Scotty Kilmer is dollar tree oil bad for your car?
The following video was NOT sponsored by.... Seafoam!
ICEBOXdaGREAT I would never use oil in a car that came from a tree. Any tree!
*Scotty, i have a question.* I have a Cadillac cimarron with the two liter inline 4. It's got only 98k original miles. The previous owner couldn't tell what sort of oil the engine has been using. I changed the oil as soon as i got it and put in 15w40 semi-synthetic SN. Is it OK to run this engine on full synthetic or what is the explanation and logic behind this? THANK YOU!
Giovanni Laux Wow, you have a Cimarron?? Don't see those too often. I don't know about Scotty but I would use conventional or a blend, don't know if a full synthetic would do any good if you don't know the oil change history, this is an 80s car and as such, if it has the original seals which I'm assuming it does, they're probably brittle by now. Using a full synthetic might be a bad idea. I don't even know if I you can get 15W-40 in full synthetic. Never looked for it.
When I worked At Valvoline Instant oil change They would Make me try to sell cars with only 20.000 miles a engine flush There was no purpose of that it's pretty much a brand new engine and Make me push an engine flush on every car I don't feel comfortable selling people products they didn't need So I quit I don't like Scamming people I like to help people
I actually got one of these a few days ago on a used car I just bought. The used car dealer overfilled the engine oil big time and they used conventional. One night coming home I decided to floor the car and it went in to limp mode. I bought MAF cleaner but I was worried about the engine oil being so full so I got it changed + an engine clean at Valvoline. Car only has 40k miles but I want it to last 400k.
If you can't flush a new engine and Scotty says you can't flush an old one, when can you flush? Never?
@@spoton3278 I think you're missing "if properly maintained", which this wasnt.
Thank you for your honesty and integrity.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I happen to have a Valvoline in my town, they are quite the opposite. I'm sure it depends on the owners
If I had a dollar for everytime Scotty says "when I was a young mechanic" 😂 I'd have enough money to pay someone to work on my car!
let's see a young Scotty Army photo!!!
"Its a toyota, of course it starts" 😄
Are you my cousin
On the annoyance meter, Scotty is just inches behind that guy who has Heckle Fish.
He was never young. He was born old
If you ask 10 different people about an engine flush, you might get 10 different answers. lol
I will stick with old mechanics advice.
He does an engine flush in his newer videos
@@mr.mantastic5120 I was looking for this comment. I don't get this guy anymore
I have never had a want or need to buy a brand new car. So I've always bought used cars, trucks and first thing I've always done is engine flush/oil change besides all fluids and tune up. People aren't exactly truthful about what they've done to take care of thier vehicles especially when selling. I do it so I personally know what has been done and hasn't left me stranded yet. Love the videos as always. Im 50 and learned from my father who was a mechanic when I was a kid and am so thankful for all the knowledge he imparted to me.
Has the engine flush ever damaged anything?
@jd646 No. You don't want to do a flush every oil change, it'll damage seals and you'll experience oil leaks. I do them if it's a new vehicle to me, or every 50k miles. My cars and trucks have never left me stranded and thankful for that.
Man , this guy's a trip and I love his energy.
I love your channel Scotty. Always straight to the point, no seconds wasted. Respect for your knowledge and skills sir!
Key point here… engine flushes don’t create problems. They reveal problems. Most people don’t need to do them, but there are times that it might be worth while. Just be aware what you might be risking
Unless a hole is going to be made in the engine after a flush, what's the risk other than preparing to bear the cost to replace seals and gaskets? Replacing the engine? Even then, is that such a bad idea if you plan to keep the vehicle? Will the engine keep running with the build-up inside? Or the recommendation is to replace the engine or buy a newer car when it breaks down.
@@matlock8314 how about a couple of spun bearings because the crankshaft journals got plugged ?
@@kellismith4329 The flush dissolves the dirt, not breaks it. There will be small particles but they tend to be smaller than 2mm in diameter which won't clog anything major and likely be retained by the oil filter
"when i was a young mechanic "....my favourite phrase, love you uncle scotty.
I'm a mechanic and I've had multiple engines with top end noises that sound exactly like a collapsed lifer or a stretched timing chain and oil flushes have corrected the issues 80% of the time. It's all about your personal experiences
I’m getting a ticking noise on my 2017 Toyota Corolla…you think that might help?
@@bobespnza-la7030hes not mechanic he don't know that
My mother had an 86 fiero that leaked oil. She was putting dollar store brand oil in it until it started knocking. When I tore that engine apart it looked like tar inside lifter valley.
@@bobespnza-la7030what solved the ticking noise ?
Every time Scotty says "Now, back when I was a young mechanic!.." I get a smile on my face...
I changed the oil with oil additive and flushed the engine every year on the ol' 91 Corsica and had it for seventeen years and it's still running great! I still think if you have a engine with a light lifter tapping, flushing the engine before the oil change might open up the clogged lifter oil port and cure the lifter tapping!
I'm using a 2004 Galloper Petrol 3.0 V6 ... it has some issues, I'm guessing from lack of maintenance. Should I try a motor flush on the oil change ?
@@babagandu I would.
"Running like crap",shiws picture of fat man running, epic savage moment scotty 👊👍
So to summarize Scotty's video: "Don't fix it if it ain't broke"
It's always best to prevent it from breaking in the first place.
There is such a thing as preventive maintenance so it will be less likely to be broke!
Better yet dont buy new cars
Also, "Don't do anything to keep it from breaking"
You are right sir. I tried to adjust the valves on my Honda and ended up making my them worse. So i always tell myself, if it ain’t broken don’t fix it!
Wow, i didn't know I was watching history channel. Good job scotty. You are the gold standard.
More history channel than the history channel
That's just prime.
@Ganga Din I understood that reference.
it was the pawn stars, the best I could do for your engine is $5 I gotta clean it up and frame it
i had an old pickup that was reading>3 psi oil pressure. ran an engine cleaner through it and it jumped to 60 psi in under a minute. still driving that truck today with no major oil leaks.
YES, hot engine + GUNK 5 min Flush THEN Full engine with Cheap oil ..THEN Change oil ..
@Maddog worker had a Buick that did that. Was a spun camshaft bearing. Not good.
@Maddog worker did it fix the oil pressure?
You know I'm reading your history remarks and it's like four years I'm just following you right now you truly are the best honest mechanic out here and I love it when you move your arms so excited to explain modus I will keep on watching you like you have new videos you should have new ones as long as they have all the cars you will be around
Flush engine oil? Most people I know, they don't even bother changing their oil. They just ignore it until their engine clacks like a diesel. Great video as always Scotty!
We have a society where 60% of young people have university degrees, yet practically none of them know how to maintain their own cars or repair their own furnaces.
Yeah many people run cheap oil 15-20k miles and never check. It's a shame
have to be pretty clueless to not change the car oil
Omg hahha
I have a "bypass" oil filter kit on my Diesel and I use a top tier synthetic that I have to top off occasionally due to oil leaking (oil cooler lines leak lightly;) with all of this considered, extended intervals can be done _in some cases._
Good stuff there, Scotty. I did a flush treatment on my '91 Pontiac GAm (151 c.i. four) because it was getting a peculiar build up of varnish looking red color inside where I pour in fresh oil. I did the flush and changed oil brands, that was at about 190k miles and used the car in my work until I retired and had about 230k miles on it. I still have the car and it worked out o.k. - I'm a retired motorcycle and auto tech, things sure have changed.
Would you recommend it on my old 22 years old aged xr200r Honda dirtbike?
Have you ever had any ignition trouble with the Grand Am?
I'm so glad I came across this channel. You are truly a blessing Mr Scotty. Definitely gonna learn more about my car & truck & the do's & dont's!!
Song " scotty doesn't know" well scotty does know.
Glad i saw this vid ,was about to go get some motor flush & change my oil, thanks scottie used to see you on the Houston tv channels a while back, keep up the good work!
I love the pictures that pop up while your video is playing great sense of humor! And fantastic information!
I stopped watching because of the ancillary crap.
Yep, he's 200% right! Changing your oil often, is the real deal!
When I have to do a flush. I get any cheap oil from the parts store. Usually STP. Run it for 1 month. And then change it! That’s my safe way of flushing. I’d never strip my engine of protection
It's the same way with a transmission
@@seventystix6964 if you where determined to do a oil flush just fill it up run it for like 2 or 3 hours take a trip, then you waste a lot of good oil cause you drain it out again and put fresh fluid thats what I would call a oil flush
I remember my Peugeot 407 diesel needed only every 25000 km change of synthetic oil as recommended by the factory. I sold it after 8 years and 250.000 km, it has always run great with lots of power and not losing a drop of oil. Great car
Many thanks for the lesson Scotty, saved a lot of engines!
Well Scotty I was thinking about flushing my engine on my 2012 Chevy van. And you have just changed my mind. I have always kept the oil changed when necessary. Cool dude!
Moral of the story: buy classic cars that you can rebuild the engine yourself in 2hrs and at a cost of $75
Great idea... 99% of the public does not have what it takes to own a classic car. I have a bone stock '51 Mercury and it would make most people run away scared when faced with the 68 year old challenges of an antique automobile.
and where can i find those cars? here in europe, euro 5 engine, are not allowed anymore
Patrick Ryan the parts are rare because of collectors
That's why I own 3 VW beetles
Yeah and then you can drive like a snail because old classic cars weigh a ton and back then they didn't have horse power lol they had 100 little ponies, cars were really slow, even a cheap new civic with 160 hp would smoke any classic car with those big engines 😂
Flushing your engine is perfectly fine, just make sure that you rinse the engjne with clean oil after flushing, means 2 times oil change and 2 times filter change.
Instructions don’t say that, so you should be perfectly fine with one flush
@@tyronesmith3812 Thats because they want you to buy it not to put it back on the shelf.
Don't know why you'd wanna waste money on another oil filter considering you're only running the motor for 15mins
What I do know is that my 2006 gmc 5.3 developed an intermittent lifter tap at 184k miles. I have always used full synthetic oil every 5k. I was going to have the lifters replaced but decided to try Liquid Moli engine flush first... It worked! No more lifter tap. It seems that the engine is more quiet and runs smoother as well.
Did you have minor sludge in it by any chance?
Liqui moly engine flush is miraculous.
Is it still running good after 9months?
I have an 05 silverado 5.3. I was thinking of doing the same thing. Is it still good after you did the flush?
@@Van-du8uz did it with my sonic after oil cooler blew worked great

Don't forget to test the taste though. If it tastes iron it's time for a change. If it tastes like french fries, chances are you checked the wrong device.

That's incredible. Does it have a timing chain, if so has it been replaced?
I LOVE the little image on the side hahaha 75% of the reason i look at you'r video it's fun ! hahaha
Thank you. I made up my mind and decided not to flush the engine. Will listen to your advice.
Great content, as usual, Scotty. In this particular case I disagree with the generalization. I purchased more cars with maintenance neglect issues, then I like to admit. By trial and error I found out, for myself, that an initial engine flush, right after purchase in adition to air intake clean not only improved the overall performance of those cars measurably, but in many cases also quitened the engine noise conciderably. Additionally changing ALL fluids in the car has lately becoming rather the norm for me. Sidenote: most cars I bought where between 6 and 12 years old diesel, regularly used with an average between 100k and 150 k miles.
Do you mind sharing what brand of flush you use?
I use Slick 50! Great results but only use it on older cars, I would say underneath 2010.
I agree bought a 99 camaro dude never cleaned the tb and the engine was dirty asf onky 77k Miles
I keep a car for many years. I change oil in my car every 3 to 4 thousand miles. I always feel a difference in performance after changing oil. And I use synthetic too. Going to synthetic in my 2000 7.3 power stroke is a night and day difference
in the Army we changed the filter in between oil changes. I put a 1/2 cup of gas in the oil and run it for about 1 minute b4 changing it.
If only you created this video a year ago, I used to work for a Vauxhall (formally GM owned) dealer in UK and I was having this argument with my manager as they were trying to upsell oil flushes on services even though GM say themselves not to use flushes. But I was ignored constantly and left the company.
I have a GMC from 2008 bought 2 hand, and it's good or not to flush the motor? And the cooling system?
I bought a car with 100,000 miles on it and looking in the valve cover it looked very clean. After about an year the oil pressure would wave all over the place and sometimes would drop to zero with no engine clatter. I added about a pint of MMO and drove it a couple a thousend miles. For a while the oil pressure would wave around and then became steady. Changed the oil and no more oil pressure problems since and no leaks or smokes and does not use oil. I did not want to pull the pan to clean the pick up screen.
i heard of this 30 years ago , but wasnt sure about it, thanks Scotty you confirmed it enough for me.
If an engine is held together by the sludge it's probably on it's last legs anyway
"Driving on borrowed time."
Don't forget to check your oil now and then.
Ozzstar I normally use Vermont Maple Syrup and add quart a month. It’s burning a little bit more than normal. It’s an old horse.
Ozzstar that's the truth, I've seen many low mileage vehicles use oil between oil changes. I believe most vehicles last a long time if fresh oil is kept in it.
I check my car's oil every time I get it out of my garage, that's almost every three days.
Luminositymusic lol 😁
Bassam salim good idea.
If your engine is over 200000 miles, leave it alone and just change the oil and filter every 3/4k miles, Scotty's right about the seals. If your engine is below than 200000 miles and changing oil and filter regularly, you don't need a flush in the first place. Only flush your engine if it's below 150000 miles and has doubts that the previous owner didn't really care about changing oil regularly.
Im currently there. I have a car with 145k miles, previous owner has full service book, but engine looks dirty and like the oil is burnt. Spark plugs also have a little carbon/oil. Gonna try flushing it.
I don't know what it is with this guy, pretty loud personality but I like it. After watching a couple of these videos I am kind of hooked. At least he is honest and knowledgeable with engines
Thank you for honestly sharing some knowledge sir! Much appreciated.
I never trusted oil flushes cause I thought all it would do is make things worse, and you explained it to me on why. Now time for me to look forward to the next oil change and air filter change.
Thanks Scotty! You just made my mind up, you're great!
I have flushed engines since the late 70's and never had a problem. But the more I watched your video here the more it makes sense as to what you say. I do remember rebuilding engines and changing valve cover gaskets on 1960's and 70's chevy 350 and 400 small blocks and yes tons of sludge. But then when i did the same in the 90's and later not much sludge and the detergent oils kept them clean as you say. Very good video you have done here
Thanks for your guidance. Toyota tried to sell me Engine Flush on Corolla which has done 20,0000 but is highly maintained. Your video saved my car 👍🏻
Great video Scotty! I've been religious about changing the oil in my VW Passat, and now it's up to 102k miles and still hasn't burned a drop. One thing I've wondered about though, is, should I change the transmission fluid in it? It's a 5 speed manual, and still shifts fine, and the clutch doesn't slip. The dealer told me it was a "lifetime fill" and I said "Define lifetime." I keep cars until the chassis rusts out. Judging by how this car is built, I'm hoping to get at least 500k out of it. Averaging 33k a year and so far it's been great!
Lifetime means: use it until you break it, then buy from me a new one, don't maintain it, because it inconvenience my business; I don't care about your economy, I care about my greedy bonuses. Change it every 55K miles, I suggest
The transmission fluid lasts the lifetime of the transmission. The lifetime of the transmission will be greatly reduced if you don't change out worn / dirty fluid. So, really, any fluid could be "lifetime fluid". Pour some pancake batter in there, and a week later, when your transmission falls out the bottom of your car, it could be said that the batter lasted the lifetime of the transmission. What I'm trying to say is I don't believe them. Change your fluid regularly. Or at least drain a little out to check it.
Most manufacturers advise you to change the mtf after 100k miles, 75w90 is cheaper than a gearbox. Also you probably think it shifts smooth because you've psychologically adapted to it. My shocks kept deteriorating but i kept putting it off because i thought they weren't too bad, when i got to put new shocks in, the ride quality was simply night and day, and i realized how I'd been tricking myself into thinking that it wasn't so bad.
VW transmissions are sealed
MT fluid should be changed every 7-8 years I reckon, just make sure you fill it with the official vw/audi fluid as it performs excellently when cold compared to the competition
very good lesson ..my mechanicing is improving..GGOODD bless u in all u do well done Scotty..

Scott I learn so much, thank you for the tec tip I never flush my oil
Thanks for this video. I was almost talked into a flush for my LS1 and I didn't think that sounded right. Sure enough, the smart folks win. :)
We just got a new Equinox. The manual states not to use engine flush. Even basic vehicles are super complex and engineered to tight tolerances. Hell...even coolant these days is formulated specifically for the metal. No more big, sloppy engines that can take abuse.
Lol, great information and visuals! Thanks for this knowledge I can sound smarter know next time this question comes up.
I allready bought engine flush fluid, now I won't flush it, you convinced me, thanx man!
Agreed. A guy down the street did this and got upset that his motor has a new noise. That's what happens when you clean gap filling crud out of engines with over 250,000 miles. I agree. Don't flush the crankcase.
Wow you really rang the bell. That's legendary effort
Scotty thank you for being a great human
Daaaaaaamn . . . . I've always chucked Engine Flush through first when I've done oils changes. Wish I known this stuff years ago! Certainly would go some way to explaining some of the oil leaks my cars have developed.
I'm so glad you had a video about this Scotty. Education I never got.
I worked at a volvo dealership for a couple months and this was done on every oil change
Tahnks Scotty. You just saved me and my car from unnecessary problems.
Scottie you are funny guy. The little pictures you put in the videos make me crack up. 😂 Good stuff. 👍🏼
It’s his video editor
Thanks for the advice. I just recently flushed my engine. If any engine of mine was functioning by the grace of sludge and crap not dislodging then I would rather know just after a service than in the middle of a holiday.
Literally the best YT video I’ve ever watched. I love the use of obscure images 🤣🤣
Flushed my 07 Saab 9-3 twice in the last 4 years, and it runs sweet with 93k miles on the clock. I do buy decent oil though, and service it at least once a year, usually after 12k miles. It is a turbo diesel, and the turbo was crudded up, and burning oil. But I ran a turbo clean solution through it, and so far so good.
I don't get it. You made another Video with VW GTI where you recommended a flush
Thanks Scotty! Right on time! I was just looking to order Oil flush for my 27 year young Honda Accord. There is no way am going to do now! Only frequent oil change and filter will be untill rust eats it ;)
Nexi Tech I do the same with my 32 yr old Mazda 323. Just change the oil, filter, and the car will run for many years.
I agree with Scotty 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Right on time! Some guys are just not clever enough to have a clean engine. Although they almost made it! :D
You realize this guy is off his meds ?
geoffrey calligan stop being mean to Scotty!!!
Normally I don't agree with you scotty but on this one subject, I agree totally. I'm a little older than you and I remember the cars without oil filters too, I even remember the crancase vent was a tube that was vented to the underside of the engine.
2:46 that made me laugh, Scotty seemed so casual being very sassy.
Scotty, my shop runs BG products for additives, and supposedly the way BG designs their engine cleaner is taking the crud off a layer at a time so there isnt a bunch of chunks floating around in there. It only runs 15 minutes before we drain the oil, and to be honest it's gotten great results. Thoughts?
Thanks for that valuable advice, I was about to buy engine flush 😳
Thanks for making very informative vids! Very much appreciated sir!
You really nailed the extra images for commentary, great content
Hey Scotty I flushed my engine oil once because the car had oil burning issues, and blow by. Put in a Amsoil engine flush, the difference was huge. Fixed the whole engine and ever since I used pennzoil ultra platinum. Runs great.
This guy is way out of touch with current motors. Ive seen dozens of cars do an engine flush and regain 10-40 PSI per cylinder alone, yet alone cleaning off the valves. Especially important in turbo vehicles with small oil passages.
@@ItsSerialBoX I think you and OP mean big and/or industrial engines, maybe Diesel ones, so small engine car, like 1.5-2.5 L might have problems
Flushing an engine is a corrective measure. I think Scotty is saying that if you change the oil regularly, you should NOT flush your engine, since you're taking preventive measures. There are preventive flush products, weaker, usually used between oil changes. Tip: heard a time ago that these oil detergents get "activated" on highway conditions (low torque, high rotation). Just ride on a highway for an hour or two then drain the oil WHILE warm from the travel, when the sludge is on liquid state. Its a natural flush.
@@ItsSerialBoX Yes but the problem with thóse engines is the recommendations from the factory due to enviromental regulations which prescribes an oil change every 19000 miles. Which is DOUBLE of what it was used to be. And since some people drive no more then 5k a year some seem to think the oil only needs to be changed every4 years......with all it's consequences 🤦🏻🙄.
@@saultube44 No, not at all, smaller motors that run turbo's that get driven short distances where the oil doesn't properly get warmed up or cooled down enough before the motor gets shut off is where you see oil start to really break down. A flush every 50k in nearly any motor these days isn't going to hurt a damn thing. This guy is reaching for clicks.
An expert mechanic told me to use fresh cheap oil for 2 or 3 days then replace it with my regular brand of pricey oil...sounds kind of expensive but my engine isn't complaining.
THIs 100% .Cheap oil and filter . Then change a week later >Dont drive like a lunatic .
After a flush you mean?
couldn't agree more with Scotty about flushes and no matter how warm you get the engine or how long you leave it draining there will always be dirty old oil left inside the oil pump, oil galleries, turbocharger, laying in the cylinder head, hydraulics and in the sump. I change the oil and filter asap every time I buy a car and then again after 500 miles to be sure its clean. its amazing how cheaply you can buy oil in 20 litre drums too.
For those of you who get clogged vvt oil controller stay away from cheap oil filters. I had to change one cause the anti-flowback failed. Symtem: slow oil pressure build-up during start up. That was a FRAM Extra Guard.
yup FRAM sucks
Hi Scotty, you are amazing, thank you for sharing your knowledge on auto repair, I learned a lot following your videos and advice but in this matter I disagree of not flushing the engine. I have a 2011 Buick Lacrosse CXL 3.6 liter engine, I had 7 check engine codes pop up, went to auto zone the kind lady behind the counter said do yourself a favor get a new car because it will cost you an arm and a leg to do the repairs, went to the dealership I'm not sure if they quoted me $9,700 something or $11,700 something. Scotty I gave my cousin who is a mechanic a call and he recommended that I flush the engine before getting rid of the car or paying a shop the arm and a leg lol. Scotty I flushed the engine, changed the oil and started the car believe it or not the check engine light went away and went back to auto the zone and no codes whatsoever, it's been now over 6 months and thousands of miles driven, the car runs excellent when idle rpm is less than 600, please share any knowledge on how this flush saved my car, you are a hero in my book, God Bless You for all you do.
For old timmers anything that is new is immediate "BAD"
Well, flushed my OM642 in a Commander after several 30 000km service intervals from previous owner. Ran a lot smoother. So it depends from engine to engine, I suppose
Thank Scotty you’ve answered my questions yet again. Your the best
I’m so happy this video came a cross before putting seafoam in my crankcase ,, great stuff Scotty 👍🏼
Hell yeah, it's definitely the sludge holding my engine together. As a matter of fact, the whole dang car.😆
Youre saving me hundreds and give me good laughs! I love your vids scotty!
@Priest Drain refrigerant. Loosen the serpentine belt. Unbolt and unplug ac compressor. Bolt and plug in new ac compressor. Put the serpentine belt back on. Pull vacuum on ac system. Refill with r134a (and whatever oil is specified on compressor, if needed)

This guy knows his stuff I genuinely bought this today's I have given it to my neighbour and missed it out my oil change
Funny, I just got back from the Toyota Dealer to change my oil, tire rotation on a 2019 Highlander XLE 29,400 miles. They recommended for the next Oil Change to do a Flush because it was "discolored/dirty. I check the oil before I went to the dealer, and I just saw a normal gold color oil. Lol
Thanks for content you provide. I enjoy the videos very much. Questions for you to the topic for this video: 1) vvt is typical for non-American vehicles, so let’s preface that- but why would you want to avoid fixing a problem being hidden by the “sludge”? I eat right to be healthy, but I go to doctors to know that I’m healthy..cause I ain’t fooling myself thinking just cause eat good, then I must be healthy. If I have potential oil system issues, I would rather know and repair them to restore my engine power, lifespan, and ensure optimal performance. Unless I bought a piece of junk, why would I treat it with less care? 2) just because newer oils have detergents doesn’t mean oil build up cannot occur, regardless, due to the combustion process it is a naturally occurring problem that comes with territory. I’ve taken apart well maintained engines and found varnish or cooked on oil and coated oil pans still, so I believe that an addition of an additive once a while will do more good than harm. Plus, I would find my potential oil leaks before it turns into blown head gasket or something. 3) due to dirt entering the engine thru air inlets, completely unavoidable, and modern recirculating emissions, engines are very sensitive to contamination changes- maf, Inc, throttle bodies, maps, o2, etc- all these sensors can be impacted and cause deterioration in performance and mpg if additional care is not given, and can lead to premature failures that were probably avoidable. Thanks
I get what he's saying my 150cc scooters performance has only gone up after not giving it for service.
Great video, crazy guy, hilarious illustrations. 🤣😂🤣
Certainly food for thought!! Thank you for this :-)
I'm glad I ran into this video I had a lifter making a little noise starting cold this morning but went away after it warmed up.. and was going to do a flush before oil change.
Scotty, you got personality. I enjoy your vids mate. Your accent makes it.
You're a good person Scotty. May God bless you and your family.
Fahyad Singh you don’t need to tell God what to do, he knows better Anyway, yes he is a good person
Scotty ill say a prayer for you. “Anyone who attempts to cause you harm, may harm come to them.”
Seeing his Gen 6 Celica makes me happy, had an imported Celica ST202 SSII with the 3S-GE engine designed in conjunction with Yamaha (i know Scotty's isn't the 3S-GE motor). It had almost all the extra TRD components available plus a few other bits and bobs from some other reputable modification companies. Best car i ever owned, never skipped a beat, never broke down, still had all the power it left the factory with (plus more because of the extras) 22 years later. I had to get rid due to having to commuting for work where a diesel is more practical, and the paint was dying on the fibreglass body parts which would require a lot of work, as all the paint would need stripping back to apply a new gel coat and risking damage of the irreplaceable parts if done poorly. Sad day when it was driven away by someone else. Checking on our UK car database shows it hasn't been on the road since 2016 so was probably stripped for parts or accidentally parked in a ditch. It was only a Celica but she was my Celica.
And yet here you go.... You sold it to keep crying about it here.
Awesome video and graphics made my day. Thank you.
I used Liqui moly engine flush . 210,000 miles 2000 i30 . been 25,000 miles so far it great Seems to run smoother at idle I also use liqui moly full synthetic . Very happy Used to vibrate really bad while in reverse .
Yea, this guy know nothing. Sure, on the worse case scenario it can lead to find problems that are hidden under a huge coat of sludge (but then again the issue is that, not the flush it self), but from time to time, it's not a bad idea to run a flush on a car that is well maintained to keep it smooth and extra clean (since some spots of the engine do get more hot and oil start to break at these spots)
Yeah i use all sort of crap on my car and it seems to work just fine if not better than it should... Id say use common sense when doing things in life and youre gonna be fine
@2:20 I use synthetic and still change my oil every 3k. Oil is cheap now and I can tell a difference with more frequent changes.
@Prime Artemis that's what I do. A full synthetic oil change cost me about $25. I have no idea what the shops charge these days. 10 years ago it was $70 for full syn at most oil change places. It's probably a lot higher today
You're Kilmer'ing me smalls. Love your videos 👍
Wow ! Excellent advice ! Very practical ! Was about to do it , but now no way man this makes lota sense ...not flushing the engine will just keep changing oils every 5000 kms !!!!!
Very informative because I'm also trying to flush my car engine good now I don't do
Sadly from personal experience, I can attest to this video. I ran seafoam through the oil and did the intake treatment on two of my older vehicles. My car started ticking in the engine and leaking oil from the valve covers on top of my spark plugs. The truck simply started leaking oil, which it had never done before. Yes, after initial treatment, the vehicle ran better, which is why I did the other, but within 6 months, I had issues with both. With higher mileage cars, leave well enough alone until there is an actual problem! Also, screw seafom except for gas treatment and specific purposes. I wish I had that minor gunk build up back now!
Scotty explained on another video, Seafoam is for old engines, and today for overboard engines. Check his other videos about it
You are correct Scotty Dirty oil is the only thing that can actually prevent some blow by. I had an 85 Ford Ranger and dumped some glycerin in it and that stuff caused blow by. People did not like driving behind me.
I flushed the oil in my car multiple times, I change my oil every 3k with Full Syn. I've put almost 100k on it since the first flush and no oil leaks, but it does run pretty rough and I think there's a slight rod knock now. I've learned my lesson.
