai's beautiful and profound, The Walled Garden of Truth. Translated by David Pendlebury.
Born in Ghazni in the south of Afghanistan sometime during the eleventh century, Sanai is considered one of the most influential early mystics from the Persian region. Despite his strong influence not much is known about his life and much is gleaned from his poetry which is often autobiographical. His name is generally spoken of in the same breath as Shaikh Faridu’d-Din ‘Attar, both of whom are have been a major influence on those mystics and poets who followed in their tradition. Rumi acknowledged Hakim Sanai and Attar as his two primary inspirations, saying, “Attar is the soul and Sanai its two eyes, I came after Sanai and Attar.”

  • Thank you for all these wonderful videos, Samaneri. I’m a man in my mid 20’s and about a year ago I experienced an awakening that has, is, and forever will change me to my core. I considered myself, up until last year, a hardcore atheist and someone that laughs at people who consider themselves religious or spiritual in any sense… but now I almost tear up at the thought of me having no connection to my divine source. I went to university and got a business degree just like almost every member of my family, so that therefore I could be hired by a good company, become a successful businessman and ultimately make lots of money… and thats exactly what I’ve done. Now I spend every day in a life where I feel completely alienated from the people around me due to these heavy realizations being unveiled to me. I find serious warmth and familiarity with your videos and they give me hope that one day I will be able to actually make a proper change in my path so that I can abandon this “life of business” that my unawakened self has set up for me. Until then I shall keep the balance. Thank you Samaneri❤

  • Your videos have helped me actually meditate properly for the first time. I always struggled with ADHD and that made meditating seem impossible. I have never really had a sense of spirituality and my psychedelic experiences have always shattered my view of reality and I could never seem to align my beliefs with any practical spiritual advice. Absolutely nothing you say in any of your videos conflicts with my beliefs and it resonates so much with me. I never would have gotten into this without psychedelics. They literally showed me and allowed me to experience nonduality first hand. I used to be skeptical and overthink when hearing Buddhist teachings, but now it's so obvious and I just *know,* and I almost feel they allowed me to skip a few stages of the path to enlightenment... we'll see.. Your pace is so wonderful for being present. I usually would click off a video instantly if It wasnt stimulating enough, but I dont feel that with your videos. I have not been well off since covid happened, but as soon as I get enough spending money to play with, I'm sending it straight to you!

      @jswjanjan@jswjanjan2 жыл бұрын
    • Hi there, these are probably old recordings where I used some copyrighted music in the video so YT plays ads to collect revenue for the record company which is fair enough. I have no control over this. Sorry about that, but this channel is not montezied from my end. There are many ways to overcome this though. On your end, you can simply install an adblocker on your device (search Google for them - many are free); change your browser to "Brave browser" - it blocks all ads on all sites; or Join KZhead Premium to have an ad free experience. The other easy option is to listen to my recordings (and download if you wish) either on my Google Drive or the many Podcast platforms (Spotify, etc..) where there are no ads. You can find links to all of these in the top right-hand corner from my Home page on my You Tube channel. Hope you can find some good options as there are many! The ads will only appear on those readings where the music is copyrighted and I am trying to avoid this now as much as possible these days. Warm regards

    • Thanks to your kind heart and words.. Soto is the path chosen. I (small I ) hears God in this talk, and I react with an opposition that covers my confusion. Is the finger pointing inward so that what has always been will be revealed? Or the finger pointing outside of self to a God that is seldom heard within our sangha or from the Roshi?

      @hannahlily11@hannahlily119 ай бұрын
    • @@hannahlily11 The phrase "The pure one unites two in one; the lover unites three in one" reflects a mystical and spiritual perspective in Sufism. This expression uses symbolism to convey deeper meanings related to unity, love, and the devine. 1. The Pure One Unites Two in One: This part of the phrase suggests that a pure, transcendent essence can bring two separate entities or aspects together into a single, unified whole. It could refer to the idea that the divine or a higher reality unites dualities, showing that they are ultimately connected. 2. The Lover Unites Three in One: The "lover" in this context often refers to a seeker of divine love, someone who yearns to be united with the divine. The phrase "unites three in one" could represent the lover's journey to merge their own individual self with the divine and thus transcend duality. It may also hint at the idea of unity between the lover (seeker), the Beloved (the divine), and the act of loving itself. Overall, the phrase conveys the spiritual themes of unity, transcending duality, and the transformative power of love. It reflects the idea that deep spiritual experiences can bring about a sense of oneness and interconnectedness that goes beyond the surface-level distinctions of the material world. Through the power of the love of the divine, a seeker can achieve unity with the beloved by transcending duality and individuality (ego), which is the soul's ultimate goal

    • I take two-in-one to refer to non-duality, and for three-in-one I couldn’t help being reminded of the trinity/triune of conventional religion. However, Stephenson’s translation goes: “The man of pure heart unites the two worlds in one; the lover makes but one out of all three abodes.” I am not an expert on Islamic theology but I guess some sort of tripartite division of the three worlds/realms is a fairly ubiquitous notion, be in heaven/hell/human realm, material/intermediate/spirit realm, etc. I can only suppose the import is that the lover/tassawuf is even transcendent to the conventional spiritual aspirant; I recall reading much Sufi poetry that makes this distinction

      @Interspirituality@Interspirituality4 ай бұрын
    • @@Interspirituality right, I can see that reasoning, thank you. Another question I had about this, is are the pure one and the lover the same being/perception?

      @hannahlily11@hannahlily114 ай бұрын
    • @@hannahlily11 Hi Hannah - I guess in the ultimate analysis /everything/ is the same being/perception :-) I suppose some Sufis create such a distinction simply in order to extoll the superiority of the way of the heart and to challenge the intellect and for other instructive reasons. I recalled what I was reading - these selections from Sheikh Abol-Hasan (Noble Samaneri has also recorded some of his stuff), which seem to make a distinction between even the pious and religiously adept, and the sheer lover: “Most interpret the Holy Book/Lovers interpret themselves” “To the wise, He said: mention my name as your belief allows/To the lovers, He said: Mention my name the way I deserve” “In the heavens, the faithful smell the breeze of Paradise/Lovers smell the Beloved’s perfume” I guess (unlike modern Western society) it was a time and place where religiosity was fairly the norm, and so the distinction was made between mere gnosis and self-dissolving love; love is /so/ radical and transcendent that it surpasses even notions of purity, faith, intellectual understanding, etc. Sana’i also frequently talks about faith as nothing special; for most humans it just forms part of the belief/unbelief duality which is just another one of the games we play in life. Ultimately, of course, all are the same being, and there is no purity but love, and no love but purity :-)
