Actually, now the matches are going on WITH FANS. The fans are now allowed to the games in the amounts that the nearest bomb shelters can accommodate. The amount of fans allowed varies throughout the country (up to 2000). I have myself visited football for the first time since 2021 just a week ago to witness my team get their first win of the season. Even despite war and everything, league now functions with fans available. Big thanks to everyone on the frontline and in the anti-air defence for making this possible, Слава Україні!

Thanks for covering football in my country Zealand! We had such a cool league and it was awesome to see Metalist Kharkiv, Dynamo Kyiv, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dnipro making huge waves in Europe and games within the league was awesome with dedicated fans and ultras, which now a core of Ukrainian army. I still miss that Metalist, it was special run and for my hometown it was not only the club, but literally the heart and passion of the city. Hope one day I can comeback home and see my hometown team perform and once again hear Champions League anthem on Metalist Stadium.
Being a fan of FC Dnipro (club that no longer exists), its a bid sad that it was not mentioned enough in the video. Our club was in Europa League final in 2015. We lost to Sevilla, but it was biggest achievement for Ukrainian football since Shakhtar's victory in 2009. Also, Dnipro has won 2 USSR championships in 83 and 88, so Dynamo is not the only Ukrainian club to do it.
Is Dnipro-1 the new Dnipro club or a completely new club?
@@TiagoSilvaESCformally, but Dnepr-1 is a fake
Bid sad 😂😂😂 Khokhol, learn how to write words 😂😂😂
I'm also from Dnipro and will forever remember the 2015 europa league run. Perhaps most memorable was the home game in Kyiv against Napoli where people from across Ukraine came to support Dnipro. For that run, they united the nation.
Also from Dnipro, very sad indeed💔
Hey Zealand. Huge thank you for bringing more attention to our league and history. So many of our own are absolutely shattered from the reality that there's a war outside, and a bomb could always drop, but we still stand strong. We still fight strong. We still do our best to bring hope to our nation, bringing up morale, and trying to do everything we can just to sustain. It's even sadder how I remember I wanted to become a footballer, but because this war is super draining, and my oblast has no viable sustainable training centers, it's practically impossible. Much love from Ukraine.

Thanks for covering Ukraine zealand, another fantastic video as always! I just wanted to add a few things for those interested, and make a quick correction 1. For those who don’t know, Shakhtar are owned by Rinat Akhmetov, a billionaire with a net worth of around 6 billion. He is a huge fan of football and his investments into the team are why they have a scouting network in Brazil, quickly became a competitor, and can still compete at the highest level despite being homeless. Without him, they would have folded, just like Dnipro or Metalist Kharkiv. 2. We definitely have a corruption problem in Ukraine and in Ukrainian football. The last president of UAF was just released from prison. Now, we have elected Andriy Shevchenko and as president of football and are very optimistic for the future 3. The timeline for Shakhtars European campaign is a bit off 14:57. The group stage campaign you described was when Mudryk was still there. After the group stages, they beat Rennes in the Europa league R32, and then got smashed by feyenoord like 8-2 or something. After Mudryk Left, Shakhtar was still able to finish 3rd in a CL group consisting of Barca, Porto, and Antwerp. Then, they lost to marseille in the Europa league knock outs 4. Vernydub is an absolute genius. He is also the one responsible for the rise of Zoria Luhansk. They had a budget of potatoes, and were able to compete with teams like Bilbao. Unfortunately, it now seems unlikely they will finish in 1st, but they should still qualify for Europe, and many did not expect that. 5. Foreign players are starting to come back now. Kryvbas, regularly has 6 foreigners starting, and they have been key to their success. Many of the more “financially stable clubs” such as Polissia Zhytomyr, Chornomorets, shakhtar, have 6-7 foreigners in the squad. Almost all teams now have a few foreigners, and some have even come from places like Switzerland and France in the last window
What, Chornomorets "financially stable club"? 😲
in difficult and dark times, football is probably one of those things that keep me and many people here in good shape... it's like another life, where you forget about all the problems and sufferings, and cheer for your favorite team: Ukrainian, English, German or any other we have a large family of football fans, many of them stood up to defend the country, unfortunately, there are also those who returned on the shield football fans from around the world - thanks for your support ❤
This was heartbreaking. Nothing is more powerful to me then defending your country, no matter what country you hail from, it will always gain my utmost respect. Sports are an amazing way to bring people together. I wish the very best for all those in Ukraine.
Thank you for saying it
A former player for my hometown club Académico de Viseu now plays for Kryvbas, Rafael Bandeira and I didn't know they were doing so good
Thanks for covering ❤️ Love from Ukraine 🇺🇦
Thank You Zealand for pulling this all together. I'm from Kyiv and am a lifespan fan of Dynamo. I've come back to playing FM since the full-scale invasion of my country started to run away from cruel reality, and thanks to your videos, I've been able to recollect all the game aspects after a 10-year long absence of FM in my life. R.I.P. all the brave Ukrainians who defend our country, including the ex-players. And R.I.P. Artem F. I grew up reading his football articles in our press.
18:39 - Reminds me of the Bill Shankly quote "Someone said to me 'To you football is a matter of life or death!' and I said 'Listen, it's more important than that'"
This video made me develop a newfound respect for not just the Ukrainian league but all Ukrainian players that have had to endure this war in some way (from family members dying to witnessing air raid attacks.) Thank you for making this video and I hope Ukraine is able to push through this difficult time.
Thank you too
Thank you for enlightening our situation and all of your work as well, of course. Much love from Ukraine, thank you again, Zealand
Wow, what a surprising and amazing video... I was born in Kryviy Rih, and we always used to visit "Kryvbas" matches with my dad when Italian "Parma" and "Roma" clubs were competing with us in the UEFA Cup. Now, my father is in the hospital after being at the frontline for more than a year, and for me, seeing my home club being reincarnated and then at the top of our league during wartime is something that puts a smile on my face. So yeah, football really unites, and if you love it as many Ukrainians do, it is undoubtedly more than just "a game".
Amazing video. This is why football is more than a game. Brings people together on the toughest times
thank you for this video, and R.I.P Frankov, he was the real journalist and many of us in Ukraine loves football besause of his iconic magazine
Once I dreamed that you would make a video about Ukrainian clubs. It's a pity that my dreams came true in this way. Thank you from Luhansk city, which will definitely be liberated from the russians. By the way, Zorya and Dnipro became champions of the USSR! Back then, these clubs had defenders just like Shcherbitsky in Dynamo, who weren't afraid to stand up against Moscow (it cost for them a lot).
Yep, my Dad attended a lot of Dnipro's matches in the 80s and they were quite the powerhouse.
I am Ukrainian and I want to thank the author for this video in which he accurately described the entire situation that was happening, it is very nice to see videos like this in your recommendations, also thank you for your support and attention, it is very important for the Ukrainian people to show the world how the country lives, including not only football , because a similar situation is in other sports and people’s lives, and I, as a fan of the Krivbass team for which I played since childhood, having survived the bankruptcy of our club in 2013, am incredibly glad that the author mentioned this moment in the video, thank you very much from Ukraine ❤️
