BLTV takes a look back at the legendary skills of Evander Holyfield

  • Evander Holyfield, all headbutt jokes aside for a minute, has got to be one of the most underrated heavyweights of all time. He literally fought EVERYONE in the division in the 90s, even though he didn't beat them all, he challenged them all and had good performances against them all while still being the smaller man in nearly every fight. The man is a true warrior!

    • @@ASSman864 he actually never outweighed an opponent he fought as a HW. I think the reason shorter people gave him more trouble often was his style, once the brawl began, was to sit in close and slug and with a shorter guy (or a great inside fighter like Bowe) that we dangerous. Speaking of Bowe, sorry but the Fury/Wilder Trilogy cant hold a candle to the Bowe/Holy trilogy. I have never seen big guys beat each other like that for 3 fights except for Ali/Frazier and Bowe and Holy were bigger overall in comparison as Frazier wasnt that big.

    • Yeah most boxers have got good jab, good footwork, good conditioning, etc, etc, thats what happens to a man who has been training in the art of boxing usually, but depending on the kind of trainers they have and how they actually shape the boxer is what makes the fighter special, so at the time of when Mike Tyson was in camp with Cus D'Amata when Tyson was knocking all of his opponents out inside the distance, including people like Razor Ruddock, Thomas The Hitman Hearns, Tyrell Biggs (grudge fight), Michael Spinks, Larry Holmes & even Joe Frazier, all these fighters Mike Tyson fought & beat inside the distance in his prime years, way before he came up against Lennox Lewis & Evander Holyfield Tyson was destroying everyone, Tyson was unbeatable up until he came out of prison and his old camp had gone.

  • 1:56 a few things you didn't mention in this fight of Holyfield vs Qawi. Both fighters punched over 1000 punches each, Holyfield lost 15 pounds of weight during the match and although he won he had to be rushed to hospital after the fight, just as an example of how tough an opponent Qawi was, he dodged 10 punches from Holyfied and then gave Holyfield a few on the chin in return. Holyfield said that was the hardest fight he ever fought. Also fascinating thing about Qawi is he's 5ft 6, which is rather short for a cruiserweight and heavyweight.

I consider the prime Ali to be in the first Frazier fight, some people say the Terrell fight but Ali was at his nastiest in that first Frazier fight, he was fast and mean and throwing hard. He just fought Frazier's fight. He fought the second fight his way with movement but he wasn't throwing as hard. I think Holmes would give a prime Ali a good fight but I don't think he would win if Ali boxed and moved. Holmes didn't have great legs and Ali did and Ali would pull away in the late rounds and win a decision. That's what I think anyway.
