  • Guys, I think there was an error when explaining the 1Gb/2/3/4/5gb options on Linux. My understanding is that it is the actual split between RAM and VRAM assignation. So with 1Gb 7 went to RAM and 1gb to VRAM. I normally use the 3Gb one which is a nice balance.

    • I agree maybe not enough being ram assigned to console was causing the issues but then again maybe not. The game itself is running within Linux not "on console" side .so you probably would want the ram for the Linux OS because the games is running within the OS. It depends on where the game is sitting in memory hard to say without having this or studying, I would say it's on OS though if guessing.

  • The Bloodborne 60fps patch is indeed an absolutely insane project that Lance McDonald put a TON of work into. It doesn't JUST enable 60fps either, it also fixes the frame timing which is notoriously awful in the original version of the game. Lance essentially rewrote large portions of the game in order to make it all work. He worked on the patch for a LONG time and kept releasing updates before finally fully releasing it, after extensive testing on all versions of the game. He's also just extremely experienced with this sort of stuff too, he's also the guy who found the absurdly obscure "final secret" in Nier Automata years after it released when he found some unusual unused code while digging around in the game code.

For instance now a Wii costs next to nothing, and is probably the most convenient way to play Gamecube Games (and much more) with good RGB output with the cheap official cable, or HDMI with a cheaper (than GC) adapter. PLUS for us Europeans, we have access to higher framerates, or better resolution depending on the version of the game played. Same for the OG Xbox ! I can't wait to see what's next, particularly with single + Multi games that have so much content online (Forza Horizon 4 ?) that will die when the official servers die.

  • The Xbox One and the Xbox Series consoles remain the only major consoles in history that have yet to be jailbroken, according to MVG, due in no small part to Microsoft allowing homebrew to run on their consoles without the need to jailbreak them, starting with the Xbox One (even the "VCR" version). It's genius to consider social engineering as an important part of security. The more you let people do with their devices without jailbreaking, the less effort will be put into jailbreaking them people! Learn this lesson!

  • And the thing is, the Steam Deck is going to be like this out-of-the-box. PC-like mods and running emulators and everything, without needing to hack anything, as it's meant to be a "portable PC" out-of-the-box and SteamOS 3.0 is Linux already. Funny thing is, I reckon the Steam Deck will suffer LESS privateering than the locked-down consoles, exactly because you can mod games and do other interesting stuff, without needing to hack the system and the games. So, generally, leave Steam's DRM in place, because you don't need to subvert it to get mods and emulators and dev menus working (as long as the game itself plays ball). Therefore, you can leave the DRM alone, if it's not getting in your way to do interesting stuff with your system and, without that motivation, folks will generally not bother. Because, you know, hacking stuff is an effort - and if you don't have to make that effort, then you just won't.

    @klaxoncow@klaxoncow2 жыл бұрын
    • right. Why bother going through so much effort to essentially try to turn your PS4 into something it's not, when there are so many options that perform this exact function. This is why consoles died and essentially became PCs with less customizability and included gamepads. At the end of the day, everyone is going to want to have a PC or mini PC whether they like arriving at this conclusion or not. I saw another video about the latest PS2 SD card mod (like GD emu for Dreamcast). It's like sure, you can give your PS2 a hard drive and make it like a PC....or you could just leave it as a PS2, as it was intended, and use your 3 year old Android phone to do the same thing
