Change Settings FAST! Sony Memory Recall Tutorial || Sony a7R V, a7 IV, a7S III

What's the quickest way to change camera settings fast in your Sony mirrorless camera? Changing these settings on the fly can be a daunting task, and rather than going through your camera and frantically adjusting values setting by setting, there is a better and much easier way.
In this tutorial, I'll discuss Sony's powerful Memory Recall functionality within their cameras, and how you can utilize this to store and quickly recall your most commonly used photo, video and S&Q settings with just the turn of a dial. We'll also cover a couple of additional and lesser-known Memory Recall options that will allow you to further store and recall custom settings using different methodologies, and discuss any caveats with these alternate methods.
While I'll primarily demonstrate this using my Sony a7R V, this tutorial and settings discussed will be relevant for many Sony Alpha cameras containing their newer menu system, including the a7S III, a1, a7 IV and the a6700. Additionally, these same techniques can also be applied to cameras that utilize Sony's older menu system, including the a7 III, a7C, a7R III, a7R IV, a6600 and more.

  • Been using my A7IV for a year and didn’t realize I could save the priority mode to a recall setting! I love the recall settings and shoot manual most of the time but I do miss shooting in AP mode on occasion. This was really helpful thank you!

    • Absolutely, it took me a while to discover it way back when, but it's a game-changer once you do.

    • @@andrewsaracenigame changer indeed! one thing that really bothers me however is that you cant set a custom white balance when in 1,2,3 mode. never really understood why though

  • Excellent instructions. I have a question: I have found that the camera - when shooting manual, has a bad habit of putting a * on my screen and freexze the settings. the only way I can find to unlock it, is turning the camera off and then back on. Do you know how to eliminate that function?

    • Thanks! Might be that you're accidentally holding down the Fn button too long? I think by default that triggers the "Lock Operation Parts" setting, which disables adjusting all the physical controls. You can disable it in the menus.

  • I’m using Recall Custom Hold on a C1 button and it programmed to have a Continuous Shooting speed Hi+. So when I suddenly get a situation when I need to shoot something very dynamic (the person jumping for example) I hold my C1 button and while it is pressed I can shoot tons of photos in a seconds. But when I release the C1 button it became a normal continuous shooting speed

    • That's a great idea, similar in nature to what Sony did on the a9 III with the C5 button.

  • I need to store "Select Finder/Monitor" VF in Photo mode and Monitor in Video mode, how can I do that? The camera doesn't store these settings when I use "Camera Set. Memory". Am I doning it wrong?

    @Naglfar@Naglfar6 ай бұрын
    • I would think the main Memory Recall settings would capture that (i.e. use 1 for Photo, 2 for Video), but if it's a global setting irrespective of the mode you're in, you could just add it to the Quick Menu or Fn Menu, and toggle it from there.

  • Hi, how to delete these recall memories, I tried to format the settings and the device they are still there, for example when I’m in M mode it’s picking MR2, any help?

    @dreamharmonics14@dreamharmonics144 ай бұрын
    • You might want to make sure your memory card doesn't have any default recall settings stored on it, or if you need them, back them up and then format the card.

      @andrewsaraceni@andrewsaraceni4 ай бұрын
    • Thank you for the response, the problem is even when I took out the memory cards still has the same issue, I already reset the camera and settings twice, I don’t need the settings as they are on the wrong button, what would you suggest?

      @dreamharmonics14@dreamharmonics144 ай бұрын
    • @@dreamharmonics14 If you've fully reset the camera settings, and removed/cleared the memory cards, something else might be up. At that point, the camera should operate as it came from the factory.
