Kobe Bryant Full Series Highlights
2002 NBA Playoffs
Western Conference Finals
LA Lakers vs Sacramento Kings
- 27.1 ppg, 6.3r, 3.9a, 1.4s and 1.1b
Led by Chris Webber and 1st-year King Mike Bibby, Sacramento appeared ready to dethrone Shaq & Kobe’s dynasty-in-the-making Lakers. LA had previously defeated the Kings 3-2 in the 2000 WC First Round, and swept them in the Conference Semifinals of 2001. After a NBA-best 61 win season, the ‘02 Kings seemed to be the team with the most realistic chance of beating the Lakers.
The Pacific Division Rivals battled in an absurdly competitive, intense, hard fought, and somewhat controversial 7 game series. Besides game 3, each matchup was decided by less than 8 points. This included games 4 and 5 with 1 point margins by way of game winners.
While Kobe’s numbers were good, not great, he played his tail off logging 44 minutes/game. His situational play in the 4th quarter of games 1, 4 and 7 proved to be vital, as the 23 year old consistently made plays down the stretch. The must win games 6 and 7 prompted Kobe to put up back-to-back 30p, 10r, 5a outings.

  • Still blows my mind that people still think there is any nba players more skilled than Kobe or Jordan . Open your eyes , Kobe had everything in his arsenal and could play defense exceptionally well . I mean 12x all defensive team , scoring titles , clutch shots , mentality, footwork , attention to detail , fadaways anywhere on the court , the ability to dominant every one in the NBA for year after year , playing through broken fingers on his shooting hand and still dropped 40 plus and won a ring but that’s neither here nor there … two free throws on a torn Achilles …. Shooting left handed because he tore his rotator cuff in his arm …. I mean there’s never been anyone like Kobe in the history of the NBA besides Jordan . We miss you Kobe , and miss watching you play man

No disrespect to T-Mac, Vince, AI, and other elite guards. But honestly, As a laker fan, in my personal lifetime, despite the bad refs, never have i watched a more grinding, every point matter, small margin of error, type series ever!!! Game 4 was the only game that had me worried, down 24. Momentum on they side. But poise, experience, and a TEAM effort gets you far. Just a great time to be a Laker fan #WATTBA

I’m saying the 2001 playoffs, the year before, where he demolished the series leading up to the finals, top notch defense in the West, mainly the Spurs, who were the #1 defense in the NBA that year, made a joke out of their defense and of course the Kings and Blazers. 2001, 2002 playoffs catapulted him in a different class from the other elite perimeter players.

  • Kobe had an excellent series you can see his hustle and intensity were so much more valuable than his considerable numbers And I'll take on King fans here Kobe gets hits a lot in this series where there are no calls Yes G6 refs gave the game to Lakers, that elbow on Bibby was bad an should have been an offensive foul but the foul wasn't actually called on Bibby like some people think it was, there was an intentional foul by Christie afterwards As bad as G6, Kings were gifted G5. Shaq picked up a lot of ticky tack/phantom fouls and fouled out, Bobby Jackson gets away with yanking on Kobe's jersey at the end which cause him to fumble the ball and not get as clean of a look off on a game winner attempt At end of G7 regulation when Shaq misses his shot Kobe gets a tip attempt that misses you can't see it here but if you watch the full game they show a replay where Kobe clearly gets hit on the arm by Turkoglu very forgotten play Anyways Kobe was pretty huge in G7 draws two fouls in the final minute of regulation to give the Lakers a 1 pt lead twice (and both of those were clear as day fouls nothing like the calls in G6), also plays excellent defense on Bibby in OT. Goes as a very under the radar great performance

    • Oh yeh! Kobe and M.J. are the GOAT. They will be on GOAT MOUNTAIN and of course Shaq as well as Lebron James. But Kobe is right in the center of it all. I'm loving it! Just loving it! Wish he was here. We all know how Kobe feels when it comes to whose 1st., 2rd., and so on, he never included himself. Why? Because everything that we see him do, he said and I quote, "everything that I do from Michael, he's my mentor." unquote. Kobe is much too modest to take credit for himself the way he played his game, he always gave credit to Michael, he loved Michael so much, and always wanted to be like him until he didn't know or realize where Michael mentoring stop and his own training of himself began. Kobe was always gifted, and talented. He took what Michael taught him and improved upon it, he took it to the never level and that's beyond what Michael has ever done on the court. Kobe did the things he dreamed of doing on the court, he challenged every player to be better and do better. He pushed himself always in every game and he gave it his all. He gave more to the world of sport than any player ever had and that includes M.J. Yes, Kobe is the GOAT, he's the greatest player that I have ever seen play the game. No one else will ever do all the things Kobe and Michael have done on the court, and don't try to tell me, Lebron James. Lebron James is no match for either one of them. Please, there is just no comparison. This series is by far the best series ever, I rather watch Kobe any day than watch the games they got going on now. Please spare me the argument, it will always be Kobe's hand down. Now stick a fork in it.

He not only played with the iq , defense , midrange, 3 point , driving , intensity grit that he already played with but it was magnified as he was playing more confident than ever. He knew in every series that not one defender could stop him it didnt matter who it was. Leg sleeve kobe was a mf nightmare

  • @domcarter It's the resistance, relentless that drove kobe and separated him from his peers, moves like 23:50-23:56, the patience and IQ 26:50-27:00 are a prime example of his skill level at 23 that was ahead of his time. Another interesting underrated part of kobs game was his push floaters in HEAVY traffic. You should detail those @domcarter 🤷‍♂️

    • Hey Michael Terrell, you're absolutely right, Kobe played while sick and so did M.J. The only time Kobe did not play was because of major injuries, other wise he played. He took his game seriously and he loved the fans, he was always concern about the fan and the parent who paid their hard earned money to come to see him play and he didn't want to not be there playing or sitting in street clothes chilling with his peers while the little kid was disappointed because he wasn't playing. Now Kobe cared about the fans and his game. Whatever he could do to help especially the children he would do, and he knew that it was his responsibility to make sure that he was able to play. Kobe tired and succeeds in being there for his fans. They just need to recognize Kobe and give credit where credit is due. There is no comparison, absolutely no way King James will ever touch Kobe, he's in a league all by himself. Yes, you are right, Bron can't touch him. I'm loving it!

  • Nobody can hold candlelight to Kobe, Shaq, and the Lakers. They are taking no prisoners on this court. I just love it, even more, when Kobe has the ball. They are a great team, and nobody can beat them especially when Kobe is playing. Thank Dom Carter for continuing to post these Kobie's babies. Thank you, we love it.

  • When I watch this I can't help but think KB8 had even more in his bag than MJ and was more fun to watch. Same indomitable winning spirit. Look at that reaction when Horry hit the buzzer beater. Got emotional watching it. We were so blessed to get to watch him ball. I actually watch more Kobe clips than of MJ so he probably is my favorite player of all time.
