    • Could make 'em all invest in a gigantic collective fund that's reinvested and serves to grant scholarships to struggling students for decades to come. Could name it something humiliating, too. That'd be poetic justice.

    • But isn't their actions (at its core), at least somewhat understandable in a society where education isn't free? Some higher education may cost you, to varying degrees from very low, to more private options, but still within a manageable student loan -- this is the Nordic model and much of Europe as well. When such basic options in life is at least available (with some effort) to everyone, corruption goes way down IMO.

      @joachimb9305@joachimb93054 жыл бұрын
    • @@joachimb9305 This scandal isn't about the cost of higher education - it's about the space available for those who want to attend the most prestigious universities. There are only so many slots for people to attend, and this scandal was about wealthy people cheating to appear better in the metrics which determine who gets those slots - like by cheating on the entrance exams. It was supposed to be a system largely based on aptitude and merit. Of course the price of higher education in the US is also an issue, but I'm pretty sure that's not what this particular scandal is about.

No one wants to listen to Kings tax them to oblivion, even the good earning merchants, just to fund wars (they recently participated in the Amercan war for independence against the Brits) and see the Royal Family doing well for themselves. Monarchies are kinda like socialist countries somehow, you pay huge tax to the Royal Family whenever they want to, and if you are unfortunately born a peasant, there's virtually no way to get out of that class.
