    • They do this on every project. I have been thinking about this, and first I thought, this might be a cultural thing, that we just don't get. But maybe the explainiation ist pretty simple: The wood they are using is to us amazingly beautiful and rare becaus it does not grow in our areas. But to them it is just the kind of wood that grows in the forest nearby. And to make the piece special, to prevent it to look just like cut from the forest and flung together they apply lacquer. Just a thought.

  • Beautiful... I did like the color before the finish stain darkened it and lost most of that really pretty grain. For me, after the cleaning wash, a clear finish would be perfect to show this wonderfull wood. With this very dark finish, the wood does not matter. It could be a less valuable wood with the artificial looking finish. I was a buyer of wood furnishings for the American market all over Asia. The finish is proper for most Asia markets but not for Western exports. Great job building this. Fantastic carving and joining the top. Great skill. Thank you for this skilled video.

    • Wealthy traditional Asians who can afford to buy this style and have homes large enough to accommodate it, do not do "Rustic". Exposed natural wood grain is, in their minds, connected to the rural, agrarian lifestyle which they have struggled to escape. Expensive and opaque lacquered finishes denote prosperity and status.

Can easily weight about 600/700kg (as I make the caculation based on the per/manpower@50/60kg sometimes more but thats an average man can lift/carry) & the price like that, USD25K & above.....and to move & assemble it, sure hell will cost a small fortune. • You are very correct. Business people did not see how destructive their acts are. All the rare woods are now gone. What good are those expensive table for. A show of wealth at the expense of destructive environment. So shameful

    • @@nguyenhan1448 It's not a rare wood. It's Wenge (not Ebony like the title says) and it's available commercially with all the appropriate certifications that it's harvested responsibly.

    • ...i've noticed that since retiring, when pottering around now, using various tools and materials in and outside the house, i've become a bit more careful when i'm not wearing the gear. Respect your direct environment, it could kill you in an instant.

  • As a professional woodworker(retired), I must say that while the finish is beautiful, the absolute overkill on the base does not match the simplicity of the top. If you were looking for a Tudor look you should have had the moulding around the top carved to match the base. While your outstanding skills are displayed your artistic eye is sadly lacking.

  • That doesn't look like any kind of ebony. More like Wenge. That flame method on the mortise though. I've never seen that before. PVA glues don't adhere well to carbonized wood.

    • Not sure what type of glue it was but didn't look like PVA to me. Most likely something traditional that doesn't have a problem with carbonized wood.
