“Don’t waste your life stark”. He didn’t.
Who said that?

Yinsen from the first Iron Man movie
Imagine being the only Thanos that loses out of 14 million
To be fair, he lost the one out of 14 million in which Doctor Strange lived to see it. Remember it was said in the Dr. Strange movie that it was impossible to look past your own death with the Time Stone.
Get rekt
@@shadowcatcherfox5186 That's actually an interesting thing to think about. If anything, within those 14 million outcomes, there was likely a good portion of them where they did ultimately win... But since Doctor Strange can't actually confirm if they do because he can't see anything past his death, he treats these uncertainties as the "not-winning" timelines. I also like to think that he most likely just stopped at a timeline where he both lives *and* foresees where the Avengers won against Thanos, being why he only sees "1 out of 14 million outcomes" (since why bother continuing if you know the exact string of events necessary to win?). Of course, it's still pretty impressive that Thanos is powerful enough where it took over several millions of simulated outcomes before they reached a certain winning timeline, meaning that Doctor Strange had to experiment with A LOT of very specific actions and events themselves. He was likely accounting for so many specific phenomenons and actions in those 14 million outcomes, such as the infamous "Rat saving Ant-Man" scenario, Tony's decision to check the validity of time travelling through the Quantum Realm, or even the survival of specific members of the team (which can go into even more complex shit such as the many actions that these people can make within a situation). Heck, maybe some of the outcomes likely had them make it to the part where they were able to dust Thanos... But perhaps there were enough casualties of important team members where Dr Strange still deemed it the "losing timeline". I'm probably going down a huge rabbit hole with this, but these sorts of things are very fun to speculate about given how intricate Dr. Strange's powers and abilities can be!
All the other realities Thaos doesn't always win, it's just the avengers dont win so 1 reality is that Thanos snapped half of all life away, few weeks later the Avengers find him and kill him and 5 years later the rat never activated the quantum tunnel & scott dies in the quantum realm meaning they never discover time travel... another scenario is that Tony was snapped away with the main half and so time travel is never properly created, etc... not all of them Thanos win.
@@shadowcatcherfox5186 Ancient one somehow did it tho. I found a video on it a while ago.
I absolutely love that Steve looked around all happy thinking "we've done it, we've won" and then he looks at Tony's direction and his expression changes instantaneously. the second look at Steve's face was more of a sad but accepting reaction, "I was wrong, he was the guy who'd make the sacrifice play"
It looks like he was looking at Thanos. Cap and Thanos were the leaders of their respective sides so they get a couple of stare offs. Cap even though he was trying to kill Thanos was not above pitying him.
And he did that in the first and last avengers movie
@@MrKingYuji it actually took me a while to decipher that expression. Not victory, not gloating, not even happiness, but pity. For Thanos!

Same! I’m obsessed with that subtle small gesture that helps to save the entire universe
And how his finger tremors because he lost never got his hands fixed
For me the best part of the whole movie. The whole build up to the one and only chance of winning was done amazingly with Strange's finger.
Thank you for noticing

Revisiting this, it's just occured to me. The nanomachines respond to Tony's mind to create the shapes he wants, but he still probably had to blueprint all the shapes his suit could take. If that's the case, it means he put the gauntlet schematics into his suit knowing that there was a possibility he'd have to use the stones. Not only was he the one to make the sacrafice play, there's a decent chance he went into this EXPECTING to make the sacrafice play.
The scene where he discovers and maps out time travel hints that he knew that he would die trying to help everyone He knew that one of the 14 million possibilities was his death on the one where they succeeded I think he started to realize that when Dr Strange Gave up the time stone to save Tony

@@heyykeith You should take your own advice Kind regards, Someone that’s not an asshole
Well he was a genius and Strange did it pretty much obvious when he exchange his life for the time stone.
@@SplicerOtter wholeheartedly agree - and I think Dr. Strange knew he could safely share these nuanced tells in a way only Tony would pick up on and understand without altering what could be. There are wordless exchanges between them through glance shots in the films that support and convey this, which benedict and RDJ absolutely nailed together
This is exactly what makes Thanos not only a great villain, but an honorable one at that: accepting defeat and death with dignity instead of with regret. RIP Thanos. You've been a great warrior.
The other dimension Thanos' will appreciate that as they have won and still live to take this compliment.
Thanos murdered half the universe. He was Hitler on a universal scale. He had no honor. He was scum. And he had to be defeated. He lost, and he deserved to lose. And he still trails DC's Anti-Monitor, and it isn't even close.
I love how Thanos doesn't try one last final attack. Instead, he just sits and awaits his fate
I don't understand it and it seems sort of out of character for someone who has been as relentless as he has been. It took well over a full minute after Tony snapped before he even started to dust. That was plenty of time to at least try to get the stones back. Sure, he might've failed at the attempt, but he also might have succeeded...I mean, Tony was obviously in no shape to resist him at that point and nobody else was in his immediate path.
@@Tantalus010 it was too late at that point. Thanos would've vanished before he could have even made the snap. He accepted his fate.
Perhaps he was like Peter Parker? He might not feeling well for seconds before he vanished so he couldn't move normally.

And to think, the initial line was improvised on set. But for this line, RDJ had to be convinced to come back and film it many months after production wrapped.
Book-ended it. Bam!
It's amazing they didn't come up with the "I am Iron Man" line until they were nearly done with post-production. So perfect and such a great capstone to a character arc. Credits to the creative team for realizing this was the right way to finish the storyline.
It fits perfectly, for sure. But I'd be interested to know what some of the alternatives were.
If I'm right it was RDJ and there was no alternative just a snap
@@maverickmic there was an interview where the producers/Russo Bros/writers (I don't know which one of them) said that RDJ was going to drop the F bomb before the snap, but they changed it to I Am iron Man because that line closes his entire legacy in the MCU.
It's really quite perfect given how it's the moment his arc as a superhero really began. The first moment was sort of a "here am I. Send me." moment. And this last one is a sort of "here I am. Here I shall remain." sort of going from sacrificing personal physical freedom for greater moral freedom and serving his kind, to seizing his freedom to do what must be done, but not subserviantly, rather defiantly. It's more like a Duncan moment from Dune. Heroic last stand taking the enemy with him. He goes from morally grey, getting off on playing God and turning a blind eye to aiding and abetting criminals with his weapons programs, to taking the ultimate high road in dying for his beliefs. Quite nice. Makes the line pretty perfect yeah. Book ending

Also, Tony's story arc over the entire Infinity Saga just can't be beat. Absolutely incredible, damn near perfect character development.
Most of the old movies "sucked" as much as the new ones do. Infinity War and Endgame are awesome movies but people need to stop pretending that any non phase-ending movie (like Ironman, Thor, Captain America etc.) was on par with IW or Endgame .
That's because there's little to no investment in it now. The MCU at this point is all about comic cameos and action set pieces. Storytelling has gone out the window.....

Thanos believed in destiny. Even when he saw himself getting killed he simply accepted it as something that was meant to happen.
They did this movie Thanos really well. They made him way more relatable to people than the original comic book one. But the comic version's come a long way and had a ton of character development and inner reflection over the decades in his various story arcs.

He was a wanker. Simple.
I hear people say that Thanos didn't seem mournful or sad for his defeat, but I think my favorite part about this is that he is. He doesn't cry out or say anything, but you can clearly see the look of devastation on his face as his entire army disappears. I like it even more since Thanos thought he was doing the right thing, and now that he's lost he is sure that the universe will suffer because of it.
Not everyone verbalizes the crap out of their feelings at all times. Not everyone expresses themselves in the same way a whiny child would, and I would expect nothing of that sort from Thanos. He's too mature for that shit. He took the loss like a Titan as we all should.
Even better that Tony got exactly what he wanted when he snapped his fingers... For Thanos to exist long enough to process his utter defeat.
I think he was definitely mourning. And he was doing exactly what he said he would do at the end of it all - he was watching the sun rise on a grateful universe; just not one that was grateful for what he did.
Those are the kinds of villains I hate the most. They believe that every action is justified, but they're not.

he was probably in shock
@vaLy No, he had not. Tony literally had to sit there for a few seconds and let the stones be locked in place. And when it was time to snap he just did not. You only assume an obviously exhausted Tony could react in time to an attack of Thanos. And no, he had not. You have lost when it happens. There was not even someone to prptect him from behind. If one of Thanos' goon could have shot him it would also have been over. There are many possibilities. He was just written to not be attacked. That is all.

Yinsen, the real hero. imagine without him that day
@@Robkinggozer I've seen your comment twice, your not funny
The reason Dr. Strange couldn't tell Tony what would happen was because had her known, he would have been looking some some clever way out and missed the one chance he would get.
Capt was always knocking Tony for that, constantly looking for an easy way out in the first avengers film.
@@Iron_Road which annoyed me since tony took a missile into Space without bay hesitation and I rewatched Aou and he was also willing to die in the end for the people
@@shataysianelson9414 well depends on the way you look at it. Imagine being Cap that fought and, survived the most ferocious fighting the world had never seen before. You had to face down Red Skull, down the super bomb heading to New York, full well knowing you were going to die. But then to be brought into a new world because you were frozen in time to work with a former weapons dealer, who only found new principles because they discovered to their disgust misuse of their tools that they never intended for but should have saw coming and, it took them being a POW to discover, who is also a lot more inexperienced than you only to be lectured to why didn't you just "cut the wire" as Tony said in the first Avengers. For a majority of Cap's situations and, experiences there was no "wire" to cut. Cap went down knowing he was going to die (so he thought) Not saying Tony didn't lay down his life, he did. But every Avenger was doing that and, all had a chance to survive. Even in the first one with a nuclear warhead on his back Tony knew where to run too after he pushed it up into the portal. That's Cap's point and, problem with Tony. Is that his view of war and, sacrifice is so linear and, not abstract enough to invision being the canary in the coal mine, being the sacrifical lamb, letting your platoon buddies crawl over you on a trip wire so they can live to fight another day while you take the hit. That's Cap's point. That's why Dr. Strange said if he told Tony what he needed to do in End Game to win, they wouldn't win. Because in times where you need to make sacrificial plays, you don't have enough time to stop and think about cutting the wire.
1
@@shataysianelson9414 I think that shows that Steve was right and also wrong. Tony WAS always trying to find the clever way to avoid the hard choices, but he also was willing to throw himself on the grenade when there was no time for that. In all of the Avengers movies he didn't have time to come up with the cleverest way to "cut the wire" so he made the sacrifice play instead.

I'll never forget watching this with my son and theaters as soon as we heard "I am Iron Man". He grabbed my arm and he asked "are you ok Dad?" Long story short, Iron Man has been my favorite hero as a kid way before his movie debut. Yesterday my son who is now 13 told me I look like Iron Man with my haircut and goatee and that personality wise I was like a real Iron Man , but later that night we had a heart to heart and he embraced me and told me thank you because he needed to hear what was said. As I told him goodnight and that I love him, he said "Dad I hope you know you're a real life Tony Stark" If only he knew how much I needed to hear that. I hope one day I'll be worthy enough to make a sacrifice for someone in need, no matter how small or big the cost is.

The fact that there’s no music when Thanos withers away, is such a great touch. It truly goes to show how terrifying Thanos really was.
ok
no offense but there was music, there was a low note band of cellos in the background and second of all it wasn't showing how terrifying he is, it was to show a piece of his character deeper than his violent side.

Thanos was a murderous thug with no honor. Just another fascist.
When he wins, he sits facing the sunset (and says that’s what he wants to do beforehand). When he loses, he’s facing away from it.
The only one that could beat Thanos with his Natural ability. Tony remembers trying to get the Gauntlet but they weren't strong enough but if he gets into a struggle for it again then his nanotechnology would do the rest. I’m proud to say that Iron Man was and still is my favourite marvel character even before endgame happened, honestly it was the saddest thing for me. I love you 3000 tony. Thanks so much Robert Downey Jr
The best part for me was how Thanos accepted his defeat like a man. No "I'll get you next time" or the classic "NOOOO!". He simply accepted his fate and faced it with dignity.
This scene hits harder than it did when I first saw it in the theaters with my dad. My dad always told me his favorite superhero was Iron man, and I would argue back that Spider-Man is a better hero. We’d go back and forth with that debate. My dad honestly looked like Tony Stark too, so I guess that’s another reason this scene hits hard. My dad passed away back in February at 47 years old. I keep picturing my father when I see this, because, I have a lot of favorite superheroes, and Spider-Man has always been at the top, with Iron man being close to the top. But my dad was the only person in my real life who I saw as my superhero. During his funeral, I even read out the lyrics of a song that always made me and him cry when we heard it, and that was “not all hero’s wear capes” by Owl City. Because like it said in the song “my dads a hero to me.”
this is beautiful in a sad way, rest in peace ♡
Iron Man is also my dad's favourite superhero, he watched this movie 5 times. When i told him to rate the movie out of 100, he told me "3000"
Your dad was Ironman, you were his Spiderman. I'll always think of your comment when I see Stark hug Parker.
Super sorry about your loss😔hope your doing well now🙏🏾
@@mpirevideosyt3462 I’m doing fine. I do have moments where I need to let out my sadness, just because there are a lot of things in life that make me think about him. But I’m still doing a lot better than I was when it happened.
I love the poetry of Thanos's death. In Infinity Wars, when Thanos won, he sat down a looked and stared at the sunset, knowing he was inevitable. In Endgame, when Thanos lost, he turned away from the sunrise and sat down looking at the ground, knowing his death is inevitable.
