    • Have to disagree. The law only matters when applied equally. Escalating penalties for repeat offenders I can agree with, fining someone more just because they make more money is not fair.

      @brentleedy79@brentleedy793 ай бұрын
    • The Finnish day fines are applied equally, it's generally their daily income divided by two per day fine. The more over the limit, the more day fines you'll receive. Therefore, the impact is the same for someone who makes $200 a day as it is for someone making $2000 a day. Meanwhile, a flat $500 ticket will impact someone making $36k a year a lot harder than someone making $360k a year.

If you make any sort of salary, you get fined for 50% of your pay for a number for some days so for serious violations with a car. The money has nothing to with it! • Wrong. Finnish speeding tickets are based on income AND speed. It's based on daily fines and 6€ is lowes you can get. For small exceedings you can minor offense ticket, those range from 20 to 200€ So lets say you earn 3000€/month and you get 20 days the ticket will be 900€. If you drive even faster but earn 2100€/month (and you get 30 days) it's gonna be same 900€. If you are unemployed (0 income) those fines are based on the minumum of 200€. You are also able to pay these over longer period of time without extra fees. You can apply for even a year payment plan.

The Sûreté du Québec officer berated me in French for a while, then took my documents to his cruiser to write the ticket. When he returned, he gave me my docs back with the ticket and in heavily accented English emphatically said " The speed limit is in KILOMETERS - not MILES!!!" Insane is that I my self have had couple tickets over 2k in euros. Both was completely my fault, first was 188kmph on a 120kmph motorway as I was late from my friens wedding. Second was 266kmph on a 120kmph when I first tried my then new motorcycle. Both my own stupidity. Lost my license both times for 6 months, but who needs a license to drive anyway? Just use your friends cars and don’t do stupid things that get you pulled over while you are suspended 😂

And that is before they try to go you using the anti hooning laws where they will also take your car and cube it and add more fines/court fees/lawyer fees etc

By the time I made it into town there were about 20 police cars trying to block the roads off...after passing a few doing the normal speed limit I stopped and asked what was going on...they were looking for me. To shorten the rest, I was let off with a warning and forever grateful and never did that on a public road again. "Thank you for stopping, also the speed limit is 45, not 176. Because some rich people, like Arnold Schwarzenegger and the late Steve Jobs, have/had a yearly income of 1 Dollar. So their fines would be less than a cent. Fixed fine amounts make a crime with a fine only a crime for the poor

    @Dhuntermarcel@Dhuntermarcel3 ай бұрын
    • Exactly. Where I live its 250$ the second you’re over 10mph over the limit. Which is wild because the actual limit in which you can be pulled over is 7 over or under the limit depending on circumstances. So basically if you get caught doing like 15 over the limit you could be paying a ticket close to like 500$ which can be like a third of someone’s rent. Comparatively if you run a red light it’s only 80$ for some reason which imo running a red light is way more dangerous than speeding. Also speed cameras are usually put in lower income areas sometimes as a way to subsidize infrastructure maintenance in higher income areas where they have higher taxes but lower population so the property tax isn’t enough to cover road costs and such. Super scummy.

      @aidanfriedfeld8889@aidanfriedfeld88893 ай бұрын
    • In Finland doing that is a bit more difficult, you can't get our of paying taxes but you can reduce the amoung of pay but quite a margin. Same with these fines, it is not just your salary that is counted.

  • In the uk, if you get caught doing 100mph and or you accumulate over 12 point on your license it is automatically a trip to caught and very likely at least a disqualification for 12 months unless you're able to beg for leniency from the judge. If you're newly qualified then the threshold is 6 points in your first 2 years. This is just for the speeding offence. If you try to evade arrest then things like driving without due care and attention, dangerous driving etc can be added increasing chances of getting a custodial sentence.

  • friendly reminder that income based tickets are a great idea and you should not feel any worse for a rich person than you would for a normal person getting a ticket. There are many people in the world who make so much money that it would be financially useless to pick up 50k$ if it were laying on the ground, literally not worth their time and effort.

  • the man who attempted 200mph on a British motorway. no way the biggest fine . At around 4am on November 4, 1998, Kazuhiko ‘Smokey’ Nagata pulled off the hard shoulder into lane two of the A1(M) and came to a stop. With rain falling and the mercury hovering just above freezing, he pinned the throttle, dropped the clutch and performed a monstrous burnout in the middle of the road. Satisfied the Midlands were suitably sluiced in tyre smoke, he gunned his heavily modified, 1,003bhp, Japanese-registered, gold-painted Toyota Supra with one aim in mind: hitting 200mph. Due to some complications (the engine running lean on one run, the car wanting to jettison its bonnet at 190-odd on another), he had a few attempts but ultimately fell short of the double ton, clocking 194mph. More than enough to unofficially claim the dubious, dangerous record of the fastest speed ever reached by a car on a UK public highway. It wasn’t long before the winter darkness filled with blue lights: the police made chase and arrested him, resulting in Smokey having a night at Her Majesty’s pleasure (a remarkably lenient sentence which wouldn't happen today) before fleeing back to Japan, Hence a day of burnouts anywhere he could; next to a field of cows, on a busy roundabout and, eventually, in the middle of the A1(M), just before the 194mph run. interview he said “I did what I did, and what happened happened. I know it’s morally wrong, but it is what it is. I got sent to the police station but, not speaking any English, I had to wait in a cell until I could get a lawyer and a translator and go to court. I admitted to doing 120mph and was banned from the UK for 10 years, had a one-month international licence suspension, a £155 fine and £35 court fees. I was lucky; I thought I was going to prison. I returned to my hotel and there were paparazzi and press everywhere, so I sneaked out the back door to the airport. I was worried all the way until take-off where I thought, ‘I’m free - banzai!’”. that was the fastest for a long time, but very sad story leading to boring 70mph limit - The 70 mph speed limit was actually introduced in 1967, around two years after employees of AC Cars were caught testing their new Cobra model on the M1. At erm... 190 mph. Admittedly they did it on an empty stretch, at 4 a.m., using lookouts to make sure there was no traffic, but the story was leaked to the papers and the resultant outcry led to the introduction of the motorway limit. The highest recorded speed on a UK road is believed to be 201mph, although the case has yet to be head in court. one handed while filming it how daft you could be then to post it online. 2023 driver clocked at 162mph in his Porsche, one of the highest speeds ever recorded by police, has been fined £1,500 and banned from driving for six months. been lots big speeds in uk some lucky and not daft to post it online and avoid cameras some get caught like the 162mph last year, and the 201mph show on speedometer think that was 2020.
