I love Anne Hathaway, but Angelica Houston killed this role.
And even Roald Dahl himself told that he enjoyed Angelica Huston performance.
Anne thinks in her mind that she's better than what she actually acts like
Ivan Gomez even if that was relevant (as he said that before the new one had even been announced) that doesn’t mean that the new one is going to be bad
James Bond or maybe she plays characters that think that way
*Anjelica Huston.
I still remember my dad... "C'mon boy this is great flick for the kids, it's got Mr. Bean in it!"

@@dtaylor4552 I agree! She would have been perfect

Don't they all layers on top of layers 😂😂
Old: Deformed, terrifying, and looks like an actual witch. New: Mileena rejects.
Adding Mileena teeth to the witches would’ve been so dope, even though the remake looks so bad 🤣

This is one of those movies/scenes you watched as a kid but can't remember if it really happened or it was just some crazy dream.
That happened to me but with the book, I can’t even remember if I read the whole book, I only remember this scene
That exactly happened to me. I read the book few years later and I realized that that scene was from the movie of that book
you clearly weren't traumatised enough by this then lol
The exact thing happened to me. I had these types of nightmares as a kid and here I find that it was a movie I may have seen a glimpse of but I forgot about it.
Exactly, I told my mom about this scene and she thought I was crazy
Anjelica Huston was effortlessly fabulous in this role. She stepped up to that stage like Maria Callas, total diva!

Messylin Perfect description! 👍 Ms. Huston is the best GHW, with her dark and sinister physical beauty that fools everyone (and catches the eye of Mr. Bean)! Like you said - “Total diva!” 💁♀️
The new adaptation makes this scene look like it comes from an horror movie, which is why this masterpiece from 1990 is untouchable!
As a adult not only is this scene intense and scary but what's amazing is the use of the different perspectives and the many different camera angles which really helped create stress and tension in the whole movie. Director of photography did a truly excellent job.
This movie traumatized me as a kid. I used to inspect and watch closely all my moms friends whenever they came over. I thought they were all witches.

Angelica even nailed the peculiar foreign accent.
Not really - she does a German accent, it's supposed to be a Scandinavian one.
@@WillScarlet16 oh wash. She sounded great regardless!
@@WillScarlet16 well the accent was still pretty good.
In the book, it never mentioned what the head witch's accent was, other than it sounding ridiculous and foreign to someone in England. The beauty of that little detail is that it doesn't have to sound like it's from any particular country. Despite this, she did a good job imitating how the book wrote her dialogue.
@@Kehwanna Actually it does - at the end the Grandmother discovers the Grand High Witch's headquarters are in Norway, remember?

It scared the crap out of me when the high witch kill the other lesser witch...it just goes to show how powerful she is! It's scary and I love it! ❤️❤️❤️
Anne Hathaway is going to have a hard time topping this in the remake. Anjelica Huston was simply superb as the Grand High Witch.
Anne Hathaway is vastly overrated. Will. Not. Watch. Ever.
It was only one story. In the book it was 5 stories.
Ashley Nave honestly I’ve never watched the film, the books were too good
I don't care who plays the Grand High Witch. I just hope they have a witch turning good like in this one

Actually it’s not from what I’ve seen it’s very slow pased and is very over rated
Vincent David But this version is much more faithful to the original story, and the special effects are much much better at telling the story. The new one seems to pander and stray, it relies to heavily on a list actors and gaudy cgi to make up for its shoddy visuals and writing.

Idk watching the remakes trailer gave me heavy nostalgia and now watching the his I’m having some extreme nostalgia lmfao
I agree. Everytime they make a remake it never captures the horror of the original. They just can't do movies like they use to.
We'll just have to see the film when it comes out. If it's not as good as the original then I'd agree.
Just remember fellas, it's not really a remake, it's a readdaption of the original book. So it's likely going to be very different from this movie no matter what :)
@@SquarelyGames exactly! And this isn't a perfect adaptation anyway, the ending is a cop out compared to the book
This movie definitely holds a place in my childhood. In 3rd grade, my teacher would always do storytelling by reading us books. She'd change her voice and add to the atmosphere from just reading a simple page. This book was one of the ones she read us and I loved every minute of it. Always had me wondering what was coming next. We got to watch this movie after finishing the book reading. If she read us a book and it had a movie, we got to watch it. I remember my friend Lizzie hiding behind me when the mask was taken off. I honestly was not expecting it to be this scary. I didn't get scared but boy, when you're a kid and you see this, it does give you the heebie jeebies. Nonetheless, I loved the book and the movie and I never get tired of them. Plus Anjelica Huston was the real Grand High Witch. Beautiful as ever on the outside but this time, she was both beautiful and evil at the same time. Can't ask for a better actress to play this role.
Tell me did you prefer the book ending or the film ending?
This is actual footage of an Instagram 'influencers' convention when they take their makeup off
Hey Phillip fill up day frank no
“Who spoke?” The moment the witches knew someone was about to die. The Grand High Witch does this at least once at every meeting primarily to instill fear into the other witches to insure that they follow her orders. Normally it’s an incompetent witch but she also will sometimes target a random one. Trivia: in this scene with the witches, if you watch closely, you may notice many of the witches are actually bald men dressed in drag.
If a nice little execution is a matter of course at every meeting, it would take a singularly stupid witch to say ANYTHING that could be interpreted as a criticism, however vague and indirect, of the outpourings of the Grand Witch.
Cenindo the point is to keep the other witches terrified of the Grand High Witch.
When the grand high witch was saying her little rhyme while getting ready to incinerate the witch, the other witches sitting near that witch frighteningly move away. They know she is literal toast
Additional trivia: in the scene where Bruno turns into a mouse, one of the witches is acutally played by Monty Python member Michael Palin.
I did read that part in the wiki plot. I just thought to myself that if she keeps that up she'll just end up killing all the witches in England herself (though it'll take a good few years if it's one per year).
This movie is possibly one of the most disturbing "kids" films ever made.

The Remake makes this movie alot more like an Academy Award Winner. Angelica Houston will always be the true Grand High Witch
tbh, Angelica's performance was academy award winning even if she wasn't nominated for one.
The same way Gene Wilder will always be Willy Wonka
The new film isn't a remake you utter dummy. It's an adaptation of the book. Please don't tell me you've never read the book before? I know kids these days never read anymore, but you really should read Roald Dahl's entire bibliography. Do you even know what a "book" is? The new one is far more accurate to the book. But kids who don't read and think that only movies exist don't understand things like that. They think Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was an original story, when it was based on the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory It seems to be mostly Americans who don't know who Roald Dahl is and that all his books are fantastic, and that he might be the author who's had most film adaptations of his books, even in a world where Stephen King exists. Roald Dahl is also the character James Bond is based on, because of his pre-writing career. He was a British spy would go over to the US and sleep with the wives of US senators in an attempt to blackmail the US into joining world war II. Although then Pearl harbor happened, so all of that wasn't needed in the end.
@@duffman18 why are you copy pasting the same comment on everything? You do realize that this comment was made right after the trailer was released right? So of course they would think it’s a remake. Are you really that pressed over a simple mistake?

3:26 What a considerate boss witch. She turned the minion witch into fireworks and put on a show for the audience. Thats the kind of energy we need in 2020
Watch out for falling houses 🏘️
After just witnessing the 2020 reveal, Angelica has nothing to worry about. This is miles better and the artistry is still impeccable. Simple yet much more effective than what Zemeckis has now given the new generation. I'm so glad I got to see this as a child and it is still much more effective. Kudos to Roeg and Henson.
Zemeckis was a great director through the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. I don’t know what happened to him. His movies stopped being memorable after A Christmas Carol.

Gustavo Horn The makeup was incredible especially for that time, Anjelica had to endure hours of makeup for this scene but she was still amazing.
I could see Lucy Lawless in the remake.
Gustavo Horn I thought a different actress played her true form?
For years I always thought a different actress played the part of The Grand High Witch when her true form is revealed. Anjelica was a real trooper to endure all those hours in the make up chair during her 3 week stint of filming. This movie is screaming for a Special Edition, I would love to find out more about this classic. I remember seeing this in my School class and the teacher had to stop the VHS only around the 10 min mark when you see the close up of the eyes of Erica's Witch kidnapper as it scared a lot of the class but I wanted to see the rest of the film. As I had gotten older, I read the book but then finally saw the film from start to finish. Such a great creepy movie and wished the original ending from the book was used as I thought it was great yet incredibly sad for a young audience to accept at the time.
